Massachusetts Game Thread
Heck of a week for the guys, hopefully Cooke is back on Wednesday. UMass not so much, another slow start to conference play, right now 0-3. Let's see if we can go in and win at a place we have not won in the regular season is 2004... Take care of Business!
Game is at 7 PM on Wednesday night and will be shown on CBS Sports Network.
Probable Starting Lineup:
G 2 Luwane Pipkins 5’11” 185 FR Chicago, Illinois
G 0 Donte Clark 6’4” 192 JR Charlotte, North Carolina
G 3 Dejon Jarreau 6’5” 182 FR New Orleans, Louisiana
F 55 Brison Gresham 6’9” 220 FR New Orleans, Louisiana
C 45 Rashaan Holloway 6’11” 310 SO Elmer, New Jersey
Clark is their best player... 14.7 PPG, 4.4 RPG, 3.2 APG. Looks like Holloway is playing well, 11 pts and 6 reb a game in 18 MPG. Also, their 2 freshman guards are having decent years as well (Pipkins 11 PPG, Jarreau 9 PPG).
Get it done... Go UD!

At the press conference call this am, Archie said Charles integrated yesterday with a light work out and is going full go today and they will see how he does.

oddly enough it is home to one of the top 5 utter baffling outcomes in 25 years of following them. That 30 point BEATDOWN at the Mullins Center in the first round of the A-10 Tournament 5 or 6 years ago

And i hate this kind of game. We always seem to crap the bed in one of these kinds of games. Team with decent talent but showing absolutely nothing and getting crushed up and down the court........then they have their "brown out" or "red out", the students show up the one time all year, a couple of bums get hot and presto.....horrible loss and RPI hit

I saw UMass in person last week vs VCU and they looked awful. They were extremely sloppy with the basketball. VCU wasn't really even applying that much pressure (for their style of play) and UMass was turning the ball over left and right. They are VERY undisciplined, and I think that comes from their coach. VCU, who may actually play smaller than us at times, really struggled with Halloway inside, but he could really only play a few possessions before they had to take him out. His backups were not very good. On paper, with Cooke back at full go, this should be an easy win...but as mentioned above, we have seen what has happened at UMass in the past.

The basket is the size of a shower curtain ring at Mullins. Nothing we hoist ever goes in. Conversely, UMass plays out of their skulls at home when they see our jerseys. Alley oops. 26ft treys. 4pt plays. Curly Neal dribble drives. Fadeaway backfooted spinning baselibe Js from 18ft with 2 seconds on the shot clock and a hand in the face. Id like to see us rise to our own level and TCB in Amherst for a change.

Maybe Archie will have a couple early plays for Davis. If he can hit a shot or two early, maybe it will give him some confidence.

Great start for Darrell Davis...hopefully a confidence-builder. Scoochie has been a bit lackadaisical with the ball.

The same place he does every game the first time he enters. You'd think he'd learn by now. And then when the ball wasn't yet in UMass possession, no Flyers around to get the ball.

Archie about lost it on Darrell while calling that timeout.
He may have to let Scoochie play even though he has two fouls.

Looking pretty fugly right now. Had a 15-10 lead, then UMass on an 18-4 run. And Baby D helps stem the tide with 2 FTs.

Archie really needs to get Scoochie back in for these last 4 minutes. He's your senior leader and you just have to trust him to play without fouling.

UMass 5-10 on threes, but bigger is our 33% shooting and 10 turnovers, and Scoochie getting two fouls.

It's difficult to give yourself a chance to win when you have 12 turnovers, with so many of them simply unforced.

UMass is going to have to repaint the visitors locker after Archie finishes with halftime.

Davis hits a 3 to get it to single digits. Needed that.

Archie yanked Scoochie out of the game...and he should have. His head is not in the game at all. He is playing like he could care less about protecting the ball.

The Pipkin kid was 10-47 in his last 4 games--and 8 of 32 from 3, and tonight he can't miss.
All UD has to do is show up at the Mullins Center and some phucking Minuteman goes off and shoots lights out.

34-27 is better than where we were. Hope that this is another tale of two halves.

Scoochie waited too long again. I cannot believe the coaches don't get on his case about that. As good as he is, when he holds the ball to run down the clock, he is abysmal. Frankly, I would rather see John out there in those situations.

Down 7 and we hold the ball for a bad almost last shot. Stupid. We had some momentum finally, and then we kill it. How was that planned?

I'm hoping that run of threes becomes fool's gold for UMass...they essentially stopped looking inside.

I always say this, but I think UMass would be highly vulnerable to a press with all of those freshmen.

I hope Archie is in their face with this dismal first half with 11 turnovers.

Flyers Just Not Ready to Go at the Start
Another putrid first half of basketball by the Flyers. This is a very bad habit for a team that has tournament ambitions. The Coaching staff has to make an adjustment.

The Davis twins are the only ones who came to play. The rest of our starters were stinko.

Have not seen this team take a good shot this year to end a half on.

Their threes, our TOs and bad shot selection and we're only down 7 at the half?
Not time to worry...yet!

Crosby is just so terrible. Adds nothing on offense then gets his pocket picked.

We gave up 21 points in the last 10 minutes. Poor shooting and turnovers, but our defense is why we are behind.

Can't say it enough, Archie needs pull in an above average graduate transfer PG who can play immediately next year. UD can't have Crosby running the team next year waiting for Wright to get/be ready.

It's so strange: it's a team of talented players who can get to the basket, is often extremely effective at moving the ball, and has a coach who regularly scripts good plays coming out of dead balls...we should thrive in these situations.

Carrying the ball in basketball is like holding in football: referees could call it every possession if they wanted.

I think he's just gassed. Played 15 minutes in 1st half. Hasn't played over 26 the whole season.
