July Recruiting Evaluation Period
The 1st Session has begun tonight (basically tomorrow morning) and lasts until Sunday.
The 2nd Session begins on Tuesday the 23rd and last until Sunday the 28th.
Will be interesting to see where the coaches show up this week... Don't be surprised if we see some offers go out this weekend
Just a heads up Luke Frazier and his Wildcat Select AAU are in Birmingham, Alabama... They start up their Adidas Gauntlet games tomorrow morning at like 10.

No need to worry...how many times have you seen lower major or D-2 guy surface and then think - why didn't we go after him? Many of these players are simply overlooked. Look at Ja Morant of Murray State (mid-major) - premier point guard in the country last year!

3 star from Miami. He has been offered by X, Florida St, Georgia, Wyoming and others. 6'7" forward in the '20 class. Sounds like a good one.

Recruiting Question
Is AG going after higher rated recruits than past UD coaches? I'm especially interested in how he relates to Archie Miller.
My memory of AM was he wouldn't go after the higher rated players because we were Dayton ...so we didn't have a chance. Yes I understand this thought is partially correct. Of course the top players want the top schools (top 20)
Who does AG go after in high school? Top 50 - 200 players? Higher than AM?
To me it appears both AG and AM strategy is to get transfers that don't make it at the second level schools (top 50).
Thanks

I think all previous coaches went after the highest recruits possible. They would invest a lot of time and energy only to have a big school snatch the prospect at the last minute. The UD reputation among recruits is just not there and has not been there for quite some time.
OP, BG and AM all tried but realized quickly that they could not close the deal. Eventually, they all would search for projects and gambles. Some of the big names pursued by those coaches was impressive, yet sad to see in other uniforms.

Upon checking verbal commits.com Tony Sanders Jr. has only 3 offers, X on 3/31/19, Dayton on 5/1/19 and Yale on 6/21/19 however maybe Florida St, Georgia and Wyoming have made recent offers and their website is not up to date yet.
There are three other small forwards that we have offered that X has offered also. Jaylen Clark, 4 star 6'6" 190 from Corona, CA who has 15 offers, Keon Ambrose, 2 star 6'8" 185 from Canada with 12 offers and Jalen Bridges, who verbal commits has as a 2 star but we all know that is wrong because he should be at least a 4 star. At 6'7" and 205lbs. Bridges from Fairmont, WV has been talked about on this forum for his ability to score and rebound. Other coaches must be noticing as well because he has 35 offers.
It would be neat if we could beat _avier out for the services of any of the above four mentioned players.

I think Bridges already committed somewhere. We are also after Isaiah Rivera. One thing I've found between Rivals, VC, and 247, their list of who has offered is often lacking, as is their star rating, at least unless you are 4 or 5 star, then they seem to stay up pretty well with those kids.

In today's landscape with so many transfers, it's often times not a wasted effort even if you lose a recruit to another program because there's a very real chance you'll have another shot at that player in a year or two.

I think the staff can be a little more selective on who they're targeting this year for high school recruits.
If Dayton has a big year and Obi heads off the NBA as a first round pick, UD is going to be significantly more attractive in the transfer market this spring. Any guy they get could step in with a great chance of starting with the 5 man junior class graduating.

OSU...I think that might be a good niche for the Flyers in the coming years. This year will be a good experiment on what we can accomplish with transfers.

“If that guy’s house burned down, there’d be 11 suspects.”
I spent 13 hours at Peach Jam w/ a head coach to get an understanding of if it’s even worth it for schools outside the power conferences to recruit there.

Transfers have been good for the Flyers for a number of years. Transfers led the Flyers in scoring for seven straight years. Dillard twice, Sibert twice, Cooke twice, and Cunningham once. Obi stopped the streak this year. Don't know what we would have done without these guys, especially Sibert. And who knows how good we could have been the year Cunningham got hurt. Let's hope we have several playing this season as good or better than Sibert. I agree that as we get better, we will be able to attract better transfers who have become disillusioned with their P5 teams. This could be a good source of some very good talent in the years ahead.

I think UD should be in a good position with guys transferring up too (Cooke, Chatman types). The amenities of a power conference program are here (chartered flights, practice facility, etc) along with elite fan support and the arena.

OSUFlyer: thank you for sharing this article. This article documents exactly what I thought it was like. I’ve gone to some high school events and inevitably I will sit down next to some player’s mother. Oh, geez, you got to watch what you say! Mom is listening. Maybe these events that I attended were not as high caliber as the Peach Jam, but the principle is the same. I think that this coach welcomed the company and was glad to put a body in a seat so that he was not sitting next to someone’s Mom.
