Cooke

That was a pretty gutsy performance. Looked like a groin pull and those are very difficult to play through, with all the cutting and quick change of direction. Hopefully he gets back to full strength quickly. Can't afford another man down.

He showed a lot of heart and guts by going out on the court again. He made some plays and free throws down the stretch. I don't think we would have won without him.

Agree.

Also, what I saw on his return in the 2nd half was his leadership. We cannot replace him.

IMO there's only one way to describe Cooke's performance today..

Way to go fellas. Nice win and a defining moment in Cooke's career.

Gutsy win for the Flyers - but especially Cooke. He is attaining the "presence" that identifies a star - a future pro.

And I liked what I saw all around today - lots of ball movement and moving without the ball - even the ESPN announcers in the last two games commented on crisp passing and movement by the Flyers. I remember one sequence where the Flyers made five or six bounce passes in succession, all crisp and with purpose. I don't remember prior Flyer teams being that sharp.

And even on the weave that ended with Miller flying to the hoop (and missing badly) at least the passes were strong, the movements were aggressive, and who knows, maybe before long Sam will have enough experience and confidence to actually make a wild driving shot like that.

We just need to stay healthy, and get Pollard back, and I like this team's chances against anybody.

Go Flyers!

Cooke is irreplaceable, I agree.

We saw for 8m what this team looks like without him. It forces DD into a bigger role. Which got me thinking...did DD return into the game after he appeared to tweak his knee? I sure hope he is OK. Can't afford any more injuries

Darrell started the 2nd half and then Charles came in for him after 2 minutes. He didn't go in again until just before the under 4 TO and then Charles came in after about the 3:30 mark. So Darrell played about 3 minutes the 2nd half. Not sure if it was the injury from the slip, or Archie just sat him for poor play. My other thought was that Archie didn't want Cooke's groin to tighten up if he came out so he just left him in and sat Darrell.

A little of both would be my guess, plus add in the fact that Kyle was playing his best game of the year and he wanted to keep Kyle on the floor.

I find myself wondering how in the heck a pro-style area can end up with a slippery wet floor after all these years…….. surely this is not the only multipurpose hockey area with ice under the court…. surely they have the expertise to control the moisture by now…
I watched the next game and both teams had players slip sliding around. Both Charles and Baby D could be lost for multiple games… or even worse. Pretty unacceptable if you ask me!

DD picked up his 4th foul when CC came in for him. That is why DD barely played in the 2nd half.

ESPN Box score only shows him having 2 fouls for the game.

I went through the play by play and it only shows 2 fouls also.

I think it was more fear of the muscle tightening up if Cooke stopped playing.

I actually heard Adrian Branch praise Dayton's style of play multiple times during the broadcast.

His best analyst came after Cooke was back in the game... saying he had the "Fred G Sanford walk".

ESPN production meeting prior to Wooden Legacy:

"Hey, I got an idea... maybe we could get some jamoke to roam the arena and basically just talk about meaningless nonsense for a half on the off-chance that random people are watching this game for holiday entertainment instead of fans of either of these teams!"

"You've got a gift my friend. Don't let them hide it in a bushel basket."

I don't think they were biased, they just wanted people to keep from turning to another chanel. We were leading by a good margin most of the time, and they wanted to keep what little audience they had watching the game thinking that New Mexico is going to come back any minute and make a game of it.

Maybe not, but they seemed to spend an awful lot of time talking about NM's top two players and not a whole lot about Dayton. I'm sure I'M biased though, so maybe I just heard what I wanted to hear.

Has there been any word on Cooke's condition? Seemed like he was in some serious pain, but came back in the game. Groin injuries can linger quite a while. I am wondering if he is expected to play or be full strength on Saturday. Any news?

You actually expect an update from Archie? The best you're going to get is "Charles is pretty sore and limited in practice right now, but we hope he can play Saturday." And don't forget that you could hear that same thing for the next month or he could be perfectly fine.

I have simply decided to believe an injured player is out indefinitely until I actually see him on the court in an actual game.

Cookes injury which was most likely caused by slipping on the floor that was just put down over the ice rink a day or two before the game could have been prevented by doing what the NBA did tonight.

They postponed the game because of the condensation that had formed on the floor in Philly. They had video of several high speed fans trying to dry the court along with an army of people(including Boogie Cousins who plays for the Kings) with floor mops trying to dry it. Hopefully Charles is ready to go Saturday.

The ESPN article I linked below basically said it was unseasonably warm and humid in Philly and someone in arena operations basically dropped the ball by not turning down the temperature in the arena which could have prevented the problem.

I have no idea if this link will work, but good few minutes with Archie. Seems like he isn't too worried about Cooke and Pollard will come back to practice soon. At least some information.
