Season Starts for Real on Saturday
Finally, league play starts this Saturday with St. Louis. We've all seen this movie before. A great occ resume that is followed by a terrible performance in league play. It's time for UD to take that next step forward and take care of business in league play. Lock up that NCAA bid with a 11-5 season.
St. Louis is the only thing we have left that resembles a rivalry game this year and it's big RPI points. We have to protect our home court. I'm hoping for a sold out and rocking UD Arena on Saturday. Please tell me the students will be back for this game. If UD wants to impress the Big East...it starts Saturday because they'll be watching.

If you are a top BCS conference it is true. However, in the A10 you had better have done a lot of heavy lifting in the OOC because you are a lot more likely to play your way out than play your way in.

I vote for focusing less on the Big East and more on winning the conference we're in...

I agree. Nothing else means squat if we don't do well in the conference and it's been a long time since that has happened. Focus on the next game and don't worry about anything else. Our guys have the potential to win most of the next 16 games, which is not unusual. Maybe this season it WILL be different. Hope springs eternal!

I agree.
I personally don't like the title of this thread. The season started for real a couple months ago. The OOC matters greatly to non-BCS teams.
But, for sure, UD needs to perform better in the A10.

This has probably already been posted elsewhere.
Per http://www.rpiforecast.com/teams/Dayton.html
if they go 11-5 in the A10, they end up at 23-8 with a rpi of 34.
10-6 gets you to 22-9 with a rpi of 41
9-7 gets you to 21-10 with a rpi of 50.
So, 11-5 gets you in.
10-6 might leave you on the bubble having to perform well in the A10 tournament and even that might not be enough.
9-7 means that you probably have to win the A10 tournament.

Pretty clear what we have to do. There isn't much room for error. If we play hard, smart defense....we win.
If we don't.....another trip to the NIT.

10-12 wins should do it, but total number of wins is not as critical as where those wins come from.
Here is an conference RPI analysis I did the day after Ole Miss.

What can I say it was cold outside and I have issues.

Its Monday and Im already jacked for this game. We need to get to 1-0 in the league and no better team to do it against that St. Louis, perhaps the favorite alongside UMass.
I hope we sell the joint out. We have four monster league games at home vs. NCAA competitors. We need at LEAST three Ws. A sweep is better.

Yup, the architect of "Throw it in His Face" basketball has been brought back from the grave to the very place where he perfected his art, by none other than the late Rick Majerus.
Basketball Zombies, anyone?
Can he succeed? Along with his disciple, the Mighty (we never foul...ever!) Mack?
Jungle rules sportsmanship ("Then break his **** nose if you have to") was a bad idea back in the 80's. This guy should be selling used cars or cheating old ladies out of their pensions...not coaching impressionable young minds on an athletic team.
I stand by that...

Is UD doing a red out or white out for this game? I prefer the white out with the rally towels or balloons.
I really think UD needs to do everything they can to get people pumped up for this game. Hopefully, the majority of the Red Scare gets back to campus for this rivalry game. We desperately need the home court advantage this weekend. I am preparing myself for another meat grinder game with the first team to 60 wins.

My wife and I are rocking red unless told otherwise. I hope we play better than we did Saturday, and remember/learn to hit free throws!

the first two game are huge. Prove they can off a tough quality team at home and a mediocre opponent on the road. The exact kind of games that they have struggled to win the few years.

Speaking of foul shots, when we left Maui we were shooting 73% from the foul line. Since returning to the mainland, we're shooting 60%.

I love the fact that we can refer to Fordham as mediocre. They have made some improvements. This is a huge game to kick off the A10. SLU is the best opponent to come to UD so far this year.
URI is going to be a handful for SLU this evening.
