This is where AG needs to realize he has timeouts and can’t wait on media timeout with a short bench.

Oh well...this game was there for the taking and we just did not step up and take it. We had our chances, but we literally let this one slip away.
Time to regroup and get ready for another tough one on the road this weekend.

The plan was to get the ball into Crutcher but he was guarded. Ball went to Cunningham. The play broke down. Crutcher has to go get the ball immediately. He did not.

Clearly that was terrible execution. Cunningham caught it and held it for 3 seconds while staring at Jalen. Young team, still learning to close. That was a tough 4-5 minutes by Jalen

I thought the turning point was going to be when Obi picked up #4. But they bounced back nicely led by Mikesell. Turns out it was when all they could get was a 3-point chuck coming out of the timeout at 69-all. Crutcher should have been driving when the clock hit 7 seconds. This one will hurt for the team but I walk away encouraged. Just don’t let VCU beat you again this weekend. Turn the page!

Great game, hard fought effort, but Dayton couldn’t set an offensive play or make a shot to save their lives in the last 3 or 4 minutes. Offense was completely stagnant, while Evans scores 7 straight points in crunch time to seal it.

The last few minutes we played our horrendous slow down game, which consistently fails us. We put a bow on this one and handed it to them.

From the 10 minutes to go mark till 33 seconds we led, mostly, or were tied. Then we did not finish in the last 33 seconds. Giving Evans that much space to shoot that three was poor defense and lazy defense.
And we failed to score in the last four minutes at crunch time, other than the meaningless layup at the end.
This on is on Grant for not having the plays to run and the players who did not execute.

No...the bow was an NBA 3 that went in. That shot clanks and we win!

Went about as expected. Tough place to play, both teams played hard. VCU needed their best 3 pt night to win. Otherwise UD wins going away.

I think the lack of depth really burned us this game

I thought the officiating was pretty balanced. It was a high energy and at times frantic game. Plenty of fouls called on VCU as well.

Yep. Need more than one point combined from Cohill and Frankie. Especially Cohill

Another failure in the final stretch of the game. I have no faith in our ability to execute in crunch time. Must improve.

It wasn’t even close to well officiated. UD averages 13 fouls, tonight 21 (to VCU’s 19). I saw lots of aggressive fouls with 2 on 1 only to see UD called- the Landers call was an example. I’ll just disagree and move on. We handed this game to VCU but refs didn’t help

It’s tough when the D turns the screws in the last couple minutes. Need to have a guard that can penetrate and play through contact and/or a knock down three point stud. We don’t have either (yet).

This one will hurt for the team but I walk away encouraged. Just don’t let VCU beat you again this weekend. Turn the page!

After Evans got his fourth foul, I thought Crutcher should’ve been driving the lane on every play.

You're giving the D too much credit. We stopped being aggressive and settled for 3's. Did the same thing when we blew the lead verse Miss State. Too many empty possessions.

UD Does Not Finish Games
because the coaching staff does not appear to prepare them to finish games in practice. Most winning teams drill end game situations. They know who will take shots and what kind of shots. Yet the Dayton staff did not call time out (Landers had to call it) and remind them of the play to run. AG becomes walking man on the sideline and goes into a trance while his team struggles to score. UD does not know how to win close games nor does the coaching staff.

Yes, I'm disappointed in the outcome. Yes, we didn't make the plays at the end to seal the deal.
But this team is still light years ahead of where I thought they'd be. We just went into arguably the toughest place to play in the A-10 (aside from UD Arena) and played a very good team (likely the #1 seed seven weeks from now) even until the final seconds.
We have no depth. We have one senior. We have two true front court players in the lineup. We have six players who started their basketball careers elsewhere (only one is able to play right now). Yet with all those headwinds, this team has found a way to jell and likely challenge for an A-10 crown.
I want to win. I want to make the NCAA this year. I think this team can do that. If it can't, they'll still be a pretty darn good Flyer basketball team.
Let's beat the Bonnies at the North Pole this Saturday.

You have to be kidding. That was one...one shot. Nothing of our inability to score for literally minutes? Nothing of the ill-advised shots that weren't even close to on target? Nothing of how many of those shots were remarkably reminiscent of the same junk shots we take in late-half situations when we are also killing clock?
We're horrible at it. Let's face it.
