Cunningham has two fouls. He needs to root Tillman out of the key, and challenge his shots.

Offensive foul on Tillman’s bucket with 30 seconds in OT. Clears out with right arm, point of emphasis this year. Baffled at mo call. Especially because put Josh to the floor so advantage.

Great effort. I feel sorry for Grant. He now has zero bench players.
Wonder if Kostas has quit in practice, is hurt or is transferring. Then there is X...

Impressive comeback from 17 down. Wish we could have won it in OT. Crutcher with 21, J Davis with 19, and Landers with 16. That is important for our future.

DD 10 points, 2-6 from 3, 6 TOs. 6TOs. Missed FTs should have doomed VCU but our TOs gave them the game. Heckuva comeback but we never should have been down so many. Terrible help D on Tillman and just giving the ball away.

Svoboda may not be any good, but at least he must be trying in practice. Yes, I think we had a specific game plan to play 4 guards but when Svoboda gets game time and XW doesn't, that says something.

Trashing players as headcases that have given up is not deferring to the coach. That's you making an assumption about the players. The irony of your complaints is lost on you.

I think X is just hurt, and has been to various degrees all year.
Not sure about Kostas; he has not progressed hardly at all. It will be interesting to see what he does the rest of this year and beyond.

He had three or four in a row that really cost us the game in regulation at about the 10 minute mark of the second half!

I agree with you there, but if you cut the ridiculous turnovers in half, and make half of the layups that should be automatic, we win by a dozen or so in regulation.

Only 6? He had 3 in about 30 seconds. I cannot believe he didn’t have more than 6. Must seem like more because they came at such critical times and were such aggregious turnovers.

And you are assuming they bust their but in practice. Maybe they have done what should be reasonably expected, but AG just doesn’t like them, and has decided to screw them over and himself and the rest of the team in the process.
Yeah, that must be it. That makes sense.
No, wait, it could be because AG just hasn’t been around enough basketball to realize lack of depth is killing his team, and is oblivious to how hard the others are playing, and how desperately they need a blow during the game.
Someone should point that out to him. I am sure he would appreciate the heads up.
It is apparent you have never coached.
And by the way, players that give up, are in fact headcases.

I didn't assume anything. I don't think coaches or players are exempt from criticism. But if you want to get worked up about people criticizing Grant while freely criticizing the players, go ahead. You do you. I'll be here to point out the hypocrisy.

I only get worked up about criticism of the coach when it is unfair. I choose to error on the side of giving the coach the benefit of the doubt. When it is appropriate, there is absolutely nothing wrong with criticizing any coach, AG included. He is well paid, and much should be expected.
Common sense dictates he has reasons for sitting X and Kostas. Maybe they are hurt. If so, he is obligated to sit them. Maybe they are not doing what AG expects to merit playing time. If so, I applaud him for holding his players to a standard.
I think we can agree, this team is in need of contributors. There are minutes to be had for those who can contribute while meeting the coach’s expectations. The bar is not terribly high. John Crosby and. Matej Svoboda see the floor, and their games have sizable holes. So ask yourself, why them and not the other 2?
If it is not ability, and it seems unlikely that it is. It must be effort. If a coach starts doling out minutes to those who don’t give effort, they lose credibility with the team. The culture disintegrates.
I have no idea what AG’s reason is, I just know it makes zero sense that with this team he has overlooked resources, and anyone who suggests it, just doesn’t understand coaching.
No hypocrisy here. I just know how these things often work, and find criticism of a coach’s use of personnel by those who are not at practice, or in the locker room, or on the bench, to be laughable.

A buddy went to the game and emailed me his assessment:
"Too many turnovers. Too many bad/forced shots. I see why Crosby isn’t getting any playing time. Cunningham at times looks great and at times doesn’t look like his feet leave the ground. The inside game killed us, Tillman personally. On the positive side, they are young and showed some composure at the end to make a comeback on the road."
