On a brighter Note - Pierre
http://insider.espn.go.com/mens-coll...espnapi_public
2nd team Bilas All Tournament Team
Dyshawn Pierre, Dayton Flyers: An efficient wing with good size and skills, Pierre was excellent during the Flyers' run and led Dayton with his versatility and consistency. Just a sophomore, Pierre has great touch and a smooth stroke and is very gifted. With a great feel, Pierre is a natural, and can step away and hit multiple 3s in a game. Pierre averaged 13 points, 5 rebounds and 2.5 assists, and did so in some low-possession games.

Great to read......He was really too unselfish or, rather, unaggressive earlier in the year for the talent he has. Some of it could have been he's still a young guy and didn't believe he was a leader at that point. Well, that has changed.......Exited to see how he improves going into next season. Great half/jump hook, as well, and can score against bigger players. If he can improve his ball-handling which I think is his weakness watch out..

If we are going to take it to the next level next year, Sibert and Pierre can't disappear for whole games like they did this year. Hopefully, like Archie said, his tournament performance will be the jumping off point for a vast increase in confidence. He flat took over the game against Florida for like 2 minutes during our comeback. There is no reason he can't do that much much more.

Sibert and Pierre could be extremely dangerous next year. For different reasons, they both had to feel things out for a big chunk of the season. Pierre's our best player. I put a lot of value on his ability to make the unorthodox shot in the paint. It's tough for defenders to anticipate the unusual.

It's amazing what a well-rounded offensive player he is as a sophomore. And he has no fear of big situations or bigger players inside. I love this guy.

Pierre's play was a highlight of the Elite 8 run for me because he is a soph and I hope to see him improve and grow from this experience.
A few times this year, I did not feel that he was playing anywhere near his potential that we caught at times last year. The NCAA run was an opportunity for him to shine and he did.

I too thought Dyshawn was a bit timid in the first half of the season. My thoughts are that he was giving ground and respect to 3 Seniors who were expected to lead. By January end it wasn't working. Perhaps Arch talked to him, but whatever, he became more aggressive. He had a great tournament run.

Pierre presents mismatch problems for almost every team even an elite level team like florida. You put a bigger guy on him he can use his quickness and speed to get around them. With a smaller guard he can post them up. Plus he releases the ball at such weird angles that its almost impossible to defend even if youre in a good defensive position. Were going to need him and Sibert to step up and be consistent scorers next year.

My only complaint is UD has not signed any more Canadian kids. Open the pipeline!

Stat time...
Since 1949-50, of the UD players that have played at least 4 years (3 played 5 ... that's a different trivia question...), Pierre ranks tied for 10th with Jack Sallee with 688 points through their 2nd year of playing. Chapman (All time #1-2233) is #1 with 913 points. Roberts (#4-1962) is #7 with 762 and Chris Johnson (#21-1467) is #15 with 641.
Pierre is currently 79th on the all time points list (may show up in the media guide next year depending on how far down they go...) and if he just doubles up his point total to 1376, that would put him at 25th all time in points.

Pretty crazy - especially considering that I was disappointed this year. I guess I just had really high expectations after what he showed his freshman year. Not that this year was bad for him - but it wasn't all-conference.

But there are 3 Canadian kids on the team and 2 more recruits coming... Oh wait that's women's soccer. Nevermind.

Just re-watched the Florida game and Dyshawn totally carried the Flyer team down the stretch, As Archie said afterwards, they went to him on something like 8 straight possessions and the dude delivered.
He plays like that next year and UD will be fine.

Florida took away Jordan and clamped him. That left them exposed to Pierre.
Next season, both need to be on their game.

We did exactly what we should have done in that situation. If they overdefend someone you punish them with the guys they leave ungaurded. We just didn't do it enough. If we hit a few more shots they might have come off of Sibert, he makes some threes, its a different ballgame. We could have beaten the Gators. It was a tall order but these Flyers could have done it.
