That ws Gtown's 11th loss. They are 6-8, 15-11. Dance Card had them 7 below the bubble burst line BEFORE last night's game.

No, they were from CBS Sports, I think. But the Fox people are touting as many NBE teams as possible.

Its kind of hard to call a team on the bubble, and NCAA tournament team when they look like anything but an NCAA tournament team during the game your broadcasting. Based upon the Dayton game the night before, their NCAA projection production on CBS Sports is pretty **** poor. They were talking about St Joes, and had a screen shot of their accompishments, which included a win over UMass and VCU (I think), as well as Dayton, then went on to list them as 0-whatever vs the RPI top 50. The announcers even mentioned both things on his graphic, the light bulb never went on that both couldn't be correct. OK, one team doesn't make a trend, but they proceeded to do the same thing with Richmond and I believe Dayton as well. As far as NCAA analysis neither the production crew nor the announcers had much of a clue.

Friday, Feb 21 . . .
In the lone A-10 game on tap tonight, U-Mass (21-5) with a comeback win at home over VCU (20-7), 80-75.
Out of conference opponent Iona (18-8) with a road win at Rider (13-13), 80-77. Iona remains two games up on Quinnipiac (18-8) in the MAAC, but probably must win the auto-bid to dance.
Two teams well to the far side of the bubble are officially toast after losing tonight:
Manhattan (20-7) lost at Sienna (12-16), 63-67.
Mercer (21-7) fell flat at Florida Gulf Coast (18-10), 61-75.
Harvard (21-4) maintained a slight bubble glow with an 83-63 win at Penn (6-16), but most likely must beat Ivy League co-leader Yale (14-9) March 7 for the league title and automatic bid.

Watched the UMass win over VCU. They looked quick, athletic and fearless. What has me most concerned is Chaz Williams with his dribble penetration, a long-standing problem for the Flyers. He did have 5 turnovers, but the 5-9 guard can get to the hoop. Let's hope for a 7-game winning streak to take some momentum into the UMass game.

Xavier is getting their doors blown off by Georgetown in the first half on FS1. Unfortunately, we probably need X to pull this one out. This will give Georgetown another solid win.

Dont get me started on Gtown again. A win today gets the to 16- 11, 7-8. If anything a loss by X put them closer to the bibble bursting line.

Actually, the announcers indicated that x really needs this game. They don't have that great a resume and 3 of their last 4 are on the road. They look horrible.

After today X has St. John and Seton Hall away and Creighton and Nova at home. could be a rough ride, or a path to the Dance, depending on how things go.

So, what is our rooting preference for the Lasalle Richmond game? Lasalle to win to get us a better chance of moving up in the standings...or...Richmond to win and keep their rpi a little higher as the UD game comes closer?

LaSalle as Richmond is bubble team so we want them to lose and RPI difference won't be much. Richmond loses and we are ahead of them on the bubble.

We should be rooting for LaSalle. St. Joe's is 9-3, even if we beat them Tuesday, odds of us passing them up in the A10 standings is very slim without the tiebreaker. Richmond on the other hand will have the same conference record as us at 7-5 if they lose today, we need to keep pace with them so that when we beat them at the end of the year we make sure we jump ahead of them in the standings to gain as much ground as possible towards that 4th seed. Finishing 5th would be great though, as most are saying the A10 is a 5 bid league, lot of games left to be played though, anything can happen!

Texas A&M choke. 59-57 winning, miss 1-1. Foul with .8 on a made basket. Got lucky Tenn missed the foul shot. Ugh, we need a Tenn loss.

Tenn. loses in OT to Texas A&M like 150 RPI -- now they have 2 bad losses also and a RPI of 58 versus our 53 (and we beat them in like every other category -- but I am sure Joe L. will have them ahead of us on the bubble due to their 1-5 top 50 record (ours 3-5) or their 4-5 51-100 record (ours 4-0) or their 4-8 road/neutral (ours 8-4).

