I think he's exaggerating our rebuilding challenge quite a bit. This roster is about the furthest thing from a bare cupboard one can imagine and thinking of Kostas and Svoboda as "freshman," while technically true, seems intellectually dishonest.
I know we lost a lot of minutes and points, but we essentially return three starters. I wonder if his analysis may have been different if Mikesell was healthy?

I don't think the cupboard is bare, but I do not think it's the furthest thing from bare. We have a lot of unproven players back. X and DD are about the only players we really know what to expect. The rest are freshman, inconsistent, or looking to regain their form after a major injury. I think his prediction is pretty fair and on point.

First or fifth. Sure is nice to to be talking hoops again. Seems like this off-season has lasted forever.
FYI - Charleston bracket might be announced this week. Was announced on July 14th last year.

I Believe Rothstein
is spot on. The winingest class in UD history will take time to replace. It is not likely to happen next season. Can you say N.I.T.?

Preseason or not, UD should never be ranked behind St. Bonnie.

We can't ignore that their welding program brings in the big recruits.

I don't remember a UD team with so many unknowns. I can't confidently predict a stat line for anyone. I think JC and XW will have solid roles from game 1 but the rest of the roster is a crap shoot. What if Kostas and Svoboda really are 1st round NBA talents? If so this year might not be a rebuild at all and team could be a force by March. Flip side, if none of the Frosh are ready to contribute then we could finish bottom half of A10.

Since both are a year out of HS and were eligible for the NBA draft, it's safe to assume they are nowhere close. So let's file their NBA talents away with Benson, Searcy and every other UD recruit for now and let them play a couple games before touting their greatness.

Agreed, but it is exciting to see their names pop up on draft projections. At the very least they have high ceilings.

Sounds about right. Could be better, but could be worse. Rothstein is not wearing rose colored glasses, so good objective assessment. He probably considered putting VCU and Davidson ahead of us.

Hard to argue...he put us as the second team of unkowns, to include STL. We could easily be worse, but I think the Dayton name gets us the 5 spot.
Tons of unknowns for sure, and for anyone to argue that, they are definitely on the kool-aid.

I think Rothstein was very objective analyzing talent on the top teams. Did not know about the quality of SLU's recruits and incoming class. For a change, I like not being a target everyone is shooting at. I can deal with being an underdog for a change. We can hide in the weeds causing problems. There is a motivation there for our young players to show the league and NCAA who we are and will be in the near future. I think this will be a very different year than we have experienced in the recent past but very interesting year nonetheless. If it has to be, I will take the NIT. It is how young players get experience. I just don't like the idea of wishing my summer away. I am willing to wait till November to find out.
