Hank Finkle was listed at 6’11 and Dan Obravac was listed at 6’10...... in the cafeteria line Hank was at least 3” taller. He just wanted to not be listed as a 7’er some of team pictures from past years had guys standing on their toes.

There isn’t as much height-hyping as people seem to believe. It’s actually more prevalent with short guards (not bigs) that come up short of six-feet.
Jerry Matos was listed at 6-7 in junior college but is on Dayton’s roster at 6-6. Frankie Policelli is now listed at 6-7, not 6-8. That tells me Anthony Grant doesn’t inflate the numbers.

I would guess Grant does the opposite. Trimming those numbers down for the record books was commonplace for my high school coach. 6’5 became 6’3. 6’0 became 5’10. And so on.
So to a lesser degree I think those numbers are purposely rounded down to misrepresent the players’ actual height. Why provide other teams with a better scouting report?

I went to classes with Hank. He was a space eater. Well over 7' , but also had long arms and very wide shoulders which he used extremely well to his advantage. As opposed to Finn who had modest upper proportions, but got the job done with finesse.

I'm 6' 2".
My mom was 5' 2" in her playing days...closer to 4'10" now.

I remember visiting Hanks room in Founders where they had him is a regular dorm bed. He was laying down on his back resting, with his knees hanging over the bottom end of the bed, and his feet squarely on the floor. He was a LARGE human being.... and the gentlest person one could ever meet. There was no special treatment to players back in those days.....

Hank's room was directly across from the elevator on the fourth floor. My room was about four doors down on the same side as Hank.
Hank had a vertical jump of about 4 inches, but a great touch under the basket.
From my memory, Hank never ever got stuffed once he made his move to the basket.
You are correct...gentle as a lamb!

Perhaps Coach Grant doesn’t inflate the numbers, but his coach at UD didn’t seem to care much about them. I say that based on an observation from my undergrad days in the early 1980s.
My girlfriend (now wife) and I had Fr. Burns for Christian Marriage in 1983 or 1984. Also in that class (and seated side-by-side, a few rows below us in the Sherman Hall auditorium) were Rory Dahlinghaus and Jim Shields, who were Forwards in the Class Of ‘86, both of whom were listed at 6’8”. At the start of each class, Fr. Burns would have the entire class stand for prayer. Well, there had to be about 2” difference between Dahlinghaus and Shields. I believe Rory is (or at least was) a legitimate 6’8”. But Shields? More like 6’6” (or maybe even 6’5”).

They were “just living together” at the time. Scandalous, right?

Just watched the Charleston/Stony Brook game. Very entertaining, but Pete Gillen is the absolute worst announcer/analyst on TV. How does he still have a job? Extremely annoying and painful

I've started to think almost all color announcers are terrible these days. Dr. G and Tim McCormick were tough to listen to all day yesterday in the A10 tourney.
The thing that drives me crazy about color announcers today is that they use superlatives for every play, even the most mundane. The best, most amazing, the greatest, unbelievable, incredible, most talented, etc., etc., etc.
EDIT: I do think Dalen Cuff is very good and it's too bad he couldn't do the A10 tourney.

Unless UD is playing, I listen to music during the games. Problem solved.
