D. Davis

D. Davis has stepped up the last 3 games so much nailing 10 for 10 of 3 pointers. He now has an effective field goal percentage of 70% according to kenpom. If he had enough shots, he would be one of the top 5 players in the entire country (out of like 4,000 NCACA players) in effective field goal percentage. Just a little primer on why effective field goal percentage is so important.

http://www.breakthroughbasketball.co...ercentage.html

Yes he needs to bulk up physically, play better defense, and handle the ball better, but great shooter, great IQ, and great hustle. Really love seeing him play so well as a Freshman. What a recruit by Archie to get him over Michigan State.

Agreed. Darrell Davis is playing with a lot of confidence right now, and if we can get 10+ minutes out of him, and nail a three (or 2 or 3 of them!) this will be a very successful season for him, and give him a big boost going into next year when he will be called upon to play 25+ minutes per game.

This new brand of Dayton basketball has been really fun to watch, and makes be an Archie Believer!

I love the way he passes the ball too. He's got a little Pete Maravich in him. You have no idea where he's going with the ball when he drives. A few times this season he's shown it but the recipient wasn't ready for the ball. Watching his high school highlights, he drives, and either makes a great pass or puts up a shot similar to Vee's floater. We've just hit the tip of the iceberg with this guy, he's got many weapons in his arsenal and I look forward to watching him gradually unleash them for the next 3.5 season.

What is the UD record for most consecutive made threes - if he doesn't have it, he has to be close.

Don't know if 10 is the record, but the record was at least 8 before yesterday.

Shawn Haughn went 8-8 on Feb 13, 1994 against St. Louis. Dayton won 82-77. It was Dayton's only conference win in 2 years in the Great Midwest Conference.

Don't know what Shawn did in the game before or game after so don't know if he made more than 8 in a row.

And St Louis was 19-1 and ranked 17th in the country at the time. I guess JOB only got up for the BIG games.

Forget the UD record, the all time NCAA record for consecutive 3s without a miss was set im 1990 over the course of 4 games by a Northwestern player. He hit 15 3s in a row. It is possible (though unlikely) that he could set the record in the next two games.

We don't speak that name around here--but to answer your question, Haffner lit us up for 65 points including 11 of 13 from three when he played for Evansville in 1989.

Someone named Todd Leslie hit 15 straight threes over four games for Northwestern in 1990. Davis has hit five in one game. It is possible that the record could fall Saturday. Highly doubtful, but possible.

Moving forward given how short our bench is, the foul trouble I am sure someone will end up in at some point, etc.....We need a very solid 20+ minutes per game from DD this season. My hunch is he can handle it just fine.
