A win is a win is a win
Coming out of Olean with a win is never easy. What was St. B, 24-3 the last couple years in conference at home?
I think at one point towards the end of the first half, I was thinking about screaming for Mikesell to never take another three. Glad I didn't. He hit a couple big ones in the second half.
Free throws nearly cost us this game. I don't know what's going on with Cunningham, but at this point, if I were another coach with a sufficient bench, I might just play hack a Shaq on him until he proves he can make FTs with any consistency.
Good to see Policelli get some PT again in first half. I know he and Cohill didn't get a lot but every minute helps.
Our 3PT shooting woes continued overall but boy did we hit some big ones. Crutcher and Davis both, plus Mikesell. Wow!
Still gave up too many offensive rebounds. Guys have got to learn to block out.
We should have abandoned the zone in the first half when the Bonnies got hot. Stayed with it way too long.
Overall, happy to escape with a win, 1-1 on the road in two difficult games, and a bit of time to rest. Hope the team is able to get out soon.

The Bonnies are a brutal team. Stockard was smoking hot. We played like a team that dropped an emotional road game a couple of days earlier. A large part of the first half, we just were not good. Fortunately, the light came on, and it was a real team effort. AG's move to a zone coming out of the timeout was huge.
It's a road win. Not pretty, but effective.

I think Sea Bass might be talking about the Flyers, not the Bonnies. Not sure, but that post could be taken either way. What tipped it for me to think he’s talking about Dayton is when he says they’re not an NCAA tournament team. Why would he even bother including that description re: the Bonnies?

Any conference road win is good. We played tough against both VCU and St. Bonawelder and got a split. I'll take it. We had a lot of players play with their big boy pants on today (except Frankie--I thought his shorts were a hazing of sorts).
After JD dribbled the ball off his knee, I thought we were toast. Thought they would double him up and trap him, but he was wonderful after that one miscue.
Total team effort for 50 minutes.

Had to watch on DVR later. Didn’t see any posts on this in the game thread but did anyone else notice the atrocious jump ball tosses in both of the OT periods? We never stood a chance to control either tip as both tosses were wide left. Rollo could have done better on these tosses with his crown down over his eyes.

Thought we were going to fold like a pair of twos after they went up 10 and then kept the game in the 6-8 point range around five to go, but credit our guys with fighting back. When Jalen fouled out, I thought we were going to get rolled up like yesterday's DDN, but Jordan did a pretty good job at point, Obi came through with a huge block, and Chip, well, Chip needs to teach Josh how to shoot freebies because he was gold at the line.
Good win on the road.

I noticed - it was almost like the ref was trying to fake out the jumpers. Both times i was left thinking it was intentionally bad so Obi no chance of winning the tap. At least thats how it appeared through my UD glasses.

Saw the first, and heard Larry’s/Brooks’s description of it on the radio. Was either incredibly bad or incredible “homering”. Obi didn’t stand a snowball’s chance of getting it.

I ALWAYS listen to Larry and (pick one) Brooks, Bucky, Keith, Josh and mute the TV broadcast (sorry Rollo) has become a joke. And if you notice, when we go into glorified garages like Olean, Fordham, LaSalle and Duquesne we seem to get the bottom-of-the-barrel crews.
This is where we start our "get us out of this dreadful conference" thread....

Favored by three, won by three. As soon as Dr. "What's his name," started praising Mikesell, Mikesell went cold. But came back to help at the end. How does Dr. "What's his name" get a TV gig? He was a losing coach.

I have been on the "Mute" parade for a year or 2 now.... It takes a little getting used to, and a bit more concentration, but you quickly realize that these guys add NOTHING to the broadcast. They simply fill in any hint of silence, usually with buzzzz words and other game lingo that usually doesn't come close to matching what is going on.
Larry and Bucky on a 2 minute delay is still much better than whoever they throw out there to fill air time if you feel like you need noise....

In case anyone missed the shooting stats:
Overtime = FG % 85
3pt% 75
FT % 83
There's a pretty solid blueprint for success

You can pause the TV to sync with the delayed radio broadcast on most cable and satellite services. I often do that. It can require adjustments after commercial breaks but easy to do.

I think maybe the coaches influence in those really tight games is nil. He is reduced to a cheerleader and the player talent takes over (or not). I was shocked at those shooting %'s, and I would wager AG was too after the fact.

I was a bit worried losing Crutcher's leadership and three point shooting when he fouled out. Then I thought about it and said, what the heck this allows us to function in a tough situation without Crutcher. Secondly, I felt we may function better without Crutcher constantly slow dribbling the ball, instead of pushing the offense. I love Crutcher, but sometimes he is his own worst enemy by pulling the ball out and slowing down the pace, and of course Grant may have to take some blame for it.

Love the win, but a few things were repetitive and not so great.
* Crutcher wants to be the guy taking the big shot. Ok, but with 30 seconds left on the shot clock, give the ball up and get it back. Keep some movement.
*Jordan scares the life out of me when killing clock. His handle is just ok, but there are some really quick defensive hands right in front of you.
*When the opponent's shots go up we immediately follow the ball looking for the bounce. Our opponents immediately put a body on someone. Our blocking out is fundamentally deficient.
*Mikesell was a warrior, but not the guy you want dribbling coast-to-coast. Again, give it up to a guard and plan on getting it back in the lane.
*Trey, go hard to the rim, expect to get fouled, and expect to not get a call, power it in.
*Frankie, gets some new trunks.

Thank goodness Mikesell (on D too!) and Jordan Davis have been going off. I think Obi should play a little it more. It would take some of the pressure and wear-and-tear off Josh.
I decided not to post in the Trey thread but I do agree some of his antics are tiring. However, late in this game he had several "I'm getting to the bucket regardless, so you can foul me or let me slam it" drives that kept the momentum on our side. Gritty buckets that make you realize no matter how much he struggles from 3 or complains to refs, he helps us win games.
FT shooting still pretty bad. Jalen hit some unbelieveably clutch 3s as per usual. Not a great pace for Frankie to contribute.

Absolutely agree. When Crutcher went out, Trey felt he needed to be a bigger force on offense - a correct assessment. He made two drives from left to right that he finished. I am sure his drives are designed that way to allow him to finish with is right hand (coaching maybe? ). He tried it a third time but the Bonnies had it figured out by then, cut him off, and he had to force up a three. Still, important recognition.

There are about 3 posters on here that didn't. They have their eyes closed when someone does something good on an AG team. (P.S> You know who you are! )
Yes JD is developing into a good player back in form, I'd say.

Our cheerleader made a great call switching into a zone coming out of a timeout, with the Bonnies having the ball at the end of the first OT.
SBU totally unprepared.

Don’t remember if we could do that when we had cable, but we have satellite now, and the Pause button is a thing of beauty. At one point yesterday, I had the TV almost perfectly synced with the radio. Larry and Bucky/Brooks/Keith/Josh are superior to nearly any set of TV talking heads you can find (including the guys on the major networks).

Don’t know if I’d say it’s been 7 games, but Jordan definitely has been solid since about the start of conference play. Glad to see he’s out of his funk. He’s my kind of player. Quiet, reliable, and hard-working.