X got a 22 point trouncing by a poor Georgetown squad. " Xavier's Jalen Reynolds helped fuel the run when he blocked a shot by Trawick, but taunted the junior guard and drew a technical foul." Gangstas at work again.

Butler down 13 at half just cut it to 3. This would do major damage to Providence if they lose.

Sunday, Feb 23 action
There were no A-10 games today.
Dayton's non-conference opponents:
Illinois St (15-13) drops into a four way tie for third in the MVC, losing at Northern Iowa (14-14), 59-72.
USC (10-19) owns the PAC-12 cellar - losing their eighth in a row - with a loss at Cal (18-9) 64-77.
Northern Illinois (12-14) falls at Central Michigan (10-16), 67-70.
Iona (19-8) maintains a two game lead in the MAAC with a win at Marist (11-17), 86-67.
A good day for bubble teams - and a bad day for the Flyers . . .
Dance Card rank in parenthesis: (43) Dayton
Washington State (9-16) loses at (42) Oregon (18-8), 53-67.
Purdue (15-19) with a nineteen point loss at (44) Nebraska (16-10), 57-76.
(49) SMU (22-6) upends #22 U-Conn (21-6), 64-55.
Ball State (4-21) falls at (52) Toledo (23-4), 74-85.
(54) Providence (18-10) ekes out an 87-81 win at Butler (12-15).
(68) Florida St (16-11) wins at Pitt (20-7), 71-66.

What Pomeroy Tells Us About the A-10
The top four teams in the A-10 in defense are:
1. SLU
2. VCU
3. GW
4. UMASS
SJU is 4th in offense and 6th in "D". The Flyers are 1st in "O" and 8th in "D". IF UD can tweak the "D" slightly in the road rematch with SJU the Flyers will win the game. Can they do it? I believe they can. Go Flyers!

Slow Monday 2-24-14
No A-10 games tonight.
One Dayton opponent in action: Delaware State (9-18) continues to climb toward respectability under interim coach Keith Walker, winning at home over Morgan State (11-14) 59-56. Since the firing of head coach Greg Jackson (remember the super-slow offense?) on Jan 30 the Hornets are 5-3.
One bubble team on the hardwood: Oklahoma State (18-10) - barely in the Dance Card field - with a home win over TCU (9-19), 76-54.

Its a bubblelicious kind of evening in college hoops, and certainly there are non bigger (at least in the average UD fan's eyes, but probably in many eyes around the nation as well) than Daytons pursuit of victory at the ever flapping hawk on hawk hill.
elsewhere:
Iowa @ Minnesota (+3.5)
Xavier @ St Johns (-6)
KState @ Texas Tech (PK)
Clemson @ Wake Forest (+2.5)
Missouri @ Georgia (-2)
Not only would a UD victory be huge for their resume and conference standing (as well as my heart) but it will give them a chance to jump over a few of those teams playing tonight who may be ahead of UD currently in the minds of a few.

According to some of the crazies on these threads they should just forfeit the rest of the season. This is a perfect example of anything can happen in college b-ball.

The leading scorer for Richmond (18ppg) went down with a knee injury and is out for the year. Another player left the team yesterday.

Richmond's best win since Lindsay went down and Williams left a few weeks ago has been St. Bonnie (at home by 2 points). They also have almost no good non-con wins. They are not an NCAA tournament team...

Of course my post was in jest but a player leaving the team this late in the season (except for family emergencies etc.) is not a good. At least no one has left UD physically; perhaps mentally and emotionally, but we'll see what they bring on Saturday.

Wow, George Mason takes down Richmond at George Mason, 69-60.
And FWIW, it took Mooney 5 years to get Richmond into the dance, and this is his 9th year at Richmond, and he's only been dancing twice at Richmond.
Getting to the dance isn't an easy process...Cronin needed 5 years at UC to dance...Marshall needed 5 years at Wichita St....Majerus needed 5 years at SLU...Kellogg needed 6 years(this is his 6th year at UMass)at UMass...

And they all coach defense. Hard-nosed defense.
Imagine how long it would have taken them if defense was of little concern?

