No. Overall record has to be .500 or better. Maybe it should be that way, but then half the P5 would lose bids. Because, as some say, if you can't beat most of your conference, who will get into the NCAA, it shows that you can't beat teams in the NCAA.

You have 5 non-p5 teams, at rpi 44 or worse, getting at large bids from 2007-2016.
Meanwhile, I bet at least 5 p5 teams, at rpi 44 or worse, in every one of the years from 2007-2016, got at large bids.

There are a couple of teams in the ACC that have a legitimate shot at going 7-11 in the conference and getting an at-large.
