Probably true, according to this, Sean said Pitt is a great place to visit.

John Miller says Sean and Archie Miller are long-shots to take Pitt job. This is about as close as you can get to a no from Sean and Archie themselves.

It does not appear as if Pitt’s search for a new men’s basketball head coach will take very long. It could be a done deal within the next 24 hours.
According to KDKA-TV’s Rich Walsh, Arizona head coach Sean Miller has been offered the position.
Walsh was told, “Pitt is putting the full court press on Miller.”
Additionally, Walsh was told there is a “better than 50 percent chance” he accepts.
Money is not believed to be an issue, but Miller wants to work out other details of the contract, including length and facility upgrades.
Miller is currently in town meeting with Pitt officials.

I'm not sure why anyone would want a lifetime supply of Iron Titty light, but Primanti Bros is building a new shop out by Fairfield commons, so Archie won't have to go far to get his fix.

And not a good deal for Primanti Bros. Saw Sean Miller eat no less than 6-7 Skyliners at a Bengals game ......all well before the first quarter was half over.....Followed that up with a huge pretzel prior to halftime...Not my business to watch another man stuff his pie hole but that was something to see..

Again, John Miller quoted today that Archie and Sean both were really long-shots to take Pitt job as both very happy at their respective schools. John Miller gushed about 14,000 fans a game for Dayton and the crazy expectations Pitt fans/administration has for their program.

Good update...sounds like Archie is not pursuing the Pitt job.
Cronin linked to UNLV... SLU reportedly involved with Vanderbilt hc Stallings and Ok. St. ex-hc Travis Ford...X assistant Travis Steele linked to Wright State job...Bobo to decide on BG's future.

Why would Archie take a demotion to a job like Pitt? I will reiterate what the representative from the company doing arena stated to us-"Dayton is a top 25 program in every category". Pitt has a mediocre fan base and is at best a middle of the pack ACC team.

According to this, Archie is horrible and Pitt is one of the better programs of the ACC that has the talent to make a deep run next year. Also, Will Wade is the best coach in the A-10. I know Pittsburgh has three rivers but I didn't know one of them was called Denial.

Funny that someone also thinks Pitt could triple Archie's salary. If they did I wouldn't blame Archie if he left. Also funny how a lot of them are sick of the Miller's and think there are lots better candidates out there including Bryce Drew.

Couple of us posted on their site to inform them of AM's current salary situation and results. Nor uncommon for a site to overestimate the quality of their program, we do that at times. As a P5 school the feeling of superiority comes naturally, even though it may be misplaced. To keep things on a friendly basis, I did not remind them of the azz kicking the Flyers put on them.

I can understand the superiority feeling, and you're correct we do it to to some extent, but for them to think AM is not one of, if not THE, best candidate out there is just naive of them.

Remember: "Everyone is lying to you."
What better way to throw you off the track that for someone, not the primary coaching candidate himself, to say, "oh, he's not interested in the Pitt coaching job." Until I see AM himself saying right now that he is not interested in the Pitt job, then I will consider that he, like everyone else, has the right and power to further his or her career in any direction they want. Do hope he stays though.

Still think this would be an odd fit. Also don't really believe this is at all about the money.
Might be more about the fact that you can go home again, but only for awhile!

Nobody is talking about this name, and I have no idea if this guy has any interest in moving -- but Gregg Marshall, Wichita State's hc has a better resume than AM. He is consistently in the NCAAs in the 9-10 years he has been at WSU. He took his team to the Final 4 in 2013 and he was named National Coach of the Year in 2014. More chips than AM. He's got to be on everyone's list.

from Rothstein:
Pitt may have to lower its standards to find a new head coach
Sean Miller sent a strong message on Tuesday when he tweeted that he has no interest in leaving Arizona and returning to his alma mater.
It also signaled that the Panthers' administration may have to be a little more realistic in their potential targets to replace Jamie Dixon.
Sean Miller said no. Dayton's Archie Miller will also likely say no, sources told CBS Sports.
Ben Howland?
He's got a top-five recruiting class at Mississippi State coming in and it's a lot easier to navigate the SEC than the ACC in a rebuilding situation.
If those three guys are off the board, then where does Pitt athletic director Scott Barnes turn?
This isn't going to be as easy of a process as some may have thought.

Dayton Daily News article - there is that word "source" again. Also "sources" told CBS that "Archie Miller will likely say no." "Likely" (that's not very comforting). Sources. Sources. Sources.
Remember: Everyone is lying to you. Until the ultimate "source", namely the horses' mouth, says it ain't so, the door iss open until closed by the horse himself. Again hoping he does not go.

