Bobcats 2, Flyers 1
Gave up 2 early goals and could not claw back. No O'Malley either. She was injured against UC on Friday and did not play yesterday.
So far, we have given up 2 goals in every match - Marshall (exhibition), UC, and OU. That is not a good sign. Those teams are not UNC, FSU, or VT. We should hold them to a goal or less. I did not see any of the matches, so can't point fingers. It could be poor ball pressure up top, bad giive-aways in the middle, loose marking in back, or bad decisions at GK. Maybe, all of the above. Valuing possession is the single most important piece to good defending. The other team can't score if they don't have the ball.
We knew defending would be an issue this year - as it has been for the last few years. If we know it, the coaches also know it. You can be sure they will continue to work on it.
We were never going to be a serious contender for an NCAA at-large bid, so non-con losses are not killers. The non-con season must be used to put the pieces together for this team, perhaps by giving the frosh time to make mistakes and learn. We need a solid defense by the time A-10 play comes around.
