Duquesne Game Thread
The biggest game of the year! Win, get that important 1st round bye in the A10 tourney, but also win and we could most likely be in the tourney.
Charles Little Thank You!!!!
GO UD! Finish off the perfect home season!

Ha! Derrick Dukes says if Dayton wins, they get a 2 seed in the A10 Tourney. Do the research! If we win we get a 3 seed. Lose and get the 5 and face Charlotte on Wednesday.

1) I'm watching the stream on channelsurfing.net, they have the whio tv video but larry and bucky on audio anybody else have that?
2) Does whio tv just simulcast the radio feed. I thought i saw tv announcers who are they? (sorry if that sounds stupid remember i havent been to dayton in almost 20 years)

WOW. That's all i gotta say about that charge. You couldn't find an easier charge call in all of college hoops. Unbelievably bad call.

We have to take better care of the basketball. 3 or 4 TO's already. I get scared every time they trap ST.

CW jacking threes is a receipe for a loss.
Nice start by Kurt as usual.

We look terrible right now. BG might need to call a TO and get in these guys faces. We're not being aggressive on offense AT ALL. We need to attack the rim. None of this jumpshooting crap and fadeaways. Make some cuts. Fill that space at the elbow and attack. We just aren't doing what has gotten here. No rebounding on either end and no D.

Do these refs know what a charge is? Both LW and KH were planted on the ground two steps before contact. Incredible.

On that last offensive rebound DU got, the only guy for the flyers who blocked out was KH. We're just not doing what we do. Really frustrating. We better get our acts together.
Nice rebound for charles.
We need to POUND the boards.

Luke is playing okay. He moved his feet on D and kept a rebound alive for us to get. He can stay in front of these guys unlike the other night where Xavier was to athletic and strong for him.
Keep it up LF

I think part of our problem rebounding is that we're switching on everything on the defensive end. We don't usually do that. It's making it harder for our guys to know who they should be blocking out i think.
We're starting to look better though.

CJ needs to finish that play with his Right hand. He had an opening on the right side of the rim to lay it in but went to his strong hand instead. Freethrows are going to kill us. Come on CJ. Put this freebie in.

He needs to go sit on the bench if all he is going to do is shoot fadeaway jumpers. At least he fit a free throw.
We don't really need him tonight anyway. He doesn't really match up well with any of these guys.

When the guards get broken down and the bigs have to provide help defense that opens up the backside for offensive rebounds.
How the heck did Luke make that 3? It just died on the rim!

Getting beat to death on D, missed that 1 and 1, had that 3 blocked for an easy dunk... If he doesn't show up we are up by a bunch.

Sad that this is the best we have after LW. He's not able to play at the A10 level on a consistant level. Wonder if we could do better with MJ and either MP or PW bring it up?

Luke HAS to improve on D because we will need his 3 point shooting over the course of his career. He can present some serious matchup problems for other teams.
But, he HAS to learn to play good D (especially against better teams) b/c of his shooting ability!

Like I said earlier the perfect thing to do is to bench KH and play Luke at center. He can play when there is someone on the other team who he can guard who is not a threat.
Way to go Luke!!!!!!!!

This is not unusual for HS scoring studs to have trouble adjusting to needing to play hard-nosed defense. I think he will improve over time and can definitely present some matchup issues.
Wow, from a nip and tuck game to a 13 pt lead -- on Luke's back -- what a great way to finish the half!

Fantastic finish to the half! Maybe Luke has got everyone else going. Come out the second half and bury them!

19-6 run to end the half, larry and bucky said in the break if we hit ft's we'd be up 20
we needed that run badly. 20 more min like the that and punch that dance ticket

Wow, 49 first half points. And i thought WE were playing badly on defense. Wow.
Charles and Luke were huge. Let's finish this thing with an exclamation mark. I want to see walkons by the end of this. Let's go boys.
On the down side, our blocking out and freethrow shooting continue to regress. That has got to get fixed or we're doomed. If we werent' shooting so well, we'd be in DEEP DEEP trouble right now.

Yep, that was the biggest adjustment for me (as it is for most kids coming out of HS). But man, if/when he learns to play solid D (needs to work on foot speed), he is going to be dangerous. I love a good shooting big man!
Excellent last 10 minutes of the half (got to police up free throws and rebounding)!

Be Breezy! Let it fly!
Wow! Well, what can you say? How about that first half performance from Luke Fabrizius. I found myself saying a number of times in that final 6 minutes of the half," No, No, No ... Yes!!!!!" The sad part is that we'd probably have a 25 point lead if we make free throws and do a better job on the defensive glass.
Luke Fabrizius has 15 points and the senior Charles Little has 10 points. In the second half, we have to tighten up the defense, keep the tempo reasonable, and protect the basketball at all costs. An undefeated home season is now just 20 minutes away.

Hey, he did knock a ball out of bounds while playing D, almost a steal, well sort-of.

What a difference a day makes. We had some bozos after the X game saying Luke should transfer and he is not a D1 player and he will never play because of his poor D. How about that great denial of a pass he made near the Dayton bench? Then of course there were the guys saying he is the next Jimmie Binnie. I really liked Binnie, but did he ever shoot 5 of 6. Luke has such a quick release and at 6'9", he cannot be stopped if he shoots smoothly and with confidence. I love this frosh class.

Halftime message to BG
BG don't start pulling the ball and stalling with 12 minutes left in the game.

rasta, that would be Carl Day, not Carl Nichols.

Unfortunately from an A10 seeding perspective, no. But if we win tonight, we tie URI with the same conference record, but they win the tourny seeding tiebreaker and so RI gets the #2 seed.

The good: Luke, Charles, 13 assists on 17 baskets. Amazing.
The bad: we've given up 8 offensive boards. We have only 2. And we are of course 7-14 from the line.

It's not easy to stay online and follow the game from a third world country(excuse me that isn't PC -- developing country), but I love my Flyers. One question: All who had been hoping for a Luke breakout game like this, raise your hand.
Let's go undefeated at home and make noise in Atlantic City.

X did lose. Nothing will change if we win.
3-way tie for 2nd b/w URI, Dayton, and Temple at 11-5.
Looking at head-to-head overall records
URI - 2-1
Dayton - 1-1
Temple - 1-2

Unbelievable!!! The guy FINALLY shoots like he is supposed to and he is a great player all of a sudden. Like I say w/ KH on the games where he actually plays DECENT, because he never plays extremely well....If LF shot like he is tonight every night I could live w/ his lack of defense. But let's be honest, he doesn't!

Luke upped his season 3pt% by three points in that first half. Crazy. He's up to 37.4% now.
