OK, but putting a First Four in the West... there usually are less teams from the West in the tournament. So they should put it in the Mid-South or something. Dallas. But not Far West like California, or you are just creating a problem.

This is all a setup to put the Flyers in the First "Eight" any year they are tourney worth but not have them play at UD Arena.

They wouldn't have to go far far west. lots of venues from Houston to Salt Lake. Funny thing, when I was at Dayton, many New York students said they came to UD because they wanted to go west to college.
But I'm not on board with this:
Buffalo coach Nate Oats said the idea to expand to 72 is not something that came up in the Mid-American Conference meetings, but he would be in favor of a proposal that would help more mid-major teams reach the NCAA tournament.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Nice guy, but disillusioned Coach Oats. The Power conferences all see them getting four more schools in the draw.

The problem is, if they add four more tourney spots, my guess is it averages out to 3+ of those spots go the the 5 Football conference schools every year.
Now if as part of this expansion, they also said that any team that does not finish with a winning record in their own conference (they can even count tourney games if they want) is not eligible for an at large bid, I would be all for it. Of course my idea will never happen.

Must have been proposed by someone at UNC that took a fake math class.
Adding 4 teams does not make another first 4. It makes a first 2.
You need 76 teams to get to another first 4.

If you have 72 teams in the field, you need eight to lose to get the field down to 64 on Thursday. Eight losers = eight games = two "first fours"

Your math is wrong. When they added the first four you went from 64/65 to 68. You need to think through the math. Each game that is added only adds one team because the other team that would have had that slot, now has to play a game to get that slot.

But it may be less travel time to go from a 1st 4 game in the west to a Western NCAA site

If you added another First Four you could have eight 11 seeds (instead of 4) and eight 16 seeds (instead of 4) in the two First Fours. You would initially have only 56 teams in the regular bracket (instead of 60) and 16 First Four teams - 72 total. You would have no 11 seeds in the initial bracket (instead of 2) and no 16 seeds (instead of 2). The eight 11 seeds would be the last eight at-large teams. The eight 16 seeds would be the eight worst teams. The four 11 seeds winning their First Four game would go into the final bracket on the 11 line. The four 16 seeds winning their First Four game would go into the final bracket on the 16 line. The final bracket would then have 64 teams.
