Seton Hall Game Thread
Time for the 2nd Premier OOC Home Game... Let's Get It!
Seton Hall is playing very well right now (9-1)... Herb Pope has been sensational (Career Year)... One good thing for us is they have not played a true road game yet (they played in a 3-game tourney this year)
Must bring our "A" game and continue the good start to the Archie Miller era.
Priority #1: works as a team to contain Herb Pope, especially on the boards
Hopefully Luke and especially CJ can play!
Let's do it boys and get our 4th BCS Scalp so far!

We need usual games from Dillard, and good games from one of our bigs and either P willie, Josh Parker and Benson. Somebody bring it and bring it consistently.
Gonna need all 8 or 9 guys to contribute.

A preview from a seton hall rivals site:
http://setonhall.rivals.com/showmsg....id=959&style=2
A decent review, but the guy responding (4th I think) who has seen UD 3 times I think gets it right. UD has been so inconsistant that going simply off of palm's stat sheets does't do this team justice. It all depends on which offense shows up, the one that attacks inside out and moves the ball freely, or the one that stalls on the perimeter for 25 seconds of each play clock?
Either way, I'm looking forward to it. I'm begining to think Seton Hall will be a middle of the pack or better Big East team, rather than a bottom 1/3 big east team as I thought they would be when the season started. Would make for a nice scalp over a team that might be on the bubble with UD come selection sunday. A lot of work to do for both teams before now and then; this is a game UD could really use to help keep the momentum gained in the Alabama games. Hopefully CJ & Luke are healthy.

We're definitely going to need Benson to play big tonight. Resonating the initial post Pope is a beast on the boards and in the post....hes the leader of the big east in points AND rebounds 22.1 points and 11.8 rebs
interesting story about pope though...i went to the rock last year to see the game last year between ud and shu. my dad's a shu alumni so we sat behind the shu bench. Charles Smith from the knicks, who's taking masters classes there, was sitting in front of us and he was explaining to us how he's been a mentor for pope since high school. it was a nice story

Doug Harris' DDN preview article has Josh Parker starting, not CJ. I hope CJ can go. Could be another chance for Devin Oliver to step up though. He has made some nice plays over the last couple games.

Links to a couple DDN articles are below with comments on the Seton Hall game and their best player, Pope. As others here said, Pope is a beast. Doug Harris thinks he is probably the best player in the Big East. In addition to leading the league in points and rebounds, he currently leads the nation in double doubles with 8.
Pope a challenge for foul-prone Flyers:
http://www.daytondailynews.com/dayto...s-1302140.html
Flyers to play Seton Hall:
Seton Hall is rated 7th nationally in the RPI standings going into Tuesday’s game (UD is 22nd).

Pope is going to be a handful but so is Fuquan (sp?)...I think this will be a big game for Devon Oliver, esp if CJ is still gimpy.
I like DO's skills, and his head for the game, but he tends to be a little weak finishing at the rim. I'd love to see him put a lock on Fuquon and to grab some big rebounds if Archie gives him big minutes.

Still way too many baseline views for me to follow. Also, the in-game replays force us to miss too much game action. We just missed Benson's foul. I will send them another email with specific references.

Most teams win if they continue to shoot 64% and 71%. It's a miracle we are this close. Part of it is our defense, but the bigger part is they are shooting lights out.
We are playing well enough to win if SH just comes back down to earth with their shooting. Of course we have to hit some fts.

1-6 from the FT line? WTF
Still, have more confidence that Archie will find a way to get his players to play harder and with more intensity in the 2nd half than BG might have

"Freedom" bites us in the butt. All we've read is how these guys are now "free" to shoot or "free" to handle the ball on fast breaks. Oliver takes two 3's when we really need a hoop. Bad news. Then, CJ tries to lead a fast break. Bad news. "Freedom" isn't always great.

Really bad stretch. Archie needs to have a good, long chat with Oliver. Those were very, very costly mistakes. He is not a 3-point shooter. He shouldn't even be set outside the arc!

Are we sure Devin's role has been defined for him? That's up to the coaches.

This one was not meant to be. We had plenty of chances to take it and just couldn't get over the hump.

If Devin can't play the 4 spot, then I'm sorry, he needs to sit. He is an offensive liability sitting out there on the wing.

Shot selection down the stretch killed us tonight. Need to shake it off, watch the film, and get ready for Friday by correcting tonight's mistakes. Only 2 days. Gotta move on.

I dug out some of my old Tivo games from 2-3 years ago the other night. Under Archie our offense has improved a bit, but the defense.......NOT EVEN CLOSE.

PW, JP and KD combined 2 - 11 from beyond the arc. Ouch.

So who then? Not a lot of choices. PW was 1-5 tonight.

I'm still scratching my head why the refs informed Seton Hall that they had 6 guys on the court, rather than let them inbounds and call a technical on them. I was furious.

Bad bad defense tonight. they were driving at will and shooting three's with little in their face.
Not a good game. Score doesn't reflect the qualityof the game.

Part of a refs job is to avoid problems...it's why they tell the inbounding player it's a 'spot' throw-in as opposed to where they can run the baseline...same thing with 'hands-off', 'keep moving', etc....
It keeps the flow going....good refs do it.
