This is the type of game Xavier historically wins and Dayton loses.
Let's hope tonight is the start of the reverse of the last 30 years ...

Would this have been the year that we won at XU?
We have a strong team, they are not as good as us. Guess we will never know.

X down 15 with < 3 mins to play. If I knew how to post pics, I do a "Separated at Birth" with the X roster on one side and a piece of toast on the other.

We have now officially passed Xavier as a program. Right? We're in the field of 64 and they are not.

Were any UD fans in the house chanting "You can't win here!" at the end? Was streaming the video on my laptop & watching the local news on TV - couldn't hear much of the game audio.

X loses at Dayton even when they are afraid to play us. It must be their destiny. Were those three heckling students the cause of all of this?

We have at least drawn even, and if this trend continues for the next year or 2, then IMHO we will have officially passed them.

I was not a fan of the NCSU offense. Don't get nearly enough ball and player movement to break down the SLU defense.

SLU is not breaking down much of anybody lately. I hope they can get their act together and do the A10 proud.

IMO SLUs biggest issue is getting Jett and Evans to 100 percent. Probably a benefit to lose early in the A10 tourney

Turns out Coach K(nucklehead) was right about NCSt belonging in the field. He was just wrong about which conference was overrated. Either that, or he thought X was still in the A10!
And as far as Thursday is concerned...GO SLU!!!

Agreed Sea Bass. Was talking to my old man and mentioned that exact point. SLU needed to get healthy and I'm sure the week off will help them out a bit. I think SLU's physicality (especially the guards) will be an advantage for SLU. Shoukd be a good one.

The entire 2nd half vs St Bona Jett looked like every step was painful and he looked spent. not sure how he kept making plays. And then when he walked up into the stands after the game it looked like he could barely walk. I hope the week off served him well.

Winning a game doesn't prove you belong in the field. Going to the Final 4 doesn't even prove you belong in the field. Being in the field should be based on merit, not potential.

Agree. And simply beating X certainly doesn't prove you belong in the field. Several teams that didn't make the field could have beaten X.

There simply is no need what so ever in posting junk like we have passed X as a program as witnessed by there inclusion in the B-East and UD be excluded. The Xavier program has far exceed ours the past 25 years. Putting untrue and statements that cause ill will only serves to show our ignorance and insight there fan base even further Accept what we are and be classy arrogance makes us all look stupid and really uniformed even if you are saying it tongue in cheek.

Had to resurrect this thread b/c there are only 2 A10 teams left in The Dance, and SLU is getting its brains beat against Louisville right now. Partially b/c they're not playing well, but partially b/c they can't buy a call against the Cards. Hancock reaches-in against Loe and gets called for the foul, but since Loe stands-up and catches Hancock with an inadvertent elbow to the head on the way up, they whistle Loe for a Flagrant 1 and the Cards get 2 shots & the ball. The Cards play sensitivity trainer D (touchy, feely) and hardly ever get called for it.
And now Bonner is calling for another one against Evans when Harrell nearly flattened him and Evans raised his arm & elbow to defend himself. What a crock!

That is a bit of a over statement, "brains beat out". It is 14-9 with some very good D but horrendous shooting. so far the worst game in memory.

Flyer foes in secondary tournaments
Tonight's NIT matchup features two teams that just missed the NCAA cut line:
Cal (21-13) at SMU (25-9), with the winner advancing to the NIT Final Four at Madison Square Gardens
(this could be Lunardi vs Dance Card - as Lunardi had SMU in the field of 68 while Cal was Dance Card's only miss)
Also tonight, Flyer foe Illinois State (18-15) plays at Sienna in the CBI tournament semifinal, and tomorrow night Murray State (20-11) hosts Towson (15-10) in a CIT quarterfinal contest.

The NIT final is tonight, SMU vs. Minnesota.
Wow, I didn't realize that 0 A10 teams got a bid this year, I thought that rpi #75 Richmond would have at least got in.

there were a bunch of lower level conference teams that didn't win their conference tournament, which meant they got an auto-invite to the NIT, which limited the chances for a team like Richmond. Then on top of that, they lost their best player for the season near the middle-end of the season, which means they were trending down, so if you're going to choose an at large, you'd prefer on that has a chance to advance (if they truely care about choosing the best teams w/n their limitations and not just ticket sales)

What's up with tonight's 2 semifinal games not being on CBS?
I don't understand why these games are on TBS, TNT, and TRUTV.
This reminds me of how I don't like Monday Night Football being on ESPN now, keep this stuff on the regular broadcast networks and off of cable.

