Some good info in there. Rumor from URI board that he wanted to go to Georgetown but offer didn't materialize. Georgetown was listed as having interest though so wonder if this is a kid who Anthony Solomon has been in touch with and built a relationship.

Noticed he has an offer from Jacksonville State, which is a great sign. If Ray Harper likes him enough to offer him, he must be good.

He's rated slightly better than McKinley. UD offered him a year ago...he settled for Pitt and we eventually signed McKinley.

The only issue with Thompson is that UD needs PGs who can play this season. Gotta get grad transfers, jucos, or freshmen so they can play next year.
Edit: I was wrong he would be an incoming Freshman. Thanks Oke88

Couple of tweets relevant to Dayton:
@coreyevans_10 Illinois has offered 2017 @MtZionPrep forward Obadiah Toppin
@coreyevans_10 Former Dayton signee Nahziah Carter may no longer want a prep year. City Rocks wing showing major upside & versatility early on

Definitely UD has interest in Frankie Hughes as a transfer.
Some interest in Malcolm Nicholas III as a 4 year guy but to what degree I don't know.

Nahziah Carter thought about AG's advice to prep for a year, for mere days before changing his mind. Now if that doesn't seem like the classic brush-off by AG? Hope AG can do better because he'll never be a Flyer now..

I didn't see where AG told him to prep, that was his discission as from his mother's tweeting on this. One he is 16 won't turn 17 til this summer. Hell he was going to prep until he committed to Archie

Seems to me a mutual accord was made between AG and NC to prep for a year. If AG wanted him he'd be here. I was referring to the end of that tweet where it notes his development. Accounts I read had NC developing nicely until Archie left for IU. I hope AG can replace him with a comparably talented player.

Everyone needs to remember that even with Wright, Carter, Davis, and Pierce, UD's recruiting class was not ranked in the top 100. There seemed to be a ton of potential, but nothing that was sure.

Will be interesting to see how AG's recruiting classes end up ranking. Going to guess it could take a few years though, as he hasn't been recruiting for several years and everyone is new to UD.

Agree it'll be interesting to compare recruiting rankings in a few years. But one of Archie's strengths was player development, so it's not as important where they start as where they finish. But if they come in the door more highly ranked, I'll take that. To clarify, it hasn't been "several years" since AG recruited. It's only been two. I think he'll remember.

Not the overall ranking, but as I recall Scoochie and Kyle were both around 120. Not sure about Kendall. I think the first Top 100 player Archie got (other than transfers) was Kostas (around 89).

Kyle Davis was a three-star by most services, though Scout had him ranked 99 and a four-star: http://www.scout.com/player/155266-kyle-davis
Same was true of Scoochie, though Rivals was the outlier and had him a four-star at 106: https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/26083
Kendall Pollard was a three-star both with Scout and Rivals: https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/49278
And yes, Rivals had Kostas at 89 and a four-star: https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/4796

It's not the number of stars that carried the most weight with Archie. The whole deal was his consistent ability to turn them into a dedicated True Team. It will be interesting to watch what he recruits to Indiana, where the fans whine if the recruit isn't a celebrated Steve Alford in HS.

True, but it helps to have those stars too. Jordan Sibert was a four star recruit ranked #39 in the country. We won five NCAA Tournament games with him, and none after he left. Stars don't mean everything, but I would rather turn a bunch of 4-stars into a True Team than a bunch of 3-stars. I'm hoping that AG will be able to get some higher rated recruits AND coach them up.

As has been said a billion times....Archie will have more obligations at IU. He will have to hob nob with donors, admin and alumni exponentially more then when he was here. As Chris has stated, the current and previous AD did their best to minimize the crap he had to deal with.
He was KING in this town. His shortcomings were overlooked and excused. WE LOVED HIM. He could do no wrong. The Admin wanted to pay him in the Top 10. Not in the state, not in the A-10, not in the Non-Power 5.....THE ENTIRE FREAKING NATION.
Archie now enters a pressure cooker where he will be under the microscope. First NIT year or underperforming season under huge expectations and the sharks will circle.
The grass is rarely greener on the other side.

Can we move on from the "True Team" marketing slogan since we have a new coach? It was an Archie thing and it's time to move on.
And the whole "Are you the 6th" marketing they did was kind of silly too.