Agree, but you need offense too, otherwise BG would have worked out better.
And I thought this was interesting, SLU didn't make the NIT or NCAA in Majerus' first 4 years at SLU, they made the dance in year 5, but they went significantly backward in his 4th year.
year 3: 23-13(11-5)
year 4: 12-19(6-10)
Was there a significant injury or something during year 4(2010-2011)?

2010-11 was the first year for their core now, Loe, McCall, Evans, and Jett AND was the year that Kwamain Mitchell and Willis Reed got suspended.

Duquesne 71 SLU 64
Looks like the Bills believe their press clippings and forgot to bring the defensive intensity to the game tonight. It happens to the best of them even in the A-10.

I guess a blind squirrel can find an acorn every once in awhile.
Anyone think that:
-the way the Dukes lost to us last Saturday might have pi$$ed them off a bit?
-this makes our victory over the Dukes look just a little bit better?
- SLU's seeding in The Dance just slipped @ 2 spots?
-as far as our chances next Wednesday in St. Louis are concerned, the snowball just started melting at warp speed?
In closing...
WOW!!!

Yes to all of the above! And now Duquesne surprisingly puts themselves at the top of the 4-pack bringing up the rear of the conference. In so doing, they are now in line for the A10 Tournament's 10 seed... And a likely rematch with the 7 seed Flyers in Round 1. Crazy stuff!

Last few games SLU has barely won their games:
At LaSalle won by 2 65-63
Home vs VCU won 64-62
at GMason 89-85
Home vs GW 66-59
Home vs Duq lost 71-64
Winning by the skin of their teeth. They were do. Possibly peaked already.
Can here the talk already " how can a coach fighting for seeding in the NCAA not have his team ready for a lowly Duquesne team"
Even the announcers were asking how Jett and company didn't bring it for tonights game. Poor defense and poor offense. Sound familiar.

Tonight's Upsets

#17 Kentucky loses to Arkansas at Ky.

My anticipation for the A10 tournament is building. It's shaping up to be a good one start to finish. As Fordham continues to slide, the 13 v 12 match-up Mason could end up being the most lopsided game of the tournament. The question being who will end up #12?

In other news Thursday night . . .
All for naught . . . Thunderbirds 72, Bobcats 77.
Southern Utah battled hard, but the team at the bottom of the Dance Card remains winless against division I opponents,
falling at Montana State in overtime.

Maybe, as some suggest, they should try a zone defense so their players can stand around and get some rest on the defensive end.

The two players they lost a few games back are just too much to overcome. Their point guard was crucial to their success, and the other guy, although not a star, was their enforcer in the middle.
Let's hope they don't get hot when they come to the arena.

if things fall right were not out of the hunt for the 4 and 5 either
4 or 5 means we can win 2 times without facing SLU,VCU or SJU

That is correct for the 5 seed, however the 4 would play SLU in game 2

And I hope this one doesn't matter. but tOSU just spit the bit against IU in Bloomington. Granted, IU is still 6-9 in-con (with an RPI in the high 70's), but they're one of those teams that the "powers that be" love to see in the tourney.
On the brighter side, Villanova toasted the Marquette Warr...er...Golden Eagles in Philly today, 73-56, for MU's 12th loss. Granted, it won't hurt MU too much in the RPI (given Nova's resume), but a 17-point loss @ Nova isn't that much better than a 26-point loss @ StJ. Better, yes. THAT MUCH better, no.

Come on, Seton hall is top-150. Plus, they play in the Big East!
Now we have to root for K State, which is always hard to do.

Yeah, a loss on your home court to the #76 team in the RPI (NCSt) should take some wind out of Pitt's sails at this point. And while I'm not ready to count X out yet, they had 2 bad losses in 1 night.
I'd think the Seton Hall result should drop them at least 5-6 points in the RPI - maybe more. And losing The Big Stain means they need to replace almost 11 points and 8 boards a game. At this point in the season, that'll be tough to overcome.

