I love hearing about DP's goals. IMO he's going to go down as one of the greatest Flyers ever. So versatile. So cool under pressure. From the get go you could tell he was going to be great. Breaking into the starting lineup early his freshman season. Taking over games that year. The clutch FT shooting in the dance his 2nd season and playing our center position last year. It's all going to add up to one gigantic senior year.

Dyshawn Pierre and Kendall Pollard are going to be lethal. LETHAL.
Mark these words down right now:
This team with Archie at the helm and KP and DP shouldering the load with Scoochie at Floor general is going to the Final Four. Book it.

Out of necessity, DP's exposure on offense to the low post, and conquering those new moves, is probably one of the best things that ever could have happened to him. He ate a lot of balls learning the trade, but in the end he had some Velvet moves.

So, you enjoy eating balls? Not that there is anything wrong with that.

He must change his free-throw shooting stroke. Otherwise, he will be stuck in the 50-60 percent range. It is very difficult to develop any type of consistency with that akward stroke.

I concur with the enthusiasm and the potential. Along the way there has to be more than a little luck to go with the skill and execution. The difference between the Sweet Sixteen and one-n-done can be when one team makes a last second winning shot, and another team misses it (Buffalo). Need some luck on injuries, not that they won't happen because they always do. But hopefully they aren't season ending, or taking a key player out of one of the "must win" games. People like to say you make your own luck, but it's not that easy when it comes to injuries.
Archie was very candid when he said the staff were in a "panic" all season non-stop covering the contingencies and what-ifs.

Indeed he was pretty open with that line. I wasn't expecting that line, I was expecting to read something like 'We played the hand we were dealt, everyone has injuries'. Nice to have a coach who actually answers most questions straight up.

Some coaches are very accessible to the media and grant interviews all the time. Yet with their coach speak, they give you very little. Archie may not like giving interviews, but he gives straight answers when he does do them, and that is refreshing. Of course, it's important to read these insights with the understanding that he's giving the best answer to questions at the time they're asked. For example, Archie not really pursuing fifth year guys. He has valid reasons for not pursuing them, but if a guy he really likes comes available tomorrow, thinking can change.

Two other items today that complemented the 5th year transfer mention in the blog:
- the incoming guys are all going to be good players... deserve a chance to see if they can earn their keep.
- the returners will be hard to dismantle

If you watch the NCAA tournament games the past two years (I have watched them plenty), check out Archie's halftime 1 minute interview in our games. In my opinion, he gives the reporter 10x more detail in his responses then any other coach (or in Duke's case, assistant).
He's a basketball savant.

If we make it to Final 4, you can bet the ranch that Archie will not even make it back to Dayton before being swallowed up.

I disagree with this. I believe it would make him even more reluctant to leave.

With only one impact player leaving next season, Dayton gives Arch no reasons to leave. Many more reasons to stay, particularly if we would make a F4.

Final four? Possible, we along with 300 odd teams have a shot. However I will refrain from betting my 40 acres on it.

Actually, if you believe we are lock for the tournament beyond the play-in games, we are only a 1 in 16 shot to make the Final 4. To go further, if we get past the first tournament game, we are a 1 in 8 shot to make the Final 4!
With Archie driving the tractor, I'd bet an acre or two on that!

Final 4 talk. I love it. So refreshing after all the gloom and doom of 17-19 win predictions the past two years.
