George Washington Game Thread
Solid Rebound win last night but we have another huge game on Friday Night against a team that stole a win from us on a fluke last year... Let's take it to them.
Game is at 7 PM on Friday Night and will be shown on ESPN2.
Possible Starting Lineup:
G 3 Paul Jorgensen 6’2” 185 SO New City, NY
G 13 Patricio Garino 6’6” 210 SR Mar del Plata, Argentina
F 12 Yuta Watanabe 6’8” 197 SO Kagawa, Japan
F 34 Tyler Cavanaugh 6’9” 238 RS JR Syracuse, NY
F 21 Kevin Larsen 6’10” 265 SR Copenhagen, Denmark
Their normal PG Joe McDonald missed the last game with an eye injury, I wonder if he plays on Friday. Wake Forest transfer Cavanaugh avgs 17+ Points and 7+ Rebounds a Night.
Hopefully Chuck plays.
Let's finish off the successful week in style before we, I can't believe I'm going to say this, have a showdown in Olean against SBU next Tuesday!
I Believe... Go UD!

They begin classes Monday the 18th. But it looked about 100 in the Pep band last night for the women's game. It appeared most were students with some alumni sprinkled in, so maybe students will have a presence on Friday.

Classes don't resume until the 18th? Wow, times have changed from the Old Daze when we'd be back on the 3rd or 4th. Is this a GREAT Country or what!? Sorry, don't mean to hijack the Thread, but Man have times changed at UD.

Injuries sure seem to have raised their ugly heads for many teams this year; our womens team seems to have the most, Austria, Deanne, Edwards, all former starters with Deanne and Austria our two leading scorers, and Austria and Edwards on A-10 all defensive teams .

will be interesting to see if either team is matches up with the other as GWs front line of Larsen, Cavanaugh and Garino is much bigger than the Flyers. On the hand Pollard, Pierre and Cooke are much quicker than the Colonials.

I'm not going to lie, this game has me concerned. I'm concerned about the match ups for this game in the interior. GW could kill us on the boards tonight. Larsen could expose McElvene.
I'd rather beat a team when at 100% but glad to see McDonald out. Any word on Cooke?

Saw some rumors on Twitter that Cooke is a no go tonight and now Crosby also has some sort of injury. Frustrating if true, we need all the help we can get tonight.

Full disclaimer, these are NOT confirmed, I'm not even sure if totally reliable. Just something I saw mentioned among a few students I know. So who knows, hopefully it's nothing and Cooke is still questionable.

Daryl! That was a good bounce pass...he waited until the defender sold out to him and then he hit Kyle and Kyle finished strongly, as he normally does. Our fast breaks are much better tonight, giving us some easy buckets.

We are focusing way too much on the dribble and not enough on the shooters! You can't let them sit out there and shoot 3's!!!!!!!!

He lost the smallest guy on the court and the guy capitalized with a bucket in the paint. Ryan has to be focused like a laser on his man. I think he gets caught following the ball and not the man.

Cavanaugh and Garino 5-7 on threes is killing us right now, and of course their 8 offensive rebounds.
Pollard has been a non-factor with no rebounds and one missed shot, and a seat on the bench for not blocking out.

What a fun half of basketball to watch! Great shots, up and down action, and some nice defensive plays too. In the halfcourt O, Dayton is not settling for perimeter passing and 3's. Lots of crisp passing, penetration, and mostly good shot selection. Now let's pull away in the 2nd!

Right on! It amazes me how the 2-on-1 fast break has become a lost art.

If you are going to play a man-to-man defense then the defender must close out on the 3-ball! If not, then you are better off to play zone and cut off the dribble penetration.

Wow, this GW team is well coached. I don't know if I have seen a team work the ball screens as well as they do. The Flyers are getting caught up in these ball screens and creating open shots for GW.

Cooke just stood there on that last score by GW. Pierre had him on the right, Cooke needed to dig in on the left and just stood there.

Good thing we have Dyshawn's game back. He is keeping us in the game. That steal by Kyle two minutes ago was huge in turning this game around. It does appear that GW is running low on gas at this time.

Larsen just walked in the lane. I swear the refs have missed about five GW walks tonight. I think they missed a goaltending call on Scoochie's drive as well.
