A10 Standings
Halfway through the conference slate, UD finds itself tied for second place, a half-game behind VCU--a team that suffered not only its first conference loss on Saturday, but must now deal with the absence of Briante Weber's 8 points, 4.4 assists, 4 rebounds, and 3.9 steals per game. He was a catalyst for VCU’s disruptive style of play.
Some naysayers have stated their opinion on this board that UD will win as few as two more games in conference play. I don't see it. I believe UD will finish in the top 4 (earning a bye to the A10 quarterfinals), and the biggest reason is the unbalanced league schedule. Whereas in years past UD has faced the toughest pod in conference play, this season we have the easiest path to the conference tournament quarterfinals, and looking strictly at A10 teams with .500 or better conference records, the numbers bear this out:
.................................................. ..........VCU......UD......URI......GW......Rich.. ...UMass......Dav
Current conference record.................7-1......7-2.......7-2.......6-3.......5-3.........5-3...........5-3
Games against top 7 conf teams........9.........6..........7...........9... .......9.............7...............9
Record against top 7 conf teams......3-1......1-2.......1-2.......1-2.......2-3.........2-1...........3-2
Games remaining against top 7..........5.........3..........4...........6..... .....4.............4...............4
.................................................. ...........@Rich...@GW...@Rich...@Rich..@UMass...@ URI......@GW
.................................................. ...........@Dav...@VCU...@UD.....@Dav.....URI..... ...@VCU.....@URI
.................................................. ...........@GW......URI....UMass.....Day.......GW. .......@GW........GW
.................................................. ..........UMass.................Dav.......VCU..... .VCU........Rich........VCU
.................................................. .............UD...............................UMas s.......................................
.................................................. .................................................. Dav..........................................
Bottom 7 games remaining.................5...........6..........5 ...........3...........6............6............. 6
My takeaways regarding the remaining schedule:
- VCU, GW, and UMass have the toughest remaining schedules, though VCU is arguably the best team in the league and GW plays only 2 more road games against the top half of the conference. UMass has only four remaining games against top 7 teams, but three are on the road and the fourth (Richmond) just won at VCU.
- UD and Richmond have the easiest remaining schedules, each facing 6 teams from the lower half of the league and Richmond having to play only 1 more top 7 team (UMass) on the road. VCU will be seeking redemption, however, in the return game against the Spiders.
- Watch out for Rhody. They are the only team on this list without a remaining game against VCU. Their home games against UMass and Davidson are winnable. Captain Obvious says: URI at Dayton will be a critical game.

Wow 1903Flyer. I wasn't looking at this today and thinking of posting something but your analysis was much more in depth than anything i would have done. Nice work.
My pick for top 4 VCU, UD, URI and Richmond.

3 out of 4 of Richmond's big games are at home. GW has 5 games left against the top 7.

Mostly agree, but I have Davidson slipping in at #4 ahead of Richmond and GW.

So for those who thought the A10 would be weak this year, now there are seven solid teams.

This is just a "nit", but George Mason should probably be 11th and Duquesne 12th in the standings.

I have done a "Why Pods Suck" post the last few years, and this thread has motivated me to do a similar analysis this year. I'll start a new post with the data, but it is interesting when comparing it to last year.
