Bleacher Report grades the draftees. Trautman gets an A- in the writeup. A snippet:
Adam Trautman, TE, Dayton
Strengths: Athleticism, receiving skills
Weaknesses: Level-of-competition concerns
Trautman is a lot like Dallas Goedert, the South Dakota State tight end who the Eagles drafted in the second round in 2018. ... Spoke to Trautman extensively at the Senior Bowl. (Like Goedert, he’s an) engaging, likeable dude with the temperament to thrive. ... Trautman just landed in one of the best offensive environments in the NFL. The Saints traded up to add Trautman and Zack Baun today. Those are the kind of aggressive moves that have kept them in Super Bowl contention throughout Drew Brees’ late career.
Grade: A-

Retire his number !!
Seriously, what a great accomplishment for Adam, and now a proud member of a limited number of Flyers who were drafted by the NFL, and in his case a really good chance he will stick and serve up a dose of publicity for the U every Sunday. If and when the football world normalizes we will have a great talent to root for. The Flyers are on the current NFL map.
Thanks Adam for the memories, and the beginning of great career.

So I am watching the NFL draft late last night. The third round is going on and on - ESPN makes everything take 5 minutes when 30 seconds would do - and no Trautman. ESPN keeps showing the graphic he is the top available player. Now we are down to the last 2 picks of the third round. Looks kind of bleak for Adam to go in this round. The Vikings are on the clock. But wait, the Vikings just traded their pick to the Saints. My very first thought - no way anybody would trade up for a non-scholarship tight end - so no Trautman on this pick. And then Goodell announces Trautman as the Saints pick. Today, I see that the Saints traded their 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th round picks (every pick that they have left in this year's draft) to the Vikings just to pick Trautman! Shows what I know.

Hey, guys, serious question . . . how many draftees are Electrical Engineering graduates? My guess is . . . . maybe . . . one? I have been a Giants fan for 65 years. If he makes the team, my new team is the Saints.

I now have 2 more reasons to hate the Patriots (as if I needed any more). They took TE Devin Asiasi from UCLA at #91 overall when I was sure they would take Trautman. Then, for good measure, they selected TE Dalton Keene from Va Tech at #101. And they traded up to get both of them. CBS, in particular, skewered New England for the Asiasi pick giving it a C- and mentioning Trautman, the TE at FAU, and the TE at Washington being much better options. CBS gave the Keene pick a C+. Packers missed out as well by picking the TE out of UC at #94 overall.
New Orleans showed what they thought of Trautman by trading up for him AND giving all 4 of their late-round picks to Minnesota in order to do it. He's in a great situation catching passes from Drew Brees. Can't wait to watch him in action!

Trautman gives the Saints a lot of options. He is big, fast, agile and smart. And having started out as a quarterback I wouldn't be surprised to see some sort of trick play setup involving him throwing a pass. Plus, I bet he would be a great addition to any special teams until he takes over the starting TE position.
Go Flying Squirrel. I bet his mates will call him Rocky. The UD "Obi" of the gridiron.

Agreed. Who would you rather be catching passes from-Drew Brees or Jared Stidham? Adam is in a very good situation.

Trautman is a UD EE grad (I think we should refer to him as "UDEE20".) The Pats like their tight ends dumb or psychotic.

I had read one of the reasons the Saints traded the four picks is because they were already at a high roster count and didn't want to overload the roster

I don't buy that at all. They traded the 4 picks because they valued Adam and thought somebody would take him before they can. With the attrition rate of football, the last thing you do is burn mid round draft picks because you fear having too many bodies on the roster when camp opens up.

No such thing. Some NFL teams will end up with 11 picks and still sign free agents. I am sure the Saints will sign free agents.

My apologies.. I am not denying that the Saints are excited, as am I, about landing Trautman and they moved up with the four picks to get him. I just happened to read somewhere about the roster count and I was passing that on.

Teams are allowed 90 players for pre-season. The NFL recently bumped up rosters for the season by two, to 55, and expanded the practice squad to 14.

Trautman has had tons of good publicity by New Orleans media outlets. I won’t post them here, but I will note he signed a four-year contract with the Saints worth about $4.5 million. Not a bad starting salary for a UD grad plopped into his first post-campus job.

Only Rookie dressed for the opener
It seems that Adam was the only rookie to be dressed for yesterday's game.
I didn't see the game or his name in the box score.

Trautman’s first catch goes for 17 yards and a first down. Not too shabby. Sparked some Dayton commentary.

Trautman continues to impress. He’s been targeted three times this season and made all three catches, racking up 34 yards and two first downs. He also put down a nice block to spring Saints running back Kamara for a long run. Here’s a snippet from game coverage on NOLA.com:
“Rookie tight end Adam Trautman saw elevated usage on Sunday, with some of that being due to how veteran tight end Jared Cook left the game in the third quarter. Trautman was on the field for 32 plays, or 52% of the Saints' offensive snaps. Comparatively, Trautman was in on seven plays in Week 1 and eight plays in Week 2. Trautman caught two passes for 17 yards. He reeled in a 7-yard reception from Brees in the second quarter and a 10-yard pass from Brees in the final drive of the game.”
And this from CBS Sports:
“Trautman caught both of his targets for 17 yards in the Saints' 37-30 loss to the Packers on Sunday. Trautman recorded the first multi-catch game of his career. Jared Cook left this one early, as he was seen limping to the locker room in the second half. If he's limited or forced to miss time, Trautman should see his role increase moving forward.”

This was retweeted by Lary Hangsen this morning
"Saints TE coach Dan Campbell says on WWL that he trusted rookie Adam Trautman in that elevated role yesterday after Jared Cook went down.
"I didn't hesitate to put him into that role. ... I think that says a lot about that kid."
