Maybe the entire team and the coaches can transfer. The incredible lack of effort is simply inexcusable.

What did you want him to do burn all of his TOs in the 1st half and have none for the 2nd?
I know a lot of you have said that but I think that point is worthless

nah...just he needed to use more and the one he did use came wayyy too late. you gotta call a TO 2 min in if you have to, to get in faces and try to get em fired up before it gets out of hand.
also the slow play was mind boggling...playing at st joes pace running half court sets. you can't do that down 19

One of the worst prepared games in all the years of following UD. I can't believe I actually looked forward to watching this catastrophe...

I'm surprised we're only down 19. This looks like the '68 UCLA Bruins vs. the '14 Fordham Rams so far. Haha. Archie's gonna need to work a miracle to win this one. This ain't Duquesne...

Joe's has 6 blocked shots and 4 steals, and that is in a half. You would think we are playing Syracuse.
They are only shooting 63% on their layups and we are at 27%. The shot selection in the last five minutes was pathetic and 'give up' mode.

Effort is Optional
on this team thanks to the coaches democratic approach to playing time. Quality defense is dependent on effort and this team is not up to it at any position. As long as they enjoy a country club atmosphere at practice they will battle to finish higher than middle of the A-10 pack.

Uh, yeah. If that's what it takes. No point in saving timeouts only to be down by 19 at half with the game pretty much out of reach. Where did that get him? St. Joe's had their way the entire first half and he did nothing to try and stop their momentum.

I think if things continue the way they are tonight, they have to win both of their home games. And then, if they can pull an upset at St. Louis, they could still have a shot.
I just don't think this team is nearly tough enough to do it though.

found it interesting when Alaa related Archie describing how they needed to defend Kanacevic. The FLyers did not get the memo because they did not defend him in that manner and thus he had 6 assists.

It does not matter how much we score tonight as long as we are clueless and have no intensity on defense.

the problem is this team has come out flat three games in a row, that is a direct result of a lack on court leadership

As the announcer said, "Coach Miller, how many different ways can you get upset?" The guy is so competitive this has to be so frustrating watching his key guys give no effort whatsoever on defense.

Talk about a deer in headlights, Scott. He wastes no time in making an effortless bad play. Why is he given playing time over Gav? It sends the wrong message.

SJU was ready and motivated and punched the Flyers in the mouth right when the game started. They are a good team with veteran players and they came ready to fight.

Really don't know what to say......
but I'd play Robinson backed by Alex G. and keep Kav and Scott on the bus uneil needed for foul purposes.
and in first 5 minutes of game and a team is slicing my man def for layups I'd try a zone for a while until we got ourselves together on the off end.

Alaa says "where's the fight from Dayton? You're getting beaten by 30 and you're just taking it in stride". Just bending over and taking it. Happens way too often.

Wow, that kind of night. A freshman big guy throws in a 3 from about half court and we miss layup after layup.

The truth hurts. Not enough guys on this team have the "fight" in them.
And frankly, when there are 10,000 people ponying-up an average of @ $700 a seat to support THIS?!
THAT AIN'T RIGHT!!!!!

I am over my upset tonight. We blew this season by letting St Joe beat us at home on the last second 3, then this one would not matter so much. I am still upset about that and USC

...But you're not AM, so it won't happen. Just hit the showers...get back in your street clothes...put your stuff out for the managers to put back on the bus...so you can make the trip to the airport and take your charter flight home...so you can go back to your comfy off-campus apartment at the end of the night...
TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!!!

The softness seems to be ingrained into the UD basketball culture at this point.

not sure it is softness. It was more a lack of focus and attention to detail. SJU could break down the defense without even swinging the ball, all it took was a screen and a cut. No effort no focus, considering what was on the line it is more than a little disappointing.

Talk about mailing it in. Poor excuse for a team tonight. I would have played AG and all the freshmen and walk-ons; at least they would have shown effort

The worst part about it is how badly we got blown out. I could have lived with a loss if we played well and were competitive, we would still have a good opportunity to finish strong. Now after that pathetic performance you ought as well stick a fork in this season, we will be lucky to win another game.

If that is his rationale, then he and Bucky might as well stay home and not travel to St. Louis. I can't imagine what a team like that will do to this crap we had to witness tonight.

Shot 32% and took 22 threes, and some people say we need more guards. We had no inside presence on offense or defense and Oliver (11 rebounds) graduates. We are in deep doo doo next year. St Joe's, like other teams, challenged us to go inside and then blocked the shot or forced us to miss. On defense they ran that pick and roll so many times I will see it in my sleep. We may have stopped it twice.
Kav is good sometimes, Robinson and Gav are forwards and Scott is clueless.

soft is getting pushed around. Lazy is the word I use. They didn't have the mindset that they would work if 35 seconds on defense every possession if that is what was needed.

That is why these last 4 games were so important. They have/had a chance this year. I don't see how they have any chance of sniffing the tourney next year.

the problem moving forwards is on most nights the play of the bigs has been a disaster, hard to see that getting better next year unless Archie pulls a rabbit out of the hat.

Is this team really worth posting about? Wow - that was bad, it was like we were a buy game for St. Joe's. I would have thought they would have come in with a chip on their shoulder.

Nobody showed anything on defense. It appears to be a systematic program-wide problem rather than any individual players...

This game was over at the half. When was the last time a UD team scored 61 points in one half? What, of the remaining 3 regular season games, does UD have a shot a winning? I don't see any. Not the way they are playing at the start of games.

defense?
I coached a little girls varsity basketball. Certainly a far cry from mens' division I college, but, it doesn't take a genius to know when your team cannot stay in front of their man and give up lay up after lay up, how about at least thinking about a little zone.
Refusing to adjust to your personnel is just plain stupid.
I am sooooooo tired of following Dayton basketball teams that never seem to get better as the season unfolds. That, to me, is what good coaches do.

I would love it if the next practice would begin with Dr. Curran addressing the team to let them know how embarrassed he was to see that lack of effort (with a national TV, to boot), and that such a lack of effort in the future wouldn't be tolerated.
That's assuming he was truly embarrassed by that display tonight...
And that he'd be willing to back-up his words with actions...
