Akron
Bowling Green
Cincinnati
Cleveland State
Dayton
Kent State
Miami
Ohio
Ohio State
Toledo
Wright State
Xavier
Youngstown State
13 Ohio teams. Brainstorming a format just because...
Take 8 teams. Choose the top 8 teams by RPI (based on previous season RPI rankings) and invite them to participate. Schedule it for December or January. Late enough that the season RPI has some meaning, but early enough to not conflict with late season games. Split the 8 teams into two halves based on the current season's RPI:
Round 1:
A: 1vs4
B: 2vs3
C: 5vs8
D: 6vs7
Round 2:
E: Game A winner vs Game B winner
F: Game A loser vs Game B loser
G: Game C winner vs Game D winner
H: Game C loser vs Game D loser
Round 3:
Game E winner vs Game G winner
Game E loser vs Game G loser
Game F winner vs Game H winner
Game F loser vs Game H loser
Kind of an anti-climactic finale since the top teams play each other early, but there is a chance for an upset. Upside is that nobody's schedule takes a bad hit from this. 3 games where the top 4 teams play each other for the first 2 rounds, and the 5 worst Ohio teams aren't in the tournament at all. And big incentive to play your way into the top 4 so you can play with seeds 1-4 instead of seeds 5-8.

That's too much and too many RPI anchors. Keep it simple just OSU, UC, X, and UD. He wasn't talking about a tourney, but he was talking about a Crossroads Classic like they have in Indiana.

Way too complex and in today's environment of some conferences going to more conference games and less Non-Con games ...... not playable.
A 4 team event with rotating teams invited so there is a different 4 team set each year. The 4 teams would not play a round robin (see reasoning above.)
Or to make it more interesting let the winner or winners of previous year get to play against a new set of teams the following year with no winner going past 2 years in a row.
Each year play at different sites around the state OR set it at a central location that is neutral.

Indiana, Butler, Notre Dame, Purdue. Same teams every year. OSU, UC, X, and UD would be the logical choices.

I hope he does it but I think OSU is gonna be boxed in with their schedule going forward. 20 league games, ACC/B1G challenge, CBS Champions Classic are 22 games on the book every year plus the Gavitt games with the Big East

Sadly your probably right. But, If it happens the furthest I would expect the Buckeyes to ever travel would be downtown to Nationwide Arena, so pretty much another home game for them.

According to a friend who misses very few OSU home games, that game was about as loud as he ever heard the Buckeye basketball crowd, as they were embarrassed by the Flyer faithful being much louder before the game even started.

They have agreed to a game at UC. That's a big deal. Even if the games were at Nationwide every year that would be fine with me. It would be well worth it to get to play those three teams on a rotating basis. If the tickets were evenly split four ways it wouldn't be a home game for them.

As someone who's been to a few OSU basketball games, it only takes 4 10-year olds and a whoopee cushion to make more noise than the 12-14k football fans tOSU typically gets at a basketball game.

In all likelihood UD and tOSU would never play in this event unless every 3rd year the event didn't actually happen. XU and UC aren't going to ever play each other outside their annual Crosstown shootout games. This was brought up in an earlier thread also and I came up with a proposed schedule if the event took every 3rd year off. Here is the schedule and a link to the thread. NA=Nationwide Arena
Year 1: Ohio Classic at NA UD vs UC XU vs OSU
Year 2: Ohio Classic at NA UD vs XU UC vs OSU
Year 3: UD at OSU (X at UC play the Crosstown shootout as normal)
Year 4: Ohio Classic at NA UD vs UC XU vs OSU
Year 5: Ohio Classic at NA UD vs XU UC vs OSU
Year 6: OSU at UD (X at UC play the Crosstown shootout as normal)
http://www.udpride.com/forums/showth...sroads+classic
I don't think this format is likely but it would be the only way UD & tOSU would ever play.

The format would be OSU/Dayton rotating Xavier/UC. UC and Xavier aren't going to play on a neutral court. The other factor to consider is whether Xavier would take a shot at OSU every other year if it meant playing Dayton. They scheduled Northern Iowa H/H instead of a series with a Flyers
Considering the growing difficulty of scheduling I'd take Xavier or Cincinnati on a neutral court every year

FWIW, Xavier is playing vs. Ohio State in a secret scrimmage this year at the Cintas Center.
That would seem to lend credence to the idea that all this talk about an Ohio tourney is legitimate.

I'm guessing the guys at that Georgia basketball blog just decided to list the fundraiser games in the secret scrimmage list to keep the list of scrimmages in one place for the sake of simplicity.

The secret scrimmages are not fundraisers. The NCAA passed a rule 2 weeks ago to allow teams to add a 3rd open to the public scrimmage. All proceeds from this exhibition game must go to a Hurricane Relief charity. This game can be played against another DI opponent. Last night VCU played Liberty in one of these games. A ton more games like this are scheduled.

So Notre Dame and Butler don't play each other, which means UD would not play Ohio State, unless a home-and-home between the two could be worked out every third year as outlined above - or some other arrangement could be made. UC and X could play their "Crosstown Shootout" every third year on a neutral court (in Cincy) as part of this tourney, but that isn't likely. A lot of details need to be worked out.

That's correct that ND and Butler never play but that is simply a byproduct of IU and Purdue not playing each other in the event because they are in the same conference and play each other in Big Ten games.
UC and X are not playing the crosstown shootout on a neutral court which is why I proposed the schedule above so UD and tOSU would have a chance to play. While I like my idea I don't think it will actually come to fruition. I think the most likely scenario is where UD and tOSU never play in the event and UD just plays UC & XU every other year in the event.

These teams haven't agreed to play us in years. I'm sure both would love to play Ohio State, but I can't see agree that there's any "likely" scenario where they'd agreed to play us, as part of an event or in the regular season.
