I agree with this, but seems like a very hard task to fill this role. Any incoming freshman PG will play behind Mali for 3 years. A transfer PG would likely never become a starter. And we've already got a combo guard, so we really do need a pure PG. A grad transfer may be the only route, if they're looking to play for a contender and a good post grad education.

I think an offensive minded high school PG or a better ball handling combo (think Rodney, Ramond Marshall) could be enticed. Assuming Dayton is winning a lot of games there's gonna be late scenarios where multiple sure handed ball handlers are needed. Plus the minutes behind and alongside Mali
If it's the veteran transfer route there's surely a smaller conference guy who might want to get a start on grad degree, a coaching career or just play for a winner and go the tourney his last year (s)
Think a Ryan Bass type who's fine being a depth guy. Guy won't be all conference player but could be a solid depth guy

Thanks, not finding it.
Somehow this kids game does not translate into higher offers, which is probably what he is waiting for. Maybe when the transfers hit from tourney teams things will happen for him.
He does have a Purdue offer. Maybe waiting for UK or OSU offer.

I think that is the answer…get a solid, consistent PG from a lower conference who is a grad transfer. Someone who wants to play a role for a team that should go to the dance. A team that plays in front of 13K every home game. A guy who wants to play in the Bahamas in November. There is a lot to offer the right guy.

Agreed plus you never know if you get a power conference guy who was buried on the depth chart
Foster Loyer when from an afterthought at Michigan State to an all conference guy

Given a choice, I’d rather have a starter from a lower conference who is looking for the “trappings” of playing for UD than a guy from a power conference who hasn’t started and wants to start. I’d rather bet on Mali than getting into a ****in’ contest on who will be the starting PG.

Rolf is 6'7" and a solid 205 already, and can guard any position on the floor, sounds exactly like the kind of guy Grant likes.
Centerville just beat St Ignatius in the state semi-final........by 31 points, 64-33. Haven't seen the box score yet on how Rolf did.
Gabe Cupps was named Ohio Mr Basketball today though. Indiana is getting a good one in 2023.

Rolf had 12 points, and Centerville sat their starters the 2nd half of the 4th quarter while there was a running clock

Watched the game and I would say Rolf played about half the game due to the score. I’ve never seen this before in a state semifinal game, but they had a running clock after Centerville got up by 35.

New name, SG DJ Jefferson
Was committed to Tulsa but opened it back up. 6’5 SG playing in Minnesota. 114 in rivals rankings for 22
“Arizona State reached out,” Jefferson said. “Miami reached out. Wichita State and Dayton, too. A lot of schools."

You realize that Ramod Marshall “type” - while I’d be thrilled to have someone like Ramod as a backup pg - was easily one of the top pg’s to ever play AT Dayton. I think St. Peters proved this year you can never have too many guys with solid handles. That should be the criteria of any recruits going forward. Mali went down and poof went Dayton’s season.

Just a quick glance on his background
He’s praised for shot blocking
Shot 34% from 3 in high school
Might be tough for him to get minutes early here but could be a good developmental guy

If you want to watch highlights from the above game go to youtube.com and put in Crespin's full name. He has a complete game and shoots the three ball with accuracy.
He is extremely active and handles the ball on almost every offensive possession. His number is 84. At 6'9" 240lbs, he is only 17 years old and won't be 18 until September 3 of this year. From France, he would be a great addition to add to our frontcourt!

I'm told that 2022 guard Devin Carney (@devin24carney_) has heard from UCSB, UCF, Temple, Duquesne, San Diego, Tulsa, Dayton, Davidson, Colgate, Miami Ohio, William & Mary, & Saint Mary’s since reopening his recruitment.
St. Bonaventure has offered the former Elon commit.

Here is an in-depth analysis of Shawn Phillips’ game from an NC state recruiting site after he committed:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=DMRzkMVcGg0
UD was in his consideration set until he cut it down to a final 3, choosing the Wolf Pack. Interesting to see if AG will pursue him.

How tall is Shawn? He is listed as 6'9', 6'10", 6'11" and 7'.
The kid is a project. He would be a great backup to Holmes for a year or two, but I doubt he is that realistic about his skillset.
His back to the basket skills would work best at Purdue.

Here’s another highlight tape of Shawn. He looks a lot thinner and more mobile than his Belmont days or even when he was at Ypsi Prep.
