Linkronicity

BEVERLY HILLS (MI) -- As those eminent philosophers Sting and The Police told us (with an assist from Carl Jung), when several seemingly unrelated events occur together in a meaningful manner, it’s known as “synchronicity”; when one assembles a bunch of links that are semi-related into one place that is called “linkronicity.”

Here we go:

-- If you haven’t seen it yet, this is a really cool promo video on everyone’s favorite 40 year old below-ground basketball arena:

-- The guys at Rush the Court had a roundtable discussion about the most compelling college basketball conference races and the Atlantic 10 actually got some love (and UD is mentioned as the darkest of horses):

-- Steve Bell at MLive.com and BankHoops.com provides us with Michigan HS prospect rankings for the Class of 2011:

2012:

As well as 2013:

-- Xavier fans seem to think that their recruit Jalen Reynolds has a shot at Mr. Basketball in Michigan this year.

Ain’t gonna happen.

First of all, Reynolds sat out last year after he transferred. Secondly, how is Jalen going to possibly displace four time All-State selection LaDontae “Buckets” Henton who is putting up 30 a night and grabbing rebounds like he’s picking daisies?

-- Zagsblog weighs in with the story of how Twitter and Facebook are causing HS and college coaches major headaches. Is it any wonder that BG told his guys to de-Tweet back in July?

-- UD still has to play the Duquesne Dukes twice this season and the guy that makes them go is freshman TJ McConnell:

You can blame Mrs. Swampy on this one as she and TJ share a surname and are distant cousins.

-- Speaking of my better half, she and I just about fell out of our seats at the NCAA games held in UD Arena back in 1973 when we first heard this cheer:

-- This video goes a long way to explain everything that is wrong with the mental makeup of many of today’s HS hoopsters:

-- Turns out that the gentleman who plays “The Most Interesting Man in the World” (Aaron Goldsmith) in the Dos Equis TV and radio spots is actually a pretty intriguing character in real life:

-- Back in the ‘50s and ‘60s, every kid had certain automobiles that they totally lusted after. Mine were the 1955-57 “Baby Bird” two-seater Ford Thunderbirds. Then there were the dream rides that had something about them that just made you say “I want one of those someday.” For me, that car was the 1957 Ford Skyliner hardtop convertible, a mechanical marvel even today. Here’s how it (sometimes) worked:

One of those babies sold for $34,000 at the Barrett-Jackson classic car auction in Scottsdale the other day which, to me at least, seems cheap.

Just another dream car unfulfilled, right?

Perhaps not.

What do I drive today?

A Chrysler Sebring hardtop convertible.

That’s it “From the Swamp.”
