R&B info in Email to Season Ticket Holders

For those who won't get an email:

RED BLUE Scrimmage Information

Due to ongoing construction at UD Arena, there will not be a Red Blue Scrimmage with our men's and women's basketball teams this year. Also, due to various commitments, we will not hold the traditional fan engagement opportunity with the men's and women's basketball teams that takes place during the summer. Instead, UD Athletics will be hosting a Fan Festival Cookout with both men's and women's basketball teams on Saturday, Oct. 14 prior to the UD football game vs. Campbell which kicks off at 1 p.m.

Both men's and women's basketball teams will be present to sign autographs and meet with fans.

More information regarding the Oct. 14 event will be released soon.

Wow. Quite a disappointment in my opinion. Had a nice tradition and it was our first chance too see at least a glimpse of new players skills. Perhaps it is a function of the construction but still a wrong move.

Maddog: Think about it, though...wouldn't you rather have a first-class facility ready to showcase for the opening game? I certainly would. The Red and Blue game is a scrimmage and that's it. Take the facility over the scrimmage game.

Well, that's a bummer. I am looking forward to the arena improvements, though. All magic comes at a price.

Hard to plan for the unexpected in terms of a huge construction project.

The ****er would have been UD telling fans....see you at the home opener.

Instead they are doing a fan engagement event. Pretty solid. Plus it should be a good day of football.

I am old enough to remember attending a R&B at the fieldhouse in the early 2000's. Is that not a servicable facility anymore?

Trent Arena? 3 1/2 Miles away from campus. The first 3,650 get a seat. What has average attendance been in the past for R & B Game?

Just answered my own question- Looks like Trent is big enough!

The season kicked off, as it does every year, with the Red and Blue game on October 24, 2015. This is a free scrimmage and meet and greet event for the fans. An estimated 3,200 Flyer Faithful showed up for the first opportunity to see new and veteran players on the court.

No big deal. They are having a fan engagement event and an exhibition game. The construction is certainly more important than a scrimmage.

It's usually the guy sitting out a year. With no one sitting out, that physically could play, they had to cancel the game. Rumor is they invited Rogers back, but he had a muscle ache and cancelled.

This is really disappointing. Taking my daughter to this event is a tradition for us. It was better while at the field house anyway. Don't the hoops have to be up. They still do basketball camps there, right? Even if the hoops are down, put them back up or host the event at the PAC or somewhere else.

I agree the Fieldhouse could have easily added temporary hoops, but are there lines painted on the floor? Could you even get a court in there without damaging the VB playing surface? Maybe, I just don't know.

They could just put down the lines with tape if they're aren't any permanent ones down. The main issue would be if there are any plates still in the floor to bolt the baskets down to. I'm not sure if those made it through the renovations of the facility.

Personally I don't feel like it's that important to have the red/blue game and I bet the coaches are perfectly happy to just have a normal practice day.

There are no basketball lines at the old Fieldhouse. They tape some lines for basketball camps in the summer, but now we are right in volleyball season. Not going happen and it's really not worth it to set something up temporarily for hoops. You see too many guys slip on those type of things in early season tournaments, and if one of guys went down in intrasquad game like that, I can only imagine the reaction.

In previous years, the Red / Blue game was a recruiting opportunity. The game was early enough in the season to still be recruiting high school players. The fans were always interested in seeing who was sitting behind the bench. I guess that the exhibition game will have to replace this opportunity? Somehow, it does not seem as positive of an opportunity for recruiting? Ohio Dominican might turn recruits off more than anything else?

And if they did, many would cry about the lack of professionalism. I can recall one poster who insisted he could put 10K butts in seats if he was in charge of the R&B game.

So basically people are going to b**** no matter what you do.

Originally yes, but those were removed at some point. In the late 90's they had brought over 2 baskets from the arena and the team used those for practice and pickup games when the arena wasn't available. Those baskets have to be bolted down or they will tip over when somebody dunks on them.

That's only illegal in Tennessee. Perfectly legal everywhere else.
