Here's a thought: the "in-flight movie" on the way back to Dayton is the game film, and every player is required to identify at least 5 plays where they could have done something to (a) get more points for UD or (b) prevent more points for SJ. Extra credit for eliminating turnovers & SJ offensive rebounds.

A lot of the threes were wide open good looks, they just weren't falling (maybe rushed a little, a little frantic by playing faster than we're used to). We hit 3 more threes and 2 more free throws, we can play this bad and maybe win.

Yep. Live by the 3; die by the 3. And for tonight anyway, R.I.P. UD.

I think KP could have played but AM is seeing the bigger picture since for once we don't have to play our way into the dance. Liked that post game Martelli interview showed he understood the advantage they had at home without KP playing against them. I think if Flyers meet em again with Polllard, we win. But it wouldn't be the blowout most here think. And FWIW - considering how much time Wherle has actually played this year-he did no worse than anyone else and Larry acknowledged that on the post game.

Everyone needs to relax. If going 1-1 was offered before the RI and SJU game we all would have taken a split in a second. We are right where we need to be. Unless SJU wins out (unlikely) we control our own destiny to win the conference by winning out and are favored in every game.

We are still undefeated when at full strength. Which we will be when it really counts.

They lost poise starting after the under 12 time out in the first half and dug a hole that they could not get out of. Hopefully lesson learned.

I think we are all there, UDFlyer, and agree. What bothered me is not losing but the subpar performance in several ways.

Didnt think the amount of treys were the issue. Thought most were good looks and several were taken late to overinflate the effective number when the game was finally out of reach. We make those on another night. Game still comes down to making shots. We played 5 on 8 most of the night, drove to the basket many times never to draw a whistle, got some great open looks from deep, slip-n-slide all night, and were still within 2 possessions with about 2-3 minutes to go while playing without Kendall and playing a very good team on the road.

Not sure what some of you are so upset about. Im more bullish after what I saw tonight. Nothing went right and it was a 6pt game in crunch time against the best team we've probably played since Xavier.

I'm upset because I think winning this game was important and feel that we could've if they would've kept their composure and that AM put the right personnel in the game.

The reason I feel winning this game was so important? Because I feel like keeping the winning streak alive was the best way to keep Kendall in street clothes until he heals enough to be counted on. Now I just have a feeling that he will play against the Bonnies and then sit again.

Well, our only two A-10 losses came in Philly and we do not play there again this year, so I am happy about that.

Iowa also loses on the road. Like they say winning on the road is not easy.

And Oklahoma lost, to RPI 25 Texas Tech. SJU is RPI 22. Tough to win on the road, especially to a conference foe that is having a great season.

LOL...You're NOT going to beat a good team like that with 2 standout players WITHOUT Pollard and definitely without KP playing a good game. You could have gotten the KP that gets 2 fouls in the first 6 minutes and ain't worth a crap the rest of the night so let's not act like KP is some AA or even an all league player.S___T happens...

UD is a very good team but not a GREAT team and even great teams are prone to lose games, and do lose games and multiple games sometimes in a row, especially when setup with a real tough opponent at their place with the BEST player in the conference with an excellent coach in Martelli..SJU was primed for this game, had it circled, and had a stacked deck..This game was no different than what UD does to some good league opponents at the Arena...Those opponents don't crawl up in fetal position and belly ache..They go out in the next game and get the W..

This game was just as unimportant as it was important.....UD is NOT all of a sudden 2-3 games out of the lead...I personally had this game circled as a loss before the season even started......If UD is the team everyone believes they are then they'll come home and beat SBU and then win at least 3 of the next 4 after that..

Chris, couldn't agree more. RE your 5 on 8 comment: what's disturbing is we all watch the officiating in our game vs SJU...a high-level A10 game with two very good teams, then watch UNC vs Duke. The difference in how (cough) the same rules are applied in that game is beyond night and day.

Have to disagree on the Wehrli comment. He was lost out there which is not surprising considering he hadn't played in 4 or 5 games. When Archie put Steve in we finally had an inside presence. Even coaches make mistakes.

Did Miller play Wehrli out of desperation in a game he felt was a lost cause?

Or because he knows we may need him the rest of the season due to another's injury that just isn't getting better?

During the game(and I even said it in the game thread) I thought he played him because he was afraid of Steve giving up open 3's to Miles and getting isolated in pick and roll. Archie basically admitted his reasoning/mistake in his quotes from the DDN.

“(St. Joseph’s) had five 3-point shooters out there,” Dayton coach Archie Miller said. “Steve at times is going to be in a position where he’s going to give up 3s. That was the concern going in.”

“The second half, I said the hell with it and let Steve go in there to see if he could make something happen, which he did,” Miller said.

Its all about matchups. Pollard is a bad matchup for SJU as none of their bigs can defend him off the bounce. He lit up the Hawks for 22 last year on 7 of 8 shooting.

I also think that we will meet and beat SJU in the A10 Tourney. We were only 5 down with just under 4 to play after having made a bushel of mistakes, both physical and mental.

Said before the game SJU has not seen a defense like ours. They still haven't because we were missing the beef.
Pollard would also get some of those bigs in foul trouble.

Archie's reasoning was correct on Wehrli, but you cannot sit a guy all year and expect him to be comfortable in a huge game. Bobby looked totally lost and out of step. That three he threw up missed the rim by three feet. No problem with Archie playing Mikesell and Williams in other games, since they are the future, but what you then get is not the Wehrli we saw last year.