Carter update from Rivals
Recruitment: Just reopened after signing to Dayton in the fall; schools that have reached out including Georgetown, Georgia Tech, UMass, Indiana and Boston College.
His day: Despite his inability to find the hoop on his 15-feet and out jump shots, Nahziah Carter was still impressive as he scored at the basket on highlight dunks and defended more than two spots on the floor; he finished with 13 points and three rebounds in the win.
Quote: “I plan to go to college this summer and prep school is an alternative, just in case I don’t get the right fit, but my plan is to go to college this year.”
Prediction: Way too early to tell as Boston College is the only program that has offered since backing off of his original commitment.

I'm not saying erase it from history. I'm just hoping that the team and marketing department moves on from using it anymore in the future since UD has a new coach now.

According to Jon Rothstein Dayton has interest in former Pitt commit Aaron Thompson. He is a 6'1 PG out of Fairfax VA. VCU, Butler, and Georgetown are also after him.

take this FWIW but a VCU "insider" on the A10 board seems to think they have the inside track
Fairfax is Anthony Soloman's wheelhouse. Would be nice to pull him away from them

VCU fans think they have the inside track for every recruit. Unfortunately, they have been on a roll when it comes to recruiting the last few years. They have beat us out for multiple players the last few years.

Just every recruit? Did you forget that they have the best band, arena, city, concession stands, fan websites, water fountains, and fan who wears ram horns and sings the national anthem better than it has ever been sung before. I just can't believe you left all that out!
I do agree with them on one thing though. Their dance team is top notch!

He might have played PG in HS, but he's being recruited as a 2 guard from everything I've seen.

And Obadiah's game looks very much in the mold of Xeyrius and Kostas. Freakish athleticism and long with the agility to run and defend any and every position on the floor. You probably can't have enough of those types to play the way Anthony Grant wants to play.
Also, he can play some tight end.

So Boston College is the only place that wants him for 2017 right now? Interesting. I knew his original plan was to prep due to his being really young and not having a ton of offers until Dayton talked him out of that original plan. So I really figured he just decided to go back to the original plan to see how things would play out, but if he actually wants to go to college to this year, makes you wonder if Grant didn't really want him for 2017 either. Also, surprised of no mention of Syracuse. Figured they would probably be one he was talking to (via Griffin) about 2018.

I read it as Grant wants him still but since his stock went up this year I think he's waiting to see if he can get a big time Power 5 offer. Everything I've read about his AAU performance last weekend is that he really raised his profile

Grant was just quoted in the DDN saying they "were still pursuing some of the guys" Archie signed. So I think "some" has to mean McKinley and Naziah (and not Svoboda where Jablonski has already reported no contact), but pursing Carter for 2017, 2018, or either or is anyone's guess I guess.

That's how I took it as well ... that the prep talk was his idea to go "bigger" next year. If that's the case, I don't think he ends up here regardless of other offers. But Mom seems to like UD, and if he clicks with AG or one of the assistants, who knows.

“We are really excited to add Nahziah to our recruiting class,” coach Archie Miller said in a press release. “We evaluated him during most of July, and even though there was a chance he would reclassify his recruiting because of his young age in relation to others in his class. We offered him in hopes he would be willing to come to us as a 2017 recruit."
“This is a great get for Dayton,” City Rocks President Jimmy Hart said. “The good thing for him is he’s a smart kid. He gets it. He’ll develop more under coach (Archie) Miller than he would in a prep school. Longer term this is a better decision for him. He’s a good student. He wants to go to college. He didn’t really want to go to prep school. A lot of people said to him, ‘Oh Naz, you’re only 16. The other kids are 17 or 18. You’re a perfect candidate.’ And he is. But some kids are trying to find a way to game the system. ‘If I do this, I’ll be ranked higher.’ Naz isn’t about that.”

He's not coming to Dayton, but I can't imagine his mom-- who seems to be quite involved in his recruitment -- wants to watch Naz head 2,500 miles away to play ball.

Question on Svodoba... it certainly looks like AG is taking a pass on him, although it hasn't been confirmed. Does the University have any obligation to Svodoba? He hasn't signed a LOI, but did Dayton make an offer in writing that they'd have to honor? Not that Svodoba would be likely to come to a place that doesn't want him - just curious about how things work. I realize he isn't guaranteed a spot on the team (coaches can offer more slots than they have), but is he guaranteed a scholarship if he has an offer in writing from Dayton?

