Here is why UD beats Mercer tonight

  • Our ball pressure will wear on them, especially at the PG spot
  • Our depth will wear on them
  • We know they can rebound and will be prepared
  • They have not played in an environment like UD Arena
    • @ Bama – 8,960 attendees
    • @ Auburn – 4,558 attendees
    • @ G. Tech – 3,304 attendees
    • @ Dayton – 12,900 attendees

Welcome to the Dayton Decibel Dungeon!!! Lets show Mercer what a real college basketball arena is all about!!

Lets get Flyered up!!

that could be right. i think in first half if we can jump out to a 6-10 point lead or hold a 2-3 point lead, the second half we turn up the D pressure and we're too much for them.

If somehow this gets into run and gun, and i think Mercer scored some pts in 3 of the 4 games, it could get more interesting.

Big game tonight and week for Flyers.........

Your thoughts............

How will we rebound vs. tougher opposition?

Can we score enough to win vs. teams that can better handle the pressure and thus we don't get all the easy scoring opportunities off opponents turnovers?

In other words, how will we perform in a half court offense?

GO FLYERS!

How good is our pressure D?

So far our opponents have not been good ball handling teams. Obviously if Mercer beats bama and Auburn on the road, they are a good team. This will be a test to see if our D can hold up to better competition.

I'm not good with number crunching, but I do like to read about stats, facts, and figures. According to kenpom.com ( http://kenpom.com/factors.php?t=d&s=5 ), we are #1 in the nation in turnover efficiency. Our opponents are turning the ball over about 35% of their possessions. That is nuts. I'd love to see that kept up. Should be a fun game tonight.

Mercer is not a good ball-handling team. They are turning it over 19 times a game. However, they attack the glass like Jim Baron's teams used to - with 4 players, a tire iron and sixer.

Rebounding is the #1 priority tonight. Beat Mercer on the glass and you beat Mercer.

I expect UD to struggle in the half-court tonight. Mercer defends very well.

Still, Dayton will get easy scoring opportunities. Mercer has too many players that turn it over.

I don't think we will have the rebounding edge we have had the last two games, but we will likely hold an edge. We have quite a bit of our rebounding power from last year still intact on this team.

I am looking forward to seeing how we act in the half court offense. This has not been a strong aspect of our game this year. Since we do have some players hitting the outside shots, we may be able to open up the middle a little bit. Hopefully we can get some hi low post action going as well.

I think we out rebound them tonight because Chris Wright was embarrassed with the Wofford game. I don't see the team letting each other down again. That and I think we are the better team. We are always very prepared for a team with 1 guy who dominates the scoring.

One more thing...

I think we can wear them down as they only have an 8 man rotation.

The only way we win - score in transition. Our half court offense has been dismal. They turn the ball over - we force turnovers. We can't miss bunnies after turnovers like we did in our first 2 games. I think we win if we can keep rebounding close to equal.

I totally agree. And their PG would not be classified as an "effecient" scorer. He puts up a lot of shots.

I'm always worried about teams that have a couple of shooters that could get hot. UD always seems to lose these guys a few times a game. Thankfully, Mercer doesn't appear to have those guys.

That reminds me of a great high post - low post pass that Fabrizius made last game. I love having that guy in the high post. We should do it everytime a team zones us. He can make passes over the defense with his size in the high post and he can set screens and roll off for a wide open 3.

Mercer's leading scorer is their 6'1" point guard who chucks up a ton of shots. We'll see LW and RL each get about 20 minutes to completely hound this kid. If he's chewing gun, our PG's won't only know what flavor he is, they'll know all the ingredients that make that flavor. I completely expect this kid to have to face full court man coverage with pressure D every single minute he is in the game. I also expect to see our PG's running a lot on offense every time they go into man coverage so he is forced to play up tempo on both sides of the floor. LW and RL will each go in 4-5 minute spurts and stay fresh while this kid has to run a marathon to try to keep his team in the game.

I only saw a little bit of the game and I saw this play which is why I brought this up - I actually chuckled. Hopefully we will see a little more of this. Fab seems to have a quick release on the pass as well as the shot.

How well we defend their point guard and rebound will determine the outcome of tonight's game. I'm betting LW and RL are looking forward to the challange as is the rest of the team. We get a much better feel for how effective our pressure D is tonight. We need big r3ebounding games from CW, CL, KH and DS. I'm looking forward to see us in action.

I also remember that pass, very nice. After the game I wondered for just a minute what it would have been like to have brob and luke playing the pick and roll at the top of the key.

You may also see some of MJ on their scorer. He is our best defender. I like the idea of rotating 3 guys on him with RL and LW.

I think its a close game unless our half court offense steps up.
