If it were me I'd take the one open scholarship and the potential Obi one and hit the transfer market in the spring for a PG and best available to slide in when the junior class is gone

We probably all want Ambrose to announce UD this Sunday for one of those schollies.

Four more days! Sunday, Nov. 17th Keon Ambrose-Hylton will announce between Dayton, Alabama, Arkansas, USC and North Carolina St.
If he wants to either start or get major minutes from Day 1 in his college career he should pick the Flyers! I believe Anthony Grant can recruit with the likes of Nate Oats, Eris Musselman, Andy Enfield and Kevin Keatts.

For those who don't want to click over, Brea signed yesterday, Blakney expected to sign Friday, Frazier next Monday.

Blakney looks like a solid shooter/slasher 3-spot. Looks like he might be able to lock down that spot nicely after Mikesell and Ibi.

Suppose we'll learn some about Grant's ability to spot talent with this class. None of Frazier, Brea or Blakney were particularly highly regarded (with Blakney's 376 in the 247 composite rankings being the top).
Grant seemed to make a good showing with Posh Alexander and got a visit from a top 100 recruit in Keon Ambrose, but didn't close the deal on any highly regarded recruits.
I imagine some will bristle at the suggestion that this is a lackluster class, but I don't think it's all that ****ing. However, they do need to produce once they get on campus, and, ideally, you'd like to see recruits with better offer sheets and higher rankings in the coming classes.

Blakney had offers from Georgetown and VCU, so he’s not chopped liver. Brea is so young, this is an offer based on potential. UMass was in the mix. Frasier had mostly MAC offers. So no, barring an unexpected commit from Ambrose, it’s not a class that knocks your socks off, but I think AG has shown a knack for finding hidden gems. Time will tell.

Brea looks 150 lbs soaking wet, but I like his handle and shot. Luke is one of those under recruited kids but again good handle and shot. Luke reminds me of a kid that Davidson would normally snag out of Indiana/Oh and never show up on our radar. I like RJ, long wing span. His mom played Collegiate ball and is a coach...I like this class.
Ambrose would turn it to gold

This class reminds me of a Don Donoher class. He would bring in solid, unspectacular players who would fill roles and grow from year one to year two to year three. He’d add a Jim Paxson, Johnny Davis, Donald Smith, Roosevelt Chapman to the stew every couple years and have a winning team on the cusp of NCAA tournament. If he could have two bell cows at the same time, he’d really have a solid tournament worthy team.
From everything I’ve read, Ambrose would be a bell cow...

Nobody wanted to give 6'3" Obi Toppin the time of day. Grant saw something others didnt. Maybe got a bit lucky in the growth spurt department. Cant bat 1.000 (Policelli) but Ive generally been pretty pleased with the guys he's brought in thus far.

Frankie may yet turn out to be a good player. He was just pressed into service when he obviously wasn’t ready for this level of competition. He really needed the redshirt year, but we couldn’t spare the body (Bobby Wehrli is the “walk-on” exception, not the rule). Time will tell.

Obi's development has been incredible since arriving but this exaggerating things a bit much. He was already 6'9" when Grant was hired and UD started recruiting him. He also reportedly had offers from Georgia, Oklahoma State, Mississippi State and Rhode Island.

Until, 1pm...I'm still crossing my fingers. Come to where you are appreciated. GO FLYERS!
Even after U.D. the Flyer Faithful will follow your career. Just ask the TBT team Red Scare on how many watched the former players.

Pretty disappointing, hard to compete against P5 schools for top tier recruits. Playing in the A10 against schools with high school gyms makes recruiting more difficult. As mentioned before, only a sustained period of success will help us get in a better league.

I agree! Like I said in an earlier post Alabama will also have 5 FWD's (4 Seniors and 1 Soph) 6'8" to 6'9" returning next season. Apparently he liked the SEC and football Saturdays in Alabama. Can't believe Nate Oats is a better coach than Anthony Grant! He may find out that winning at Alabama, a football school, might be a little tougher than it was winning at Buffalo.

As long as Oats doesn't schedule A-10 teams he may win a few.

Coincidence that yesterday North Carolina St. gets a commitment from 6'9" PF Josh Hall the 42 rated player in the class of 2020 and #2 in NC just one day after Keon announces he is going to Alabama which was also on Josh Hall's final list! Wow. these P5 schools are hard to recruit against! Bring back the Towel guy! My wife always liked him firing up the crowd.
Any one know what the next best Forward we are recruiting? Is it Tony Sanders Jr? Or is he a guard or wing?

