Oliver is the player of the game, but kudos to Kavs, who had his best game of the year. 10 pts, 5 rebounds, a block and a steal.

I will give Archie credit for putting in Kyle Davis. He is the quickest defender on the team and indeed had a blanket on Henderson. He also got the bucket to tie the game at 80 if I am not mistaken.

What in god's name is going on with our freethrow shooting though??? We were pretty solid early in the year, weren't we? I feel like at this point, Shaq could give these guys some pointers. Baffling.
I loved the way Pierre attacked the rim in the OT. It was like he kicked it up to another gear. He and Vee need to realize that they can get to the rim almost anytime they want. They need to be more aggressive. Way more aggressive.

It wasn't so much an illegal screen as it was he kneed Price knocking him to the floor. So it could be called a moving screen. Too obvious the refs had no choice but to call it.

I think we got the call partly because he demolished price and partly because his legs were so wide and knees bent that it wasn't as clean of a screen as it should be. But i'll take it. God knows we've lost plenty of games like that.

And glad he got rewarded for his tough play with the game-tying basket. The kid maybe played 4 minutes and we wouldn't have won the game without him. It's a good sign when you're end-of-the-bench guys play a big hand getting a win.

Davis is a junk yard dog. He'll stop you on defense or know the reason why. Henderson did put up the shot immediately after Davis came in to guard him and he clanked it because Davis was right there - eye to eye- with him when he let it go.
I love it.

DMO 11/14 fg's, 3/4 threes, and zero turnovers.
I think 2 of the 3 he made were banks. Sometimes there are angels in the angles. (Thanks, Rita?)

I think he was running out of time...and he knew it. He waited far too long to take it to the hoop. In all fairness to him, I "hesitantly" will give him the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps he didn't want another USC.

That is a perfect term for Davis - junkyard dog. The kid plays with an attitude and that's just what you need on a shooter like Henderson. Quickness matters!

If you watch the replay, you can see him looking at the bench for a signal as to when to go. I think Archie was gun shy after what happened in the USC game.

I agree. Both Schoochie and Davis are going to need to play quality minutes for us to survive the conference season. Price is going to be a 20-25 minute player with his bum knees. These two guys need to step up, and seeing Davis play the way he did tonight in crunch time gives us reason to be optimistic about the rest of the season.
DMO made the game winning shot, but it would have been meaningless without the Davis put back just a few seconds before.

If you only look at numbers, you are correct. But, had we been down two with a few seconds left, we would have fouled immediately instead of playing defense and getting the call the way we did. Regardless though, the main point of the message was that Davis came up big for us when it mattered, and that bodes well both for this game and for the future.

I keep thinking of a certain game in 1984 when Ed Young banked a shot in to end a game against DePaul. A game that started an incredible run to the Elite 8. Let's hope this game has the same impact on this team.

Well - if Davis doesn't tie the game Ole Miss doesn't have to run a play for the winning shot. They can just sit back and make Dayton foul with a chance to go up three or four.
It is what it is.

Updated for tonight's results . . .
The Flyers defended the three well and exploited Ole Miss' weak three point defense.
A blowout win for the Flyers if they shoot a better free throw percentage and Ole Miss doesn't go to the line 36 times.

That is incredible considering he plays quite a bit on the perimeter. It's not like he is some 6'11 center that plays only around the basket.

I'm not upset about Vee's actions. two negative things could have happened.
Drive and get pocket picked.
shoot between 6 and 12 seconds and Miss U clearly has an opportunity down the other end.
Clearly a weave or play should have been set, but with last second shots - they rarely go to plan

They may have initiated offense in a 1-4 flat set a second or two late. But no more than that and probably close to 1. You dont want a USC repeat, which is what happens if you start at 8 or 9. Or what happened to Ole Miss leaving 5 on the clock in regulation.
I think the screw up was in lack of movement out if the 1-4, including a bug coming up to screen. But then that brings in the Ole Miss screw up.
Somewhere someone mentioned Oliver having more time. Obviously he did, but I dint think he was getting a better shot. There was a guy coming up at top of key to pick him up, and defenders near the hoop. If it were someone faster with the ball, like Dillard last year, crossover and go to the hole. But with DMO pull uo and let it go.

I don't know, I wasn't in the huddle or have not been at practice. All I know is Vee was out there holding the ball staring at the coach for direction until there was 4 seconds left.

Out there holding the ball till about 5 is the right thing to do in a 1-4 set. Can argue if UD should run a 1-4 given personnel, but I prefer it.
