La Salle Game Thread
Awesome two game NY road trip... Guys played great. They return home with a matchup against La Salle on Wednesday night at 7.
The Explorers are coming off a big convincing win at home against GW.
Starting Lineup:
G 2 Amar Stukes 6’2” 180 RS FR Philadelphia, PA
G 3 Cleon Roberts 6’5” 175 RS SO Miami, FL
G 21 Jordan Price 6’5” 220 RS SO Decatur, GA
F 25 Jerrell Wright 6’8” 245 SR Philadelphia, PA
C 0 Steve Zack 6’11” 240 SR New Cumberland, PA
Price is big time... 3rd in the league in scoring at 17.3 PPG.
Also, Wright & Zack in the frontcourt will definitely be a solid challenge for Pierre, Pollard & Wehrli.
Hopefully we finally get to see the UD debut of Mr. Rogers.
Go UD! Keep it going!

This is a tough matchup for Dayton. I like KDavis on Price and expect Price to be held below his season average or have to get up a lot more shots to get there. Cleon Roberts has given them a reliable option on offense the last couple of weeks.
What really scares me is the combination of Zack and Terrell, both of whom eat up the glass. Especialy in a double team or fronting situation, Dayton could be very vulnerable to weak side offensive rebounds. On the flip side, Flyers guards are much stronger to the glass then LAS backcourt.
Dr G likes to run a pro-style flex offense so they'll post up their guards and run a lot of 2-man action. That should not present a problem with Dayton switching most screens. LAS guards are not reliable feeding the post consistently and their guards have a quick trigger
Flyers will be in trouble if Stukes and/or Roberts score in bunches and Terrell/Zack control the offensive glass getting easy stick backs.

A request to those at our game against LaSalle: I am asking you to get seriously intent on rooting. It only takes a few, maybe even one of you to make a commitment to help the team win.
You know fan participation can be infectious. Do it!

I have a commitment to "help the team" at every game. The man in front of me usually puts his finger in his ear. (He has never told me to quiet down though). My friends sit behind me at the women's games.

In 2009 I went to my only Flyer game ever against Towson. I think We were down 19 with about 8 or 9 minutes to go. A few people even left the arena; it was quiet as a morgue.
I said to the guy who had sold me an extra ticket that I did not come here to lose. He looked at me as if I was crazy, and said, "They already lost!"
(understand, I can be reticent to be vocal.)
I looked him back with fire in my belly and said with absolute conviction, "They are going to win!" And, with unbending will I went raving lunatic screaming the Flyers on. Immediately, whether by chance or whatever, I noticed a change in dynamics. People did look at me askance for several minutes, but a few picked up on the change of momentum and started joining me. I had a whole section going before the arena went nuts in our comeback to win that one.
I have learned quite a bit about unbending intent. If the Flyers win the next two, I will assist willing our victory at Davidson. Make those two happen Lifelong Flyer Fan.

It's been a long time since we've had a quiet arena. I jump up and down and scream a lot for every game and so do most of the people around us. I don't think cheering will be a problem after the stupendous job our players and coaches have done since the purge. I'm hoping Rogers will be more than just a warm body tonight and Baby D keeps up his amazing 3pt shooting. I have butterflies in my stomach just thinking about TWO games at home this week, lol. Even when we win, those road trips seem sooo long. I scream and jump up and down when they are on TV, but it's not the same as when they can hear me and the rest of the crowd. I will say that the crowd at Fordam sounded impressive. One Fordam fan said it was like being at a road game. D) How wonderful for Scootchie's family to see him shine in person.

When you stand up and scream in support of our/my Flyers, do you yell in layman's terms? or do you use the King's English? or something Shakespearian?? Klingon??
Or do you just use a bunch of 1- and 2-syllable words like the rest of us?
Maybe you could type in a few of your favorite 'screams' in a reply...

From the DDN game preview:
"Detwon Rogers is hopeful to make his season debut after nursing back from a knee injury."

Swoon Game?
This game may be trouble for Dayton. LaSalle's coach and team like to play in the arena and really get up for UD. LaSalle has bigs who can be effective if their guards can get them the ball. Hopefully this will play into the strength of Dayton's defense and will be neutralized. Finally, Dayton played so well last week on the road that improvement even at home may not be possible. I like UD to win the game but it may be a nail biter.

Every conference game is trouble. If UD plays anywhere near as good as the last several games, it will be a 15-20 point win. Just as Duke and UK have found out, any team can give you a game if you do not come to play. The two games this week at home are on our team to perform.

This is true.
The last time the Flyers lost to La Salle at UD Arena was on February 27, 1999. Since that game, we are 17-3 against La Salle, with the 3 losses on the road in '06, '08 and '13.
Interestingly, between March 1952 and including that February 1999 game, the Flyers were all-time 8-11 against La Salle. It took the Flyers until January 23, 2002 to have a lead in the all-time series.

Yes. I refreshed the browser and it worked for a minute, then froze again. Even when not frozen, the video isn't great, especially compared to the Fordham game.

They're daring our guards to drive with all the overplaying. We need Smith and Davis and Davis to extend the handoffs to about 35 feet and then go hard to the hole

Actually I'll take it. 2 points down shooting 34/25/40 is a gift. We could be 10-12 down easily.
Fugly offensive half.

25-23 La Salle at the half... Not bad considering we shot 34.5% and 25% from 3
Our starting 3 guards have 5 pts on 2-10 shooting, must be better

Something in Jordan's movement leads me to think he is hurting or sick.

3-12 on threes and 35% shooting will not get it done. Not doing much wrong except not shooting well. We have got to get DD more shots.

We're taking bad shots, at least 5 of those 3 pointers were contested or out of rhythm.

That fast break pass from Scoochie to Pierre was faster than the camera. Couldn't even see who he was passing to when he let it go.
Dayton up 2.

Scoochie says up on my shoulders you go.
He is carrying the team in the 2nd half.

What a turnaround!
La Salle free 3 on 1 turns into a Kendall block!
Fast break the other way into a potential 3-pt play for Schoochie!

Missed free throw, but it's 39-33 Dayton.
Another block for Kendall!
41-33 after Sibert's drive.

Sibert really taking it to the hole tough and hard. Huge credit to him for adding that to his repertoire this season.

My feed is pretty grainy. It'd be helpful if Hartsock would stop saying "Davis" and say a first name.

Looked a little shell shocked when Jordan first went out. Getting the mojo back now. Good to see Sibert back on the bench at least.

Jordan is killing the offensive flow, he should be on the bench resting unless it's an emergency. He could further hurt himself too.

Hard to pick a POG. Scooch ruled the second half with 16 pts, but Pierre made some huge baskets attacking the 6'11" stiff.

I wish we had a 6'11" stiff. Even if he was a walkon.
