Personally I feel this was a poorly coached game.
End of first half, we run a play picking up 21 yards then with 20 sec left just walk off the field. Why not try to another run who know could break one open but not if you don't even try.
At end of game in field goal range we run a play on 4th down instead of kicking the filed goal. With little over 90 sec left in game MSU gets past our secondary got yet another score.
Playing like we did today the SD game will be a blood bath.
Sorry but right now i'm not sold on this coaching staff.

Looking back at our last defensive stand it looks like we're in a prevent defense to keep them out of field goal range. While we were thinking field goal they were thinking TD.
Had we kick a field goal that would have changed the dynamics of the game. MSU would have had to go for the TD which in my mind our defense changes to prevent the TD not a field gosl. Our defense wo u ld have played deeper not letting anyone get behind them.

If the offense didn't sputter so much in the 2nd half and continue their fumblethon the defense wouldn't have been on the field so long...again coaching, perhaps playing too conservatively.

Avid, agree with you. Get a little momentum why sit on ball. Did the same thing last week or maybe RMU game got ball with 45 seconds or so and all of our time outs and Flyers run out the clock to go into half. MSU knew how conservative and vanilla the play calling was and kept 8 in the box. That was really tough to watch. Maybe , hopefully it lights a fire under them and Flyers run the table and hope for the best.

Listening to the 4th qtr defense I kept thinking about times I saw us run out of steam late in the heat/humidity of Jacksonville & give up a win we should have preserved.
Bring back the pickles & pickle juice for the "D" boys!

We ran out of energy in 4th quarter cause the defense was on the field too long. As mentioned our plain vanilla offense wasn't hard to defend. The guys gave it their all but the play calling left a lot to be desired.
You never havery enough points. This loss is clearly on the coaches. Play to win, don't sit on it.

Chamberlin on hot seat?
I know he's a grad and Kelly protégé, but with our tradition and facilities, we should be elite I-AA non-schol & occasionally make playoffs.
San Diego is the measuring stick. We're not there.

We're just not the program we were under Kelley, granted other programs have closed the gap but our performances seem sub par to what we should be. But then again what do I know.

Columbia, can't argue with tradition! But facilities?? Flyers play in an old public high school stadium decked out in blue and gold and locker room is bottom half of the PFL. Other programs are out in front raising $ but Flyers get budget cuts.

Hey Avid, always good to hear from you; and other alums from different states. I remember when most on here were alums & few were parents. Keep it up all season.
I felt the way you did about time on field. But the stats show Time of Possession was in UD favor - 34:02 vs 25:57. So our "D" played less than half the game. They have to be able to do that just as the "O" has to score enough to win in more than half the game. Same heat/humidity for both teams. They did play 33 players to our 24 players. Don't know the size of a travel squad?

Flyers receive the wake up call ,cut down on costly turnovers, make some defensive adjustments , coaches open up playbook and our young K gets more confident. UD runs the table wins PFL in some sort of tie breaker and advance. Yesterday's loss becomes a distant memory but one they learn from. Go Flyers!! My Red solo cup is always half full!

Funny you post that. After watching the game yesterday I was depressed and felt the season at 1-3 was done.
Then woke up in middle of the might with a whole different take on yesterdays results and the fate UD has complete control of. Beat SDU and run the tables and we win the title outright. All is not lost, take out SDU and then let them run the tables and were in like flint.
But I agree, open the playbook and stop being conservative, and I mean that in a non political way.
Half full or half empty there is still more to drink.

A lot to unpack after that incredibly disappointing loss. As noted above, however, the Flyers still control their own destiny. While there are a number of areas that need to be cleaned up, there isn't a team on their schedule that they can't beat. In fact, I watched a bit of the San Diego game and, while it will be a challenge, that team is beatable.
Having had the chance to look at the stats, there are a few things that jumped out:
1. While I agree that the offense continues to be too conservative, it's tough to put to much blame on that side of the ball for this game. The offense: (i) put up 28 pts.; (ii) ran up 431 total yds. and averaged 5.9 yds./play; (iii) dominated time of possession, including a 19:04 to 10:56 advantage in the 2nd half.
2. Again, while the fumbling/turnover issue really needs to be corrected, that also had very little impact on the outcome of this game. The Flyers fumbled 3 times, but only lost 1. They also had one interception, but no points were scored following either turnover.
3. Apologies for stating the obvious, but the issue in this game was giving up big plays. MSU averaged an incredible 42+ yds. on its scoring plays, with 4 of the 5 coming from 38, 52, 60 and 55, respectively.
4. The primary issues I saw that led to the big plays were: (i) the inability to consistently put pressure on the QB with only the 4 down lineman; (ii) some incredibly bad pursuit angles in the defensive secondary; (iii) mental errors in coverage.
The good news is that all of the issues above are fixable. I believe the players (and coaches) will rally, and we will see a focused and determined team next Saturday.

I agree pretty much with what everyone is saying. I do think, however, that dominating the time of possession in the MSU game is something we should not be terribly proud of. It's not hard to enjoy the time of possession advantage -- particularly in the 2nd half -- when, that FI duly pointed out, you give up TDs of 38, 52, 60, and 55 yards.
I felt we've made little in the way of adjustments defensively this year. Knowing all year long the CBs are needing help, why isn't there any safety help? We've shown the propensity to give up the big play in every game this year. Our opponents have to see this and will obviously try to take advantage of this.
Despite this, our winning streak starts this week vs USD. Seven in a row!
Love our Flyers!!
