Golden The Future is Bright Award - Fordham
I'm sure udscott will find something to complain about after today's win vs Fordham, but the King sees young players putting up really good numbers and getting invaluable experience that will do nothing but make us A10 contenders in 2018-19. Yes, you can quote me and take that comment to the royal Bank.
So whose future looks the brightest based on today's win...it's your call.
Go Flyer...My Flyers!!!

Wow, Flyers beat Fordham at home by 10 points. Excuse me while I try to reserve my tickets in Minneapolis for April 2019.

Trey Landers, Jordan Davis and Cunningham. Maybe Archie didn't quit recruiting and left AG with something.
Team award & AG for not losing to Fordham at home and keeping themselves 2 games out last place in the A10

What? Can't be. You mean to tell me that the majority of ticket buying Flyers fans don't realize that this season is all Archie Miller's fault?

Screw the naysayers! A win is a win! Voted Landers, as he brought his A Game on offense tonight. His brother Robert was there tonight, and he seems to play his best when Big Bro is in the house. Regardless, quite the stat line. Nice game, Mr. Landers!

No, you don't understand. Seeing the fans here get all giddy over a win against the last place team in the conference on our home court makes me laugh. Laughter cheers me up. What we will most likely see in RI is no laughing matter.

I never expected Crosby to be great but I'm shocked how far he's fallen since Ball St. Westerfield playing in the first half makes me wonder if he's ever on the floor again
If Trey can improve his shot in the offseason he'll be a load next season

Yeah, if playing Westerfield over Crosby tonight didn’t get the latter’s attention, then nothing will. Pretty sad situation, really.

I take great joy in any win, no matter who it's over, and consequently, my vote is for Trey Landers, who scored a career high. Had he not had first half foul trouble, might have hit 30 tonight.

It seems to be between Crutcher and Landers. I can't vote till I know who was guarding, or not guarding, Fordam's Chartouny, especially in the second half. I only heard the game on radio. The kid is a great defensive player leading the nation in steals, and according to Bucky shut down DD, but he is not a stud on offense. Anyone know?

I loved Brooks Hall comment on Flyer feedback about Westerfield/Crosby: "I don't care what he (AG) says, it was absolutely a message sent"

Beat ( barely ) mighty Fordham 9/17, 4/10 in conference, the #268 RPI team at home with 13,400 fans in the seats. Very impressive!!! I am so stoked for the rest of the season and the next few years. Stay the course. The future is so bright I'm buying shares in sunglass companies. Gonna be hard to keep our kid from jumping to the NBA.

I’m guessing that his attitude and effort in practice have been improving. If they weren’t, I doubt he’d have seen the floor last night.
To that end, I looked over at the bench when Fordham was making its run late in the game, and nearly everyone was on the edge of his seat, except for 2 large guys, who were leaning back with their arms sprawled over the seats on either side of them (and neither was named Kostas). Draw your own conclusions.

If you read these quotes from other players it is crystal clear how you earn playing time...and bench time.

Sounds like professionalism, hard work, sticking to the game plan, and respect for the coaches are what earn PT in the AG system. If you don’t do all of those (and do them well), then don’t bother to remove your warmups.

But hail AG for developing a plan to allow landers the freedom and driving lanes early in the game.

Reasonable, given what we had seen of him. He has worked hard and far surpassed expectations and I for one am very happy for him and for the team to have him.

I can see that, but not completely because a number of us indicated early on that we saw Landers as the emerging Kyle Davis of the team; only with more height and bulk. And many folks said no-way no-how.

But we were up 17 with 11 minutes left. Young teams lose focus.
It really is true, people can't even enjoy a win now.
Being a Clemson football fan and being on here has really opened my eyes to how toxic online "fan culture" is now.
Take the transformation of Clemson football, from a team that had an adjective that defined choking in big moments ("Clemsoning"), to a team that just made the College Football Playoff 3 straight years.
In this long process, they started as a mildly successful, but ultimately mediocre program.
Online, it was more like:
If you are a loser, fans just want the team to win.
Once the team starts winning, fans want the top 10.
Once you make the top 10, fans want a national championship.
Once you win a national championship, fans want you to beat everyone by 40.
When you don't beat everyone by 40, or God forbid LOSE A GAME, a lot of fans lose it.
Nobody can be happy with winning. It is not easy to win a game. You see, the other team is out there and also trying to win.
Yes, this season has been a big ol' letdown. But for God's sakes, can't we even enjoy one GD win?? Apparently not, because we didn't win by enough. Jesus.

Are you a Reds fan. You can dance around and celebrate like you're at a Greek wedding about 70 times a year if you are.
This season is a lost cause and seeing you guys all giddy due to a home win over the last place team in the conference just emphasizes this. Beating Fordham while having trouble with just about every other team in the conference just means we haven't reached rock bottom. Celebrating not reaching rock bottom is for the Fordhams of the basketball world, on those few seasons that they don't. But go on, party hard. To each their own.

Jesus.

You're reading a bit much into my comments here, aren't you?
I said I was unimpressed. Do you realize that Fordham was playing multiple walkons just to field a team? UD -- in front of 13K fans -- with 3* and 4* recruits -- was playing what amounts to an above average intramural team down at the PAC.
Now don't get me wrong, every dog has his day. Once in a while the intramural team is pretty good and can't miss. If this was that one day, and UD had that one off day, and we still won by 10, I'd say "meh."
This was not 1 day. This is a season-long day.
There is no amount of sugar you can coat this with where UD is playing up to expectations this year. Did I expect an NCAA appearance last year? You betcha. This year? I was *hoping* for NIT as a stretch (but not expecting it). So it's not like I'm bashing every player left and right because we're not #1 in the A10. There's no vile, "toxic fan culture" here.
I said I was unimpressed.

We win a game, I'm going to be happy. If you don't like it, continue on being miserable. I certainly won't stop you, but I will make fun of you.
I'm sure Grant is not going to apologize for not winning by 20.
Fordham had at least 6 scholarship players. I seem to remember a team making the NCAA Third Round with 6 scholarship players. That's certainly enough to win a game.
Any win, especially this year, deserves to be enjoyed. Am I happy with the season as a whole? No. But a single win in the grand scheme deserves to be enjoyed considering the reality of this season. No one is going to snap their fingers and make this a tournament team. If you want to be ticked about all year, then enjoy your misery.

And again, you're proving you're the one who's ticked, unreasonable, and miserable. When such a benign comment can send you into outer space you're clearly not calm and restrained. You're batsh** crazy.
I will not be defined by your nutty characterization. You will not find examples of me going nuts on this team this year. You will not find examples of me saying Grant is a terrible coach and should be fired. Or that we should clean house. I really don't participate in any of those conversations because I think nut job fans (like you're behaving) don't understand how small a sample size we've seen from Grant so far, so I have very minimal comments until probably next year.
But I say "meh" one time and you paint me with the "toxic" and "bitter" brush. Yeah, maaayyyybeeee I'm not the one who's a little uptight and not sitting back to enjoy this year for what it is.
