Welcome back DP

Can't believe I get to start this thread. Without him tonight, I'm afraid we may have lost this game. Yes, he was missed. I'm glad the home crowd gave him the welcome back he deserved. A10 starts very soon and DP's 33 minutes tonight tell me he wasn't sitting around eating donuts. I don't think his game looked any less than what I remembered at the end of last year.

Dyshawn didn't show a whole lot of rust. His three in the 2nd half was huge. Seeing his patented drive from the key for a bucket was a sight for sore eyes. I noticed Cooke sink a couple off Pierre's assists on kick outs. Didn't get his rebound totals but I felt we'd have gotten handled inside on both ends without him. Especially with Steve in big foul trouble. Overall I was impressed by his floor game considering this was his 1st game of the year.

You must have watched a different game than I did. While Pierre was dependable tonight, it was no where near what he's capable of (or what he did for us late last year - see Providence) and I'm certain if you ask him, he was less than proud of the quality of his game tonight. For someone who hasn't practiced more than 6 times with the team this year, it was a good game, but he will give us far better games going forward. He missed more jumpers than I have ever seen him miss in a row.

I think his floor game was respectable overall, and while he didn't put up his usual stats he was a presence in the post, most notably the high post. It was a shot in the arm when our three chief post players are giving out fouls like Santa gives kids like rollo coal for Christmas. At a rampant rate. He didn't have the numbers but you don't have to have the numbers as long as someone does. 85 points tells me his presence was a positive one considering the foul trouble. And he was a great facilitator amongst his new counterparts. I give him a B.

DP didn't come back to Dayton to play like he did tonight. He will be better as conference games begin

The guy is simply the missing link to our offense. He just knows when to penetrate. When to swing it. When to shoot it. When to make the extra pass. He doesn't catch the ball and stand there. He acts. And his versatility moves mountains for us. He posts up. He hits the 12 footer. He hits the three pointer. And he can pass better than he can shoot. It seemed like he created and assisted on more baskets than the box score showed. No, he didn't light it up tonight. But a few of those shots trickled in and out. He played strong for us and there's no way we'd have won that game without him.

The first time DP kicked the ball out to a teammate for a wide open three I thought to myself 'that's what this team has been missing.'

I thought DP played well for first time back. He did not try and immediately insert himself as the star of the team that he is and play like he did last year. Overall I thought he blended in well, moved the ball and did everything expected of him after a layoff. I was surprised he was left in as long as he was. How great would it have been if he had hit that shot to win in regulation.

A key factor in DP's return is his recovery from game to game. I'm sure the coaches are tracking DP's recovery at this early stage of his return. We'll get to witness how in-shape he is and how much stamina he has after playing 33 minute last night with a 2:30 PM road game on Saturday. It's not like the NBA back to back games, but still recovery is key to performing at a consistent high level. Hopefully he'll have an even bigger impact on Saturday.

^And considering the type of play it was- basically a miracle play scenario- it's amazing he got off the shot that he did. Had he hit that shot- the arena roof would have blown off.

For those that follow the NBA, I see Pierre as Dayton's version of Draymond Green. Green allows the Warriors to go small because of his versatility. I think the loss of all big men last year forced Dayton to find their best lineup by going small. Pierre and Pollard can guard big centers but most centers have a hard time matching the speed and versatility of the smaller Dayton front court.

The team showed glimpses of what that lineup can put together this year.

Glad you saw that too. Cooke-Dyshawn- Pollard all had that low post far corner ball movement we haven't seen.

Guys are LOOKING for each other and know their patterns and placement.

Who else things ball movement was 3x as good as normal. Wow.

DP is also physically TOUGH. Similar to Kendall. Getting his mojo on.

Very exciting game. WE can now resume the Elite 8/Final 4 dream again, now that DP is back. NO way we win without him.

TRUE Team!

Great analysis PJ. He's a Draymond/ also that bald 6 foot 6 Duke player (forgot his name) type of player. Great tough rebounder, moves the ball. And huge Basketball IQ. Probably surpasses Scoochie for bb IQ. Amazing player, we are so fortunate to have him.

Welcome Back Dyshawn

Just happy to have DP back. I wouldn't have cared if it was the worse game he ever played. He deserved to be back . . he deserved never to be gone in the first place.

The crowd support was not because fans wanted to win the game. It was because we all felt an injustice had been done.

DP, you showed class and guts to forgive and come back and we thank you.
