3 point line will be farther back this year

Distance last year was 20'9".

New distance is 22'1.75".

So 16.75" farther back.

NBA 3 pt line is 22 feet in the corners and goes out to 23 feet 9 inches.

From NCAA:

The committee said the line was moved to make the lane more available for drives from the perimeter, to slow the trend of making 3-pointers so prevalent and to create more offensive spacing by requiring the defense to cover more of the court.

They are expecting less threes to be taken.

I like this change, hopefully not so much catch and chuck.

Is it farther or further? I never did get that right in English class! Any English majors out there?

Iíd like to see the mid range game come back but I donít think this will have much of an impact.

I think you're right -- it'll just get chucked up from wherever the line is.

I think the numbers from the NIT when they used the new line as experiment weren't that much different

Springboro fan: When using a term to describe "distance," as in this case, it is "farther."
I actually think this might work to the Flyers' favor this year, as I believe we will have more players who can penetrate and finish than we will have three-point shooters. I would love to see the statistics on how the Flyers have fared since the initiation of the three-point shot 30 years ago. In my estimation, the Flyers have had more three-point shots scored against them than the Flyers have scored. I think Coach Donoher had a horrible time adjusting both his offense and his defense to the three-ball.

I had the same concern but was too lazy to look up the correct usage.

I am glad that apparently I had the correct usage!

I Minored in English

and the only thing I remember is the Commandment to never end a sentence with a preposition. To this day it is something up with which I will not put.

So here's the very old Texas joke. Very proper NYC business gale walks into the Texas restaurant. The waitress walks up and says" Howdy, where y'all from?:"

The NY gal says with a bit of arrogance, "Where I'm FROM we don't end a sentence with a preposition".

To which the waitress answers, " Oh, I get it, all right then, where are y'all from, B**ch.

In the year we have a disproportionate number of players who can finish, I'm not sure defenses that have been conditioned to pack the lane and stand under the hoop in order to force you to shoot from outside plays to our advantage.

I think what we would want is a closer 3 point line that forces defenses to run at average shooters, thus opening driving lanes.

Since we're giving English lessons, this should be "fewer," not "less."