And you won't hear it directly from Archie. That's not something he has done in the past, nor should it be something to expect this time around. It also wouldn't surprise me if Jablonski's "source" was Archie himself.

Well, this should close the book on the Archie rumors for this season...I'm sure it won't though.

One of the threads on that Pitt board, that was linked to in some of the above comments, mentioned St. Bonaventure hc Mark Schmidt as a potential candidate for the Pitt job. That might not be a bad hire for Pitt I suppose.
Schmidt probably feels like he really got jobbed by the selection committee this year, and he might be wanting to move on to some place where he would be less likely to get jobbed by the selection committee.

I doubt they are going to hire anyone that is a clear step up from Dixon.

It's meaningless in preventing a coach from moving on. It's not unheard of to agree to a new multi-year extension, and leave a few weeks later. All the contract really does is specify severance if terminated, and the buyout when leaving.

And Marshall has turned down many of those in the past. Not only is he only going to consider a P5 job (Pitt is one of those), but it's only going to be top tier P5. Louisville might pique his interest if Rick is forced out. North Carolina and Duke likely stay "in the family" upon retirements. But it's going to be those type of jobs to get Marshall to move - ditto Few.

I think for Few, Marshall, Mack, and Archie (whom I'd argue are the top 4 "big time targets" now that Shaka moved to Texas), it's not just about the potential school but it's also a timing thing. AM has a senior laden class next year. Marshall had 3 seniors this year including a top backcourt in Van Vleet and Baker. I'd be more worried if I were a Shocker fan this year. Next year it is our turn...

Mark Neal on WING just said the UNLV and Cronin are in discussions. He does not think Mick will take the job but will use it as leverage to get a new arena built and possibly $$. He is making about 2.3 right now.

I read a short time ago about Cronin being unhappy with not enough? access? to a private jet, or not having access to a private jet at all, for recruiting I think...UC just announced plans to renovate the Fifth Third Arena, where are they going to get the money and land to build a new arena? They aren't even coming close to filling the existing arena, they are only filling around half of the seats now.
Fifth Third Arena holds 13,176, 2015 attendance was 9,334 per game.
And they are already putting money into renovating/expanding Nippert Stadium.
And Cronin always talk about Cincinnati being home...he has a young daughter...his family and friends are in Cincinnati...I think this flirtation with UNLV is just a negotiating tactic...he can't be happy being in the American conference though...and attendance is way down from the Huggins era, maybe he really is looking to move on.
But why go to UNLV? Why not go to a p5 school? Maybe he is a big gambler. His resume would seem to qualify him for a p5 job.

Normally, I could not agree more. The one exception is when you genuinely have two men of honor. Their handshake and eye-to-eye connection actually means something. I really believe we have that with our coach and the AD.
The ones who would step on anyone to reach the top are of course excepted. ....Harrick, Tarkanian, Calipari, et al.
But again, you're right about the exit clause.

And I am not insinuating AM is seeking opportunities. Just that saying someone just signed an extension so they are out of the running for openings is not the way it works out. And doesn't have to be unethical. Both parties would still be following the contract extension

Is it harder to make it to the final 4 as the top of the A10 or #7 in ACC...this will be an age long debate.
We went to the E8 in 2014. If you took out the top 5-6 programs in ACC -- UL, Duke, UNC, Cuse, UVA -- how many have made the E8 in the past 10 years? ND did it last year I remember, but after that it's a toss up...
IMO Dayton is the better gig
EDIT: a quick look back through the brackets over the past few years showed no acc teams outside of those 5 I mentioned reaching the E8 (exception ND in 15), while in the A10 X and UD did it, and comparable programs like Butler, VCU, Davidson, Whichita St all had runs.

You make valid points...you did good research.

I still think this flirtation was just a negotiating tactic...the UNLV people may not be pleased with being used as a bargaining chip.

I didn't want to start a new thread so I figured I'd put this here.
Multiple sources are reporting that Kevin Stallings(Vandy) may be going to Pitt.
If I'm a Pitt fan I would absolutely want to give up. They would be better off going with a young assistant with a higher ceiling than Stallings.

Of interest to UD because of the A10 connection is that VCU coach Will Wade is a Nashville native. He will certainly be on Vandy's short list. For the sake of the A10, hope he stays at VCU.

