Marist
The Flyers travel to Poughkeepsie NY to take on the Marist Red Foxes in the last game of the year. Marist comes into this game with a 5-4 record overall and a 5-1 record in the PFL. Their only PFL loss was to San Diego two weeks ago in Poughkeepsie. The Red Foxes are coming off a big win in Deland FL over Stetson which they won in the last couple minutes of the game. They are led by R-So QB Mike White who played really well in the Stetson contest. He is averaging 273 yd/gm through the air with an efficiency rating of 119. White is the real deal for the Red Foxes, their team leader in every measure. Their leading receivers are So Justin Christian and Jr Lawrence Dickens averaging 93 and 53 yd/gm, respectively. To say they like to throw the ball is probably an understatement. In the backfield at the RB position, their go to guy is R-Jr Marcellus Calhoun (who went to Bishop Hartley in Columbus OH). Calhoun is averaging 51 yd/gm on the ground. He is also their 3rd leading receiver on the year. The second leading rusher is the QB White. He likes to scramble and does a good job of picking up yardage when his receivers are not open. Overall, their offense is picking up a total of 373 yd/gm, of which 286 yd is through the air while 87 yd is on the ground. On defense, they are led by LB Willie Barrett who has a total of 60 tackles on the year. Their second leading tackler is S Wes Beans, with a total of 56 stops on the year. Beans also leads them in picks with 6 on the year. As a team, they have 16 picks on the year which is 1 behind our Flyers in the PFL. Their defense has also forced 5 fumbles year to date. Marist has always been sound defensively and are sound again this year.
As always, this will be a hard hitting competitive football game in Poughkeepsie this Saturday. The Flyer radio announcers discussed that a number of times during the call of the Valpo game last weekend. To win this one, we will need to contain their elusive QB by putting pressure on him while maintaining our rush lanes. Their running game is solid and we need to be able to stop them from being successful on ground. On offense, I think we need to run the ball effectively to set up our passing game. Jeske’s running ability has been important in us winning our last 6 games and will be even more important this weekend. We have progressed positively each week this season since the San Diego game and will have to progress in the forward direction this weekend.
Our team has been playing inspired football over this last couple of weeks. We will need more of the same to be successful at Marist. I think our guys are up to the challenge and will have a very good game on Saturday. Go Dayton Flyers!

Containing White is the key. If defense can put enough pressure on him and secondary contains the WR's he can be forced into making questionable decisions. I think Jeske can be successful with some read options and Flyers need to control ball and tempo. Marist looks for the Home Run a lot so can't let their receivers sneak behind our secondary. Should be a good game and Marist is expecting a good crowd for their senior day. Go Flyers

I think the key on the defensive end would, like others have said, is to keep pressure on their QB. We cannot, however, have the defensive backfield breakdowns that we've seem to be susceptible to this year. Long, quick striking, touchdowns by Marist will make for another frustrating 2nd half of football.
GO FLYERS!!!

Nice win for Flyers. Absolutely manhandled the Red Foxes. The Marist QB did pose some problems as did the officials with that 4th and goal from 1 pass interference call. Flyer O was unstoppable , Jeske PFL player of week hands down. Great job on special teams. Wish the Flyers had USD later on season but 9-2 is a great season. Congrats to coaches and players.

Pretty nice to have the QB spot anchored for the next few years. He is just getting better and better.

PFL Players of the Week - Jeske and Stubbs
Big shout out to QB Alex Jeske and CB Cameron Stubbs on their PFL Offensive and Special Teams Player of the week designations! Stubbs took one kickoff to the house and ran another to the Marist 5 yard line. The TD by Stubbs officially put the rout of Marist in the books. Jeske had the single best performance by a Flyer QB that I have ever seen! He ran for four TDs and added two through the air. This game was never in question due to the play of these two young men. Very deserving honor for both.

T'was an impressive game just listening. I've never seen such K.O. returns...amazing. Really makes coaching easier. Congrats to Stubbs.
Today's dependency for QB play of passing & running is something that teams expect (say OSU) & Jeske showed how to win by doing just that. Congrats Alex! You are beginning to put up "Valentino-like" numbers & in fact it evoked that name from Coach K. The record book is open for you next season.
Probably none of us expected the margin or total points at this Marist game. Some was offense, some special teams & enough defense to keep their QB from going wild. All working together makes winning much easier. Thanks Seniors & 5th year guys!
Now we can agree that the pre-season Coaches Poll was pretty close. And you can't replay games on the schedule. Perhaps the team w/o enough love was Valpo. Amazing win on Saturday! And Jacksonville better watch out this Saturday for that Marist QB!
Is it about 50 days until winter workout? Go Flyers!

Another well-deserved honor for Cam Stubbs: STATS FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week.
http://www.fcs.football/cfb/story.as...ea&tm=&src=FCS
Note: The Flyers' RS-So. QB was an honorable mention for National Offensive Player of the Week.
Note2: Just noticed that the Flyers received 2 votes for the STATS FCS Top 25. Not bad.