X 44, Flyers 48, Pitt 52.
Objectively better resume than Pitt, BYU, Cal, Tenn, and Minn. Cal, Tenn, and Minnesota hang their hat on 1 big top 25 win. Give the Flyers 8 games versus top 25 teams in the Big 10 like Minn and we will get some big wins! Minn 1-7 versus top 25 ....

A handful of important games coming up Tuesday night:
-Michigan at Illinois (can't let the Illini creep into the discussion)
-Creighton at Georgetown (need the Blue Jays to add another nail to the Hoyas' coffin)
-Iowa State at Baylor (not sure - do we want the Cyclones to knock the #43 Bears down a peg, or do we want Baylor to win as many as possible, to make our loss to them look better?)
-Florida State at Boston College (need the #58 'Noles to stay on the wrong side of the bubble)
-Marquette at Providence (hate to say it, but we might want #69 MU to win this one, to knock the #54 Friars down a few spots)
And of course, the REALLY important game is at 9:00 Wednesday night in St. Louis!

Dance Card had X at 36 and Pitt at 41 before tonight's action. They also had Dayton at 44 with the bubble bursting at 48 or higher (i.e. we were the highest-ranked team in the Last 4 In). Will be interesting to see the effect of tonight's results on those first two rankings.

Marquette knocking off Providence would be huge.
Florida State hosting Syracuse on Sunday really worries me. Syracuse hasn't been playing well lately and their forward Jerami Grant might be out. That's the caliber of win that might punch their ticket
Oregon hosting Arizona is another

Georgia Tech knocks off Syracuse at Syracuse 67- 62. Good to see BG get a big win, and maybe a little boost to our RPI

That was before X's loss to Seton Hall last night. I'm sure they dropped a bit on the Dance card.

The last 30 seconds of BC/FSU and Marquette/Providence demonstrate exactly why Marquette and BC are not anywhere near tournament consideration. BC turns it over, down 2 with 20 seconds left. Marquette, up 1, fouls a 3-point shooter with 30 seconds left and under 4 on the shot clock. Bad teams make bad plays. We cannot count on them to knock people off the bubble. Take care of our own business (opportunities) and we'll be fine.

Flyer foes Tuesday night
Three teams from Dayton's OOC schedule saw action last night:
Georgia Tech (14-16) beats #7 Syracuse (26-4) 67-62.
Why they couldn't knock Florida State off the bubble in their previous game? Who knows . . .
#16 Iowa State (22-7) loses at Baylor (20-10) 61-74. Baylor looking solid.
Toledo (25-5) - a fringe bubble team - wins at hapless Central Michigan (10-19) 73-69.

Sadly, St. Francis (NY) SHOULD HAVE won, but they coughed up a big lead late and fell to Mt. St. Mary's 72-71.
Indiana tied Nebraska up late, but fell down the stretch, 70-60 to give another bubble team a win.
Texas A&M made at least 3 bonehead plays down the stretch, coughing up a 3 point lead in the final minute to lose @ Mizzou 57-56. That loss would've killed Mizzou's at large hopes, but TAMU does what they've done all year and fails.
Stanford loses a bubble game at home to Colorado by 3, 59-56.
Cal looked awful at home, losing to Utah 63-59.

I am sure Richmond is very motivated and is taking the air out of the ball and playing relentless D. That is what we will see Saturday. 26-22 Spiders at the half. VCU had 12 pts in about 17 minutes then scored 10 in the last 3.

VCU is a home court hero but merely an average team away from home. They are also a terrible shooting team. This game is ugly...

X falls again. They must be darn close to an NIT appearance.
But look what a desperate Mack is saying:
"Maybe we haven’t won the PR battle but I do know this: I coached in the A-10. And I coach in the Big East now," Mack said.
"And I’m telling you right now, Georgetown would be a Top 2 or 3 team in the Atlantic 10. And it’s not even close," Mack said. #Xavier

Riiiiiiiggggggghhhhhhhtttt.............Time to lash out at a league with more success. There are 6 A10 teams higher in the RPI than X right now Chris. That should be a reality check.
Is Georgetown even in the conversation this year?

I like Mack even less now, and I didn't think that was possible.