They are using all four networks so every NCAA game can be shown in its entirety. It's great. No cutting away from your favorite game to show another one. You should like it. A few years ago they cut away from the OU/Florida game when OU fell behind by 17 or 18 points early in the second half. When they finally returned to the game, OU was down by only 5 with 4 or 5 minutes left. We missed the entire comeback. The contract gives these semi's to TBS. In a year or two I believe the finals are on TBS.

I get that, but now there are no games to cut away too they are only playing one at a time so why put it on cable?

TBS/TNT apparently insisted they get some of the "good" games. It's in the contract.

I don't understand why these games are on TBS, TNT, and TRUTV.
This reminds me of how I don't like Monday Night Football being on ESPN now, keep this stuff on the regular broadcast networks and off of cable.

What is interesting about having the games on 3 channels at one time is that each school has its own feed. I wonder how they do the ratings since it is split across three channels.

Turner will report the ratings for all 3 networks as a cumulative number to advertisers as their spots are running simultaneously on all of 'em.
Airing the games on all 3 is an attempt to overcome the fact that they are not available on free TV.

So, to use their logic, they should put them on 15 different channels that you can only get if you buy the top-of-the-line cable/dish/digital TV package. Yeah, that makes sense!

The 3 channels : National Broadcast , the other 2 were from the 2 teams playing during that time. So if we got to the Final 4, maybe Larry and Bucky would be heard on TV

I switched back and forth between all the team casts, I really loved the team casts.
I would have put the TBS non-team cast on CBS, and left the team casts on truTV and TNT.
I loved listening to former Wildcat Rex Chapman on UK's team cast, he was very pro-UK, but that was his job, so I was ok with it: "eat glass Wildcats, eat glass!!!...he's got soft paws, soft paws!!!...that was a pure NBA move right there by Randle!!!...Randle's a beast!!!"

John Bedell (WHIO-TV) said on twitter that CBS had contacted WHIO-TV and if UD would have beat Florida, it would have been Mike Hartsock and Derrick Dukes doing the Team Broadcast on TNT for UD. John Bedell was to be the sideline reporter.

John doesn't strike me as your typical sideline bimbo babe.

Did anyone else spend the entire Florida-UConn thinking we would have beaten both of those teams had they played like that against UD?
Florida's perimeter shooting goes south one game late......

I certainly wish we faced that florida team last week! However, i will give UConn some credit for that (and I am no fan of UConn). They played terrific basketball the last 30 minutes.

It was going to take a near perfect UD game and a bad Florida game for UD to beat Florida. UConn got the bad Florida game. But Boatright and Napier pressure on the ball created a lot of that bad game. Not sure UD could have done that.

I hated the teamcasts. They were just too biased (particularly the UConn teamcast with Marshall). By far the best of the four was the Wisconsin teamcast - focussed on Wisconsin, but far more objective and balanced.
The TBS deal requires the Saturday games all on cable. If they aren't, there's fewer dollars.

Fanatic: I was thinking the same thing. I remarked to a friend of mine that Wilbekin was the best player we faced all year long...he agreed. Then the guy goes out and shoots 2-9 for the U Conn game. He was brick city, forced a lot of shots, and looked puzzled running the point. He was the difference in the Flyers' game and then stunk up North Texas!!!

As I've said in the past, there is always someone who says "I don't care about other teams, as long as the Flyers win things will take care of themselves". For starters, you are correct, should UD go undefeated this season, they'll findthemselves singing "one shinning moment" however I assume they'll need some help along the way if they hope to make the tournament, so take your belly aching to another thread
Hopefully we can get several people updating this thing daily so we can have a better idea of whom to keep an eye on outside of the men in Red & Blue.
Go Flyers!

Medford - thanks for starting this thread.
It was a lot of fun (mostly) watching the seasons of Dayton's ooc opponents play out . . . what looked like a bunch of cupcakes pre-season turned out to be some pretty competitive teams.
Teams that turned out to be solid: Iona, Murray State, IPFW (almost too solid), and Winthrop.
Teams that coulda, shoulda: Georgia Tech, USC.
About as expected: the Maui field, St. Francis (NY), Illinois State, and Ole Miss.
Teams that were just dogs: St Francis (PA), Central Michigan, and Delaware State.
With the overall success of the A-10 vis-a-vis the NBE - and a Flyer team that got stronger down the stretch - the 2013-14 season was a mighty fine ride.
