Richmond Game Thread
We need this one. It just might be the "easiest" game left on the schedule.

Squash the Spiders
I guess when defense is your identity, no victory appears easy. It's a little odd that when a team scores a lot, fans expect 20 point wins. It kind of follows that when teams together don't score a lot, a "comfortable margin" is more like 8 to 12 points. Which of course leaves us fans biting our nails until the end.
What a great trip this has been so far.
Go Flyers, no arachnophobia tonight !!

Time to lace them up and get the job done! Let's go Flyers - need a bigger game from everybody now that we have lost one of our best players - crank it up a notch and take it to them!

Richmond is packing it in really really tight. There's no room for the interior players to receive passes, even at the high post. We'll need to hit our outside shots to make room for the post players and get the dribble drive to be there for us.
Really low paced game so far. I would think that would favor Richmond at the moment.

It's been a joy watching Perry and Searcy improve each game. These guys are now very comfortable on the court.
I love ST's offensive game, but he is a steep dropoff on the defensive side of the ball compared to LW and RL.

Have to get used to ST. He penetrates much more undercontrol than Rob, but he walks the ball into the offense end a lot. There is definitely a different energy focus.

Maybe the best half of basketball from Kurt all year.
4 offensive rebounds by this Richmond team is unacceptable. That is all due to lack of hustle, imo. I expect this to change in the 2nd half, I'm sure BG will let them have it at half.

They have loosened up that zone a little now. CW received that pass on the final possession right in the center of the zone. If they aren't packing it in, that would be exactly where you want to attack the zone. Got us two freebies.
Dayton has the 31-29 lead at the half.

I expected a bit more fire in Dayton's belly even though there is some let down playing Richmond after Xavier.
But, remember last year's defeat at Richmond with Chris and Charles out and BRob with the flu? That irritating "overrated" chanting from the Richmond fans was loud and clear, and is burned in my memory. I would absolutely love to see a bit of pay back and believe that it is in order.

I don't understand Bucky's continual reference to this game being Richmond's pace. They average 70/game and allow 68. We score 67/game and allow 59.
I admit we feel different without Rob (not a good feeling at all), but it's closer to our scoring pace than theirs.

This smells nothing like the Charlotte game. At least Charlotte wanted to get out an run a little. Richmond is getting by on guile and good defense for the most part. This smells a lot more like the Saint Louis game to me. That one was a white knuckle affair, and I would expect this one to be the same.

SDF, pace is not always about scoring. As you know, our offense is extrememly inefficient. On the other hand, Richmond has a very efficient offense. We turn the ball over a lot. They don't. Don't let the scoring number fool you; this game is defintely being played at Richmond's pace. Our defense has been quite good; we denied those back-cuts all half. Otherwise they would running right at about their scoring average or above. On the other hand, we need to do a much better job on the defense glass. We gave up seven offensive rebounds in the first half.

Can't blame the defense on that last three by Richmond. We were all over him and he stuck it from 28 feet. If it's close at the end we have to try to deny the ball to that Gonzalvez kid.

Obviously not playing with the same sense of urgency as we did against X. Important we come out on fire to start the half. I hope it doesn't go down to the wire.

In case you missed CW's dunk against Marquette, that was a replay.

We're up 10 in a low scoring game and Bucky calls it a nail biter.

Yeah, CW's knee hit the dude's shoulder.
BTW, I love having the replay on the Internet stream!

That's only 4 possessions with what....10 plus minutes to play? I'm not real comfortable either.

I'm not warmin g up the bus either, but this game is not a nail biter. 10 points is about 25% of their total score

I disagree with Bucky -- I thought LWs pass was mishandled by CW -- looked like a good feed.
Gotta stop fouling...

From here on out, get the ball to Wright at the high post and good things will happen. Not a good time to forget who our star is.

We are not helping much on defense, putting too much pressure on one on one.

As far as I'm concerned they're all nail biters until the clock reads. 0:00. 10 point lead again, that's 4 possession. We keep fouling Anderson and he hits his FTs the clock is not running.