Minor update on Latravian Glover: one of his coaches there in South Miami, Michael "Miggy" Martinez, retweeted the Glover news. I clicked his profile and see a pending friend request between Dayton coach James Kane (who protects his tweets so not publicly visible) and Martinez. Leads me to believe the coaching staff is at least doing their due diligence on this guy. So definitely a name worth monitoring.

But what about the many posts on players we are not recruiting but you apparently think we should be. It appears you just want to show how many players we are missing out on, as if AG and staff aren't doing their job.

I agree it says something but don't read too much into it. By the same logic the fact that they asked for releases also speaks very negatively about the merits of UD on its own, and I don't accept that as true.

The growing interest in Naz Carter, McKinley Wright and, if he had made himself available, Jordan Davis shows how weak most of these recruiting services really are. At one point I believe I read on here that UD's class before all the shake up was below 100.
My theory is once a player commits to a school like Dayton, they have peaked as far as the rating services go. Other commits jump them not on talent but by where they end up going to school. These services also never capture improvements from late bloomers or even capture the worth of a team player since most judgements are made during the "all about me" AAU circuit.
I would say they are not worth the paper they are printed on but that just shows my age...

If I had to choose I don't think it says anything about about the merits, or lack of, of UD, alot about AM's recruiting/eye for talent, and even more about the relentless work ethic that AM and his staff had and realizing the strategy they needed to deploy by eyeing it early, establishing the relationship, and getting the commit. No way AM is getting either of these kids real late in the process or, rather, after the hurd starts, the way many schools could...
One thing about Archie is just about every kid he gets there's a pretty major flaw that is evident. He gets Scoochie who was thin as a rail, not a great athlete, but gets in on him early. He goes after KD who was a 6' guard with little PG skill even in HS, he gets KP who, again, has no shooting skills but is a 6'6" forward who was 2nd fiddle (but the real glue) on his HS team. There are plenty of others but AM sees thru this and realizes the work needed to mold and shape these under-the-radar kids. Big -time programs don't go after these guys nearly as hard as they normally get a kid far closer to the finished product in either in skill-set or physicality.

Did you just imply that UD should be able to recruit kids with no major flaws?

Sort of...
From the same article:
"It’s the best fit for him,” Al Harris, said Wright’s mentor and coach. “His decision came down to fit and trust amongst the coaching staff. He chose a program with a coach that has a similar personality and a winning community!"

So if the only reason they were committed to UD was Archie, and they left when Archie left, how is that not a negative commentary on UD generally?

First off, because "they" does not mean the entire class has left as at least two of them are staying and possibly 1-2 others may not even be wanted by the current staff. Secondly, while philosophically recruits should commit first and foremost to the actual school, we know that's not a reality in most cases. Recruiting is mainly all about comfort and relationships and that's usually with current players, recruits, but mainly the coaching staff.

My exact point. It's definitely what his angle is...there's another guy we aren't getting!!

I agree ...most of these guys "we aren't getting" are likely not wanted by AG and his staff... and you and I will never know that for sure!

Leads me to believe the coaching staff is at least doing their due diligence on this guy. So definitely a name worth monitoring.

How about this quote from then Oklahoma State coach Brad Underwood when he signed
“We really feel that Latravian was one of the top prospects in the state of Florida prior to having an ACL knee injury,” said Underwood. “It’s not fair for me to say this, but he’s a guy who has kind of like a Lebron James-type game; big, strong and extremely high basketball IQ.
“He’s a very good athlete that is not back at 100-percent yet, but he can shoot it, handle it and score in the paint. I think he has the opportunity, when healthy, to be as good of a player as there is in this league. Athletically and physically, he’s just a specimen. He is a guy who can play multiple positions, has tremendous IQ and has great feel of the game. His best days are in front of him, and we’re excited to have him.”

2018 Ridgeway (TN) G Jalen Crutcher has received an offer from Dayton. @jalen_norose1 http://verbalcommits.com/players/jalen-crutcher …
He's in 2017 and said he'd go to prep for 2018 but hopefully we talk him into Dayton. Former UT-Chattanooga commit to McCall when he was there

Got a good feeling about this kid possibly coming aboard soon. I think Kane recruited him at Murray State. Very good chance he is Dayton's starting PG next year I think.