I don't see VCU to Vandy as an upgrade. Didn't the former theOSU president, when he was at Vandy, put the athletic department under the academic chain of command, sorta eliminating the athletic department. Can't imagine a coach wanting to get into that kind of mess.

That one may be another example of "The Brian Gregory." Stallings was one of the highest paid coaches in the country and he did very little for that much cabbage at Vandy. Didn't hear too much grumbling from Vandy fans, but they couldn't have been happy with the past four seasons. On the flip side, this is far from a home run hire for Pitt.
(link is two years old, but Stallings was #17 on this list)

According to Sports Illustrated on line:
"UNLV will hire Arkansas-Little Rock’s Chris Beard as its new head basketball coach, according to multiple reports.
Beard’s contract will be for five years, according to ESPN’s Jeff Goodman."

Your browser does not support iframes.

Beard led the Trojans to a 30–5 record and a trip to the NCAA tournament in 2015–16. Twelfth-seeded Little Rock knocked off No. 5 Purdue in the first round.

In 8 years at OSU, he made the NCAAT 5 times, not bad at all. But, he only made the round of 32 once, that was probably his downfall.

Yeah - to win a grand total of one NCAA game in 15 years is not exactly lighting it up. He does have a track record though of getting an A10 team to the NIT though. Improvement over Crews? Yeah, but who wouldn't be? Good hire? Don't think so. Guessing they didn't think they could get Bryce Drew, but Leon Rice from Boise would have been a better hire IMO.

Sounds like Wright State is considering a lot of coaches for their job. This is quite a contrast to when Donlon was hired one day after Brownell left for Clemson.
http://hoopdirt.com/daily-dirt-33016/:
Yesterday I mentioned that South Dakota State head coach Scott Nagy’s name has surfaced at Wright State. I have now also heard from multiple sources that Marty Simmons (head coach Evansville), Joe Dooley (head coach Florida Gulf Coast), and Cliff Warren (assistant coach Maryland – former head coach Jacksonville) should be added to the list. It sounds like AD Bob Grant has a list of 6-7 coaches who have either interviewed or will interview shortly. More on this one as I hear it.

Scott Nagy would be a really good hire I think. Dooley could be good as well. Those guys have gotten teams to the tourney which you would think would be a likely requirement since that is the reason they fired Donlon. Would not predict a lot of success if they hire Marty Simmons or Cliff Warren.

Isn't Travis Ford a UD killer? I don't believe we ever beat him when he was at UMass. Also, didn't Eastern Kentucky upset us 10 years ago or so when Ford was their coach? I would not sell him short (pun intended).

Why any of those head coaches mentioned would consider Wright St is beyond me. My guess is they are using them for contract leverage. For Nagy and Dooley, it would be a lateral move. It would be a step down for Simmons. Doesn't make sense.

Simmons can't seem to get Evansville into the NCAA. UNI and Wichita State are the class of that league. Maybe he is worried about getting Donlon-ed. Going to Wright State might be a Purnellian move to extend his coaching career, but also I can see the reasoning in thinking it would be easier to get Wright State to the tourney than it would be Evansville. While Valpo is dominating the Horizon, things could open up a bit if Bryce Drew leaves for a bigger job. So for comparison @ Wright State you are looking up at one program who could be vulnerable; @ Evansville, you are looking up at 2 programs who seem pretty stable.

Note: Wright State swept Valparaiso this year. it was a costly loss @ bottom feeder UIC that kept Wright State out of the conference tournament double bye (and ultimately cost Donlon his job).

The Dayton City Paper had an article by Marc Katz two days ago about Donlon and Wright State. The beginning of the article lists coaches who interviewed and were passed over by WSU in the past. Names were surprising to me. (They don't seem to have a proof reader either, but... the paper is free.

I think UD fans would have been happy with any of those coaches...I was only aware of Crean and Dixon interviewing, I learned about Dixon interviewing due to somebody on here posting the fact that he interviewed.

Absolutely no way a few of the coaches listed here interviewed with WSU in the last 10 years, which is what the article clearly says. Maybe at one point, but was more than a decade ago.
Was Dixon going to leave Pitt for WSU?
Was Sean Miller leaving X or Zona for WSU?
Tom Crean in the last 10 years?
Gregory- Was he leaving Dayton or Tech? Or are they hinting at the possibility that he may have interviewed with them in the past week or so?

Um yea, oops.
But what the heck kind of 9 is that, looks alot like a 0 as the bottom hook part is below the main line of writing.
I vow to never post again before my morning coffee.