Sanders is a wing. Not sure we're still recruiting him but we seem to keep things close to the vest so who knows for sure.

When he committed to FSU, the told him they wanted him to take a prep year before coming. He was originally supposed to be a 2019 commit. I think over time, whether because of other guys they are recruiting or whatever, he decided to reopen his recruitment.

Zim is 6'7" and 240, and had a Scout's grade of 80. He is a 3 star.
"Nwokeji also holds offers from Virginia Tech, Ohio State, Georgia Tech, Missouri, and Butler among others. He is a talented player and projects as a power conference starter in the future. Nwokeji’s not a great shooter yet..."

Zimife Nwokeji has new options, will schedule visits
“Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Boston College, DePaul, Dayton, VCU, Missouri, Michigan and Xavier… some others have inquired on him but the conversation hasn’t gone past an inquiry,” per Brantley.
Brantley also added this: “We haven’t discussed where exactly he will visit, currently his options are wide open

First order of business - a meeting with Bucky to work on pronunciation, then a spell-check upgrade . . .

former Mr Ohio and Xenia grad, Samari Curtis, is leaving Nebraska after 8 games and transferring...
He had prior verbally committed to Cincinnati and
Xavier, but went to Nebraska after both schools lost
their head coaches....
as a senior, he average over 33 points per game...
He is 6ft 4inches, guard...
did someone mention there would be an open
scholly next year if Obi leaves for the NBA?
what about Samari Curtis being a Flyer?

Samari would be a 'transfer' (not a recruit per-say) so the discussion is in the Transfer thread.
And 'yes', IMRO UD should get in touch with him.

Must be something that AG doesn't like about Samari. I've also heard from multiple people that Samari Curtis "is never, and was never, going to come to UD".

A teacher from Xenia High School told me he’s a good kid that struggles academically. It’s possible that classroom concerns outweigh his basketball ability. I hope he finds success wherever he eventually lands.

If 'classroom concerns' were applied to recruiting, we'd be in trouble. Archie Miller's recruiting depended on ignoring such. Don't get me started...

Andy, who went to my HS, Cleveland Benedictine, until this year, has verballed to Miami of OH. I felt he was trying to up his offer when he transferred this year. We will see if he can even play at UD's level.

RECRUITING NOTE: Why I think Eric Gaines should be a high-major priority
he was only about 6-foot-1 and really thin. Over the past 18 months, he’s shot up to about 6-foot-4 and probably has a 6-foot-7 wingspan. After watching him last month, not only do I think he’s a high-major talent but somebody that needs to be ranked comfortably inside the top 100 in the next update. Before the Early Signing Period, he took official visits to Dayton, Georgia State and Saint Louis. Most recently, Washington State extended an offer to the class of 2020 guard. I’m expecting more schools to jump into the mix very soon.

Do we have a scholly. We have four committed. Two seniors, Obi, and one open. A fifth would be Chase? or a transfer out?

It seems we need a point guard and a center, not more shooting guards or small forwards.

Someone from the audience asked AG his thoughts about a PG once Rodney and Jalen are gone. AG basically said that all the guys coming in next year possess the skills to handle the ball and do the "PG things"...i.e., positionless and multi-skilled.

I love that he’s recruiting 6’4”- 6’6” guys who can all play anything from the 1 to 3, and with Zimi he can also play the 4.

I fully trust AG,,but it’s worth noting that 3 of our “positionless” players are over the age of 21, have been in the system for 3 years, and are 6’5” (and built like a brick wall), 6’7” (and playing on bionic hips), and 6’9” (and an athletic freak of nature, unlike any other ever seen at UD). I’m interested to see how well “positionless” plays next year when (probably) all 3 of those players are gone.
Don’t get me wrong. I love where our program is, a mere 2 years after it was supposedly on a downward spiral unlike any since the JOB era. I’m just expecting next year to be a year of adjustment, and one question to be resolved is, “Who will play Forward?”.

No doubt. But part of being where we are today is because of the moderate size that we have (and, yes, the talent level). As much as I loved and appreciated The Magnificent Seven season, I’d rather not see another front line that goes 6’6”, 6’6”, & 6’4” any time soon (unless they have the skill levels of Michael Jordan, Jim Paxson, and Roosevelt Chapman).

