Are we going to make the NCAA?

Odd title for this post. But look back to early season.

Look at this message board during this year's OOC. Injuries, losses to St. Mary's, Nebraska and Northwestern created angst. One poster said that the chances of making the NCAA were very slim or worse. This is not a knock on his assessment. He was probably right. He said that UD could lose very few games in the A10 in order to make the dance. Well, the team did just that.

With no margin for error, UD blitzed through the A10 regular season. As a I look back at the regular season, I now appreciate that the 15-3 record was simply amazing. Beating Rhode Island twice and VCU once was awesome. This team played incredibly well while facing a lot of adversity. If they finished 14-4, 13-5, they might have been a bubble team or out.

While the Davidson loss was very disappointing, the selection committee did not weigh it heavily. Look at the seeds of Rhode Island (11) and VCU (10). All year, the forecasts had only two A10 teams making the tourney; until today.

No matter what happens in Indianapolis, we should be incredibly impressed with this team. In many ways, they are total over achievers. Two transfers and several players bypassed by other programs. They are winners, but each player has strengths and weaknesses. There is lots of criticism, but their 4 year accomplishments have been incredible. Congratulations!

They are not done yet. Now, play your best game(s) of the year this week. See you in Indianapolis.

Don't sell us short, we were 15-3 not 13-3.

One other thing, it's a shame the players couldn't get a grasp at what was at stake when they played GW. They thought reaching the goal of regular season A10 champs was great enough to mail it in. After looking at our path, I think a 6th seed(or maybe even a 5th) is worth more than an A10 championship and should've been looked at that way by the players.

Smitty - i like your thinking, but not sure the players became satisfied or content. We came out flat in games like that a bunch during the season, only to make a furious comeback and fall just short.

A 5 seed was really out of reach. Look at what Duke did and who they beat to move 2 seeding lines (the committee chair said this flat out) Clemson, Louisville, UNC, ND.

I hear you, but who's to say we weren't teetering as a 6th seed before we lost to GW? I really believe if we hadn't played GW that week and say played them on Tuesday the following week we would have cracked the top 25, that's 6 seed range.
