Crosstown NIT Matchup
WSU loses to NKU. UD can’t beat VCU. First round NIT? That might be fun.
Enjoy....

I’m sure there’s a 5 year old WSU-UD thread I missed. Apologies.

But can we play that game if it’s not scheduled for MLK Day?

Here are a few other teams UD couldn't beat: Kansas, North Carolina, LSU, Oklahoma. Washington, Ohio State, Syracuse, Stanford, Notra Dame...
but got lucky and did!

Wright State
will be playing a #1 seed on the road. UD would probably play at Xavier or Indiana/Ohio State if they fail to win the A-10 Tournament at the Barclay's Center.

I have read in NIT#4 UD vs #5 XU
Wouldn't 4 host 5 on Thurs after the First 4?

I have zero interest in ever hearing that UD may play WSU in a basketball game. I don't want to hear it, mention it, imagine it, ever...
Sidenote - DRatings has us currently as a 4 seed in the NIT. IU is a #1 seed, Davidson #3, _avier #5.
So we'd be playing either X, ETSU, Fresno St, or Utah Valley? (I had to look them up) if things hold true.
Fingers crossed our Flyers are dancing.

I wonder if a first round NIT game has ever sold out? Certainly X at UD would threaten that. That would be a nice consolation prize if we don't win the next 3. Would prefer the NCAA but this would be fun.

I believe UD vs Penn State in 1998 sold out. Best Flyer crowd I ever witnessed. But that wasnt first round. I think we played LIU Brooklyn first with Charles Jones, then someone else second. If I recall the PSU was. Qtrfinal game to reach MSG?

PSU was second round, that is correct. That crowd was as crazy as any I've been a part of. It felt like a rebirth as the Flyers hadn't tasted post season success since 1990. They would have won the Penn State game but for Calvin Booth's 10 blocks.

So since we are playing this what if hypothetical game, if UD would play WSU, yet the game has to be played at the "Parking sucks and sit in your car for 45 minutes after the game Nutter Center" in lieu of UD Arena due to the NCAA, would all 238 WSU fans still ***** about us having a home game since we would be wearing our home white unis?

There were 13,409 fans at that Penn State game. I believe 13,521 was a sellout for a regular season game, but that could have been a sellout with the seats taken away for media. Jarrett Stephens said it was the best place he had ever played, beating any place in the Big Ten. After the game one writer said to another, "Maybe these people will finally shut up." It was one of the loudest crowds I have ever been a part of. Has to be in the Top 5 in the Arena along with games like Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, and Zavier.

Couldn’t Resist
I had to start the thread since the topic makes some people crazy.
I understand that matchup does nothing for UD but it was fun for the city. Watching Chris Daniels dunk on Vitali Potapenko then walk him down is one of my favorite memories.

I remember the PSU game, if only because it was one of 6 games (high school and college) I attended in 8 days, then flew to Vegas for training on the 9th day.

Didn't Booth have a triple double? Only one ever against UD that I am aware of. Maybe Oscar Robertson....

I remember, although I'd like to forget, the WSU game in 1990. Actually a great basketball game but not a good result for UD.

Double-double. 19 points and 10 rebounds. According to the box score, Penn State had 19 assists and Crispin had 11. By the way, Perryman had 21 points and 16 rebounds.

Forgot about blocks. The box score doesn't list them. That's a lot of blocks!

Didn’t Cole Aldrich have a triple-double against us for Kansas in the 2009 NCAA Tournament? I think he blocked either 10 or 12 shots that day. But Booth earned his blocks. All Aldrich had to do was wait for our guys to go straight at him, and then reach up. Frustrated the h@ll out of me, and reminded me of the old Sinatra song “High Hopes”.

I don't have the box score, but I have the play by play. 10 blocks, 13 points, 20 rebounds.

I think Aldrich committed about 7 fouls that game.

I welcome a game, home or away, against either X or WSU. I would enjoy beating X more however.

I would treat this like any non-con game or preseason tournament, maybe less so. I want UD to win, but if they lose its not like it is going to affect their tourney chances. You know, the tourney that actually matter.s

After we lose tonight, we will be playing Xavier at Cintas. Mark it down.