I read a little about it online. The school was investigating alleged Title IX violations committed by McCarty. Apparently, they found enough “fire” within the “smoke” to determine that McCarty needed to go.

David N’Guessan has remained a top target for a handful of Atlantic 10 programs. St. Joe’s was the first to really prioritize him and might sit in the best spot. However, Washington State just offered over the weekend, and he told Rivals.com that he plans on taking official visits to Dayton and Virginia Tech in the coming weeks. VCU is also involved.

Think N'Guessan would be a big addition. He's listed as 6'8"-6'9" and has a 7-foot brother that started his career at Oklahoma State.
Obi is going to be a huge loss for the program, but I think a key going forward will be finding players like Landers and Mikesell that keep the offense fluid. It's hard to find guys that flexible, able to shoot, pass, handle the ball, defend in the post. It's the direction basketball is going, and I think Grant knows this better than most college coaches.
My hope is N'Guessan could be a longer version of a Mikesell. Given the size of his brother, there's a chance he may have a little more height in him, and you could play him at the 5 from time-to-time. He'd be a good complement to the other players coming in next year. Hope they get him on campus soon.

Several recent recruits and/or coaches close to them have commented after a player commits to UD that the Flyer coaching staff was very good at expressing how much we wanted/needed the recruit and what UDs plan was for that player.
After seeing the video that breaks down CAGs offense and how hard it is to defend, I have to think someone is complying a video for every recruit we go after that showcases what the coaches want that recruit to do in our offense. On a team that has four or five guys a night scoring in double figures, it would be easy to pull together a highlight reel focused on any position on the court. You bring in a guy you’re looking to play the 4...you tee up a video clip of what a 4 does in our offense and how that position gets a ton of opportunities to score. Not hard to showcase 30 plays where a 4 scores. If a 2 is coming in, you do the same, etc.
High school guy with big dreams or a transfer that didn’t fit at a level they expected somewhere else...seeing a video of exactly what UD sees in their future has to be addictive. Add the Flyer Faithful in a sold out UD Arena on any given night and now a Top 10 ranking...just WOW. AG & Company were already doing a great job landing recruits. I think that’s the tip of the iceberg now. Tee up the Titanic music.

Almost every school is this sophisticated with all the technology out there and their selling points to recruits. Almost all schools at least with a moderate budget have GA's and recruiting coordinators who take care of this. The big thing is just how all of this is really believable and sincerely communicated to recruits where everyone as 16-18 year olds believe they're going to play in the NBA.
One thing I'd bet heavily on with both CAG and his staff from meeting him and hearing from so many people about him, is that they have no issue with the believable part, the sincerity part and down-to-earth approach with these kids.

He also attends the same prep school Obi attended. Obi is considered a King there so I have to believe we have a leg up on recruiting.

Good catch.
Mt. Zion is in the D.C./Baltimore area, not far from Hagerstown, Maryland, where Blakney went to high school at Goretti. Probably not close enough to assume Dayton's got some kind of local pipeline in the works but interesting nonetheless.

Seems like 90% of the guys we recruit are also involved with VCU.

He's Dutch so maybe Greer can build some rapport with his time in Europe.

For anyone that's a 4/5 player that is ready and able to contribute right from the start, I just can't fathom how hard it is to make one heck of a case to get them on our squad.
- We have Obi right now, but he's going pro. You can't argue whether or not you'll get the attention you need if you are a stud. You will!
- Chase left unexpectedly and left another slot. He was very likely to be a starter all of next year.
- Jordy has a lot of development to do, and will be a SR. Frankly, I think he'd be limited on minutes anyways.
- Mouleye is a total mystery.
- Mikesell and Trey will be gone.
Basically, the pitch is "We're a serious program, recruiting serious talent, and we want YOU to fill some shoes in our front court with plenty of immediate playtime readily available. Fan base? Facilities? National recognition? We're at the top of the game on all fronts. Join us!"

I think that is a good thing. VCU has been near the top of the A10 every year.
I like the fact that we are climbing up in the recruiting ladder. I hope we can keep it going.

I agree with the technology today and the scouting software and access to every game and the ability to tagged and highlight everything, etc, it certainly helps level the recruiting playing field. What others don’t have is the offense we are running with 4-5 guys scoring in double figures every night. We’ve had very few shot clock violations this year because of our offense plus the buy-in to pass for the best shots. So we have great shots that are going in at a high rate. Others can’t show what we can show a recruit, which is a whole bunch of opportunities to get open shots and scoring opportunities.
