I noticed Archie’s picture was quite visible on the home page. I’m guessing (hoping) that means they’ll be focusing on Archie chasing the ghost of The General, instead of our General Grant chasing the ghost of Archie,

Since the intro says they are evaluating successors of "historically revered" coaches, I am certain they will be talking about the successors of Bobby Knight.

That’s my inclination as well, especially when you consider IU’s comparatively low ROI of the basketball program over the past 2 decades (and face it - UD fans know all about low ROI), and that the legendary John Wooden’s picture is prominent and Archie’s is far smaller. But since the article itself focused on a mid-major school ( UMass) whose 1-time coach (Calipari) took them to historic heights, there’s just the slightest seed of doubt in my mind.

No way it's about Archie here because they are obviously looking at icons of the coaching profession and it is taking a much longer look back than just two years with a new coach. Although Archie was good here I don't think he quite reached the levels of these iconic coaches, albeit some may not have done there thing on the up and up...I'm looking at you John Calipari.

St. Joe’s sophomore wing Charlie Brown Jr., will remain in the NBA Draft, his agent Andre Buck told @Stadium. Brown averaged 19 points this past season.

So there is a guy who will probably not even go at the end of Round 2, but he is done with school.

Charlie Brown is particularly done with that school. Phil M is done and Joes will be going through a transition. I can't blame him for not wanting to be part of that.

Experienced HC like Phil is exactly what he needs, just put a couple recruiting assistants around him and I think he'll do well

Alabama transfer Tevin Mack will start his visit to Oregon today. He'll go to St. Louis later this week. Averaged 9.0 PPG. Eligible immediately.
Could be a good pick up for the Bills

Jon Rothstein interviews VCU coach Mike Rhoades on his podcast. Some general A10 content, nothing dramatic. Includes Rothstein's preseason all conference picks as referenced above.

So, either they’re not expecting us to sneak up on anyone (doubtful) or they figure we’re not worth mentioning (more likely). Sounds like bulletin board material to me.

I don't disagree. For me it is more how well (and how long will it take) will the pieces fit together more so than the egos and playing time.

Good to see that 4-10 all look relatively strong this year. I know Duquesne lost Williams but for them to be picked 10th bodes well for the A10. It’s important for those teams to do much better in the OOC schedule this year. I know VCU has everyone back except Mobley but I like our chances against them with the returning players along with 4 transfers + Matos. I think Matos plays a huge role from a defensive standpoint against Davidson’s guards this year as well.

I REALLY like our chances against VCU in '19-'20. They were only 5 and 1 point better than us last season. From what I hear, our sitouts last season were more than that much better than our starters. So.....combine our sitouts with our starters and it sure seems to me that our Flyers should be favored to finish higher than VCU. Of course these pre-season analysts probably don't know how well our sitouts did against our starters last season. I am more anxious than I have been since the summer of 1967 for next season to start. Of course that season proved to be a major disappointment (winning the NIT was no substitute for being #6 pre-season and losing 9 of the first 16 games). Sure hope the high expectations for '19-'10 are not dashed like that.

Don: You are dating yourself! Keep in mind that if nothing else, the depth problem will not be present this year. I think that lack of depth really held us back on the defensive end. I remember watching a lot of games and being frustrated with the fact that we had no answer to dribble penetration. Well, in retrospect, there is no way a guard can defend dribble penetration if there is no one to back him up. He has to lay off the penetrating player! That being said, I am extremely excited about the upcoming season. We finally have some size on the front line and very good players backing up every position.

Not ashamed of dating myself. I even have fond memories of the 1950s, except for the VERY disappointing losses to Louisville and Xavier in the '56 and '58 NIT finals. Lots more disappointments over the ensuing years than highlights. BUT....still and always a Flyer faithful....through thick and thin. Just hoping for another taste of the thrill of victory again this season.

@JonRothstein
Keith Dambrot has done yeoman's work at Duquesne, but he'll have no favors done in 19-20. Dukes have no true homecourt advantage next season due to on-campus renovations.
