Gannon Game Thread
Not a great offensive display so far. But team defense is excellent.

If they're playing anyone half way decent, they're down by at least double digits.

First time in a long time that a Dayton team has come out and started the 2nd half on fire.

We are playing someone halfway decent. Gannon would give lower level A10 teams fits, and may beat them. Gannon is a top 5 D-II team. They have real scholarship players, many of whom transfered down from D-1 to play right away instead of sitting a year out.
If you were expecting us to come out, score 100, and win by 30...you were mistaken. Gannon is not Capital. We can and will play better, but Gannon playing us fairly close is not a cause for alarm. They can play.

If Luke Fabrizius can learn to position himself and make up for his lack of quickness on defense. He is going to be an absolute asset on this squad.

That's what I'm saying, we miss London. I also realized how important ST is, when I thought he might be hurt.

That was a really bad foul by Searcy, and his 4th. What was he thinking?

It didn't take long for them to stick tight with Luuukkke. Kurt sure looked good on that offensive move

I think Luke is used to seeing those go down. He was already 3 steps towards our defensive end of the court. He's raw but man he's deadly.

When Lowery is out there the offense remains in motion. When Thomas is out there there is NO motion. Biggest difference I see with the PG play tonight. London without a doubt is our starter and it's obvious.
Luke looks good on offense ... slow on defense.
CW same as always in terms of energy and defense ... appears to be searching for his shot still a bit.
MJ CJ ..... ones older otherwise these two are the engine that is going to sustain us particularly on D and rebounding.
Kurt was ok for me. But he's kind of always ok.
Devin is still my most improved but tonight made more attention kind of errors.
Didn't see enough from Paul Williams to say a thing.
Chuck Little is a mystery to me at this point. For a senior I expected much more intensity. I know its just preseason etc, but I expect FIRE from him this year. just don't see it in the first two.

Great post Canonball. My response, as if it might be important, is that #1 Lowery is better if London is actually playing and not hurt. Gives him a comfort zone, that he isn't the only one, therefore putting too much pressure on him. But ST is definately valuable to this team.
LF on defense....it's that first step, and he has to learn to burst on that first step, and he'll be okay.
The other stuff, you're right, and I agree.

Nice to see that Warm Hand Luke Fabrizius isn't afraid to step up and bang the three ball. I'm glad to see some outside shooting ability. That was something I was worried about coming into this season. Perry and Fabreezy have a strong ability to spike a few triples. Nice W. Let's kill Wofford.

I forgot Mickey. Well if you don't do much I guess it's forgettable. OUCH. I think that might have been too harsh. I don't see much PT for Mickey if this keeps up. Too many guys who are more hungry at this point.

good test for the Flyers. Gannon was good defensively and had a lot of athleticism and even a big guy who was very good in the post.

Mixed reviews I think. Who out there thought Rob Lowery was not going to miss a 3pt shot this year? He will be fine, but I think he was a deer in the headlights without his mop-haired running mate. Both active, both good, but we need both.
Thomas dribbles too much and is risk averse. He also gets overpowered. Needs more strength.
We should probably red-shirt Fabrizius. HA! What a zone buster he will be.
This is the Charles Little we will see except for a few breakout games. Steady, Monty Scott-like help.
Scrappy defense with a) no hand-checking and b) no illegal screens. Progress. Maybe I missed one.
Good warm -up opponent.
Bring on Wofford.

Erie, PA:
Gannon's team is probably better than half of the ooc teams on the Flyer's
schedule.

Apparently, our guys seem to think they are athletic enough to get away with not boxing out on every shot. It seemed like every offensive rebound for Gannon (and they certainly got too many for my liking) was a result of our defense not finding someone to put a butt into.

swish,
why do you say lowery felt like it was all on him when he wasnt even the starter? he is a good shooter, a decent back up, but we need london to make this team go.
i know it was lowery;s second game, but that is what tonight showed me.

Open Gametracker on the UD site. Go to the schedule and click on the game. Then click on the Gametracker link and go to Team/Player stats.
Johnson had a cold shooting night but had a big rebounding night. I think he is gonna be another great rebounder for us.
Who would have predicted CW, Huelsman, and Fab as our main offensive threats tonight?

It just looked to me from his body language that he was putting pressure on himself. I got the impression he knew he would be playing more minutes this game since LW was down, and he was playing a little tight, not as comfortable as he was against Capital.
I agree with you that we need London. Shoot, we need all 3 of our point guards!

I have to agree Lowery appeared as if he was trying too hard and not letting the game come to him. One announcer made the comment that it actually may have done London some good watching the pg play from the stands for a game to get a better feel for what's needed. I agree.
But it seemed to have the opposite effect on Rob who seemed to be pressing which resulted in steady Thomas getting more minutes. Lowery is a great talent, but I think he learned a lot last night with London out that will only serve to make him better.
