Fordham to BE
Just announced - Fordham has been offered membership in the new Big East.
This totally unexpected move seems to stem from a sentiment among the BE bottom dwellers that an even worse team might make them look marginally better, though Creighton complained about distance issues and the Marquette brass questioned Fordham's Jesuit credentials.
The A-10 will look south to fill the void left by Fordham's departure - it is rumored an invitation has been extended to Georgia Tech, if they promise to drop football and upgrade their rowing facilities. What is certain is nothing is certain in this day and age.

Grorgia Tech would be a minor upgrade from Fordham. And that would be just like the NBE huh?

I am greatly saddened by this news. I always looked forward to our matchups' with Fordham after interacting with several of their many fans who pack the stands every home game making me feel like I was apart part of the home crowd despite me being a flyer fan several years ago. I loved seeing Fordham's teams play due to their aggressive defensive approach and their clutch 3 point shooting which always felt satisfying after Dayton beat them. I would like to add that I want to schedule them annually in our OOC schedule so that we get to build our rivalry that we have built with them over the years. I also have found the link to the live stream for an official announcement which will be at 12:30 EST.

In another development Dayton has scheduled a home and home with Wright State. They will play two games a year, one being on MLK day (because playing on MLK day right in the middle of conference play is smart scheduling) and picked up by ESPN.

Well you were right, but the games were going to be on ESPN 8- The Ocho. Anyhow the American Dodgeball Association of America protested having the reruns of the yearly tournament preempted, so the WSU- UD deal is now off.

Fordham to the Big East makes perfect sense to me.
1. Shows that the Big East is always looking long-term not for the short-term profit of allocating the current TV contract among fewer shcools.
2. For most of the schools in the New Big East travel would be less than adding on some school like Gonzaga. St John's team sould hp the subway and Seton Hall could take a metro train. Villanova and Georgetown would be just an Acela ride away from the competition.
3.St Johns could make its home at the Barclay Center while Forham could play all its games in the MSG. The two teams would have a monopoly on New York Basketball.
4. There is a natural rivalry between the two city schools. After all we all know that rivalry between two schools from the same city is the be all and end all of college basketball.
5. It would mean all New York players would want to stay home and play for one of the two powerhouses, improving the quality of Big East Basketball to the extent they would be playing at the next level.
6. Of course they will need another school to keep the league even and I can only hope it is Albertus Magnus in Connecticut; as the Big East needs a New England presence to complete its identity as The Conference.

There is absolutely no truth to this story. I know that Fordham refused to take any deal that did not include their partner school Duquesne. Catholic schools are always loyal to each other.

Probably because of the new 15,000 seat arena that Fordham is building. With equal grants from Ford Motor Co. and Hormel.
