Facts
1. Clock is ticking. This hire better be good.
2. AM did a lot for UD, but that ship has sailed. He is not up for sainthood, is he?
3. UMass has now hired TWO quality head coaches. TWO! UD, not so much.
4. I thought we were a "destination"
5. MW is a kid, free to make his own decisions.
6. I am fine with any road he takes, unless it is to Bloomington
7. There is no perfect HC candidate out there, all have flaws
8. Well, except for this Ray Harper guy evidently
9. We are probably not in this mess if we are the Big East.
10. I have been drinking.

I hope you are drinking Schlitz right now and saving the Pappy Van Winkle's 20 year old Family Reserve for when the announcement is made!
Let me add that I hope the announcement is worth some Pappy's!
Neil has an ace up his sleeve, right???

I'm thinking this post is worthy of earning you Knighthood and a permanent seat at the Royal Roundtable...but I'm going to sleep on it. Stay tuned.

Is Lonergan totally damaged goods? Was he any worse than Knight as far as abusing players? Would we consider Knight for one year for the helluva it, while the search committee finds a right fit. I'm just spitballing. What about the coach at Saint Mary's . . . who I think was under consideration when Archie was hired six years ago?

I think one of the first questions in the interview process is actually "are you a worse human being than Bobby Knight?"
But you know we really should have put out a fake tweet or something suggesting that Bobby Knight was going to be introduced as the next UD coach with an introductory press conference at the exact time Archie was introduced as IU coach. Just to mess with those Hoosier baztards. That would have been fun.

Valid points, but Kelsey is not a quality coach that can be inserted into any discussion comparing UD and UMass...that dude is damaged goods.
Three fingers of Johnny Walker on the rocks for that one.

He's damaged goods only because he left UMass after committing for some reason. My point was they have acted TWICE already and we are in a holding pattern of some sort.

Kelsey was a great hire when Umass hired him, right up until 15 minutes before his introductory press conference. You can't blame them for that one. I honestly think Pat Kelsey would be the coach at Dayton right now if he had never flirted with Umass.

UMass was NOT the first incident in which something went wrong with Kelsey during the hiring process. The other incident is not public knowledge. Got the info from another basketball school that tried to interview him.
There is a problem there.

from 2011 ...
checked back in the archives ...
GT hired Gregory on Monday 3/28, and UD's job remained vacant until Sunday April 3 of Final 4 weekend -- a full week. Reported we talked to Steve Wojciechowski among others, who ultimately withdrew his name.
A week isn't too long if we get it right. This is a BIG SPOT for a young Athletic Director. I hope UD is getting input from Tim Wabler, Ted Kissell, and anyone else with a qualified opinion.
Anthony Grant with Tom Ostrom as Associate Head Coach is the best I've heard, short of a dark horse emerging.
Just imagine if we hired Bob Huggins instead of Jim O'Brien in 1989, Mike Deane vs Oliver Purnell in 1994, Ron Jirsa vs Brian Gregory in 2002 ...

Below from a 2011 link of UD candidates ... funny to look back. Billy Schmidt would have been the in-house "stability candidate". Percy Gibson and LaDontae Henton were ultimately released from their LOI's without restriction, I believe.
http://collegesportsinfo.com/2011/02...al-candidates/
Archie Miller (Arizona assistant), Matthew Graves (Butler assistant), Billy Schmidt (Dayton assistant), John Groce (Ohio coach), Gary Waters (Cleveland St. coach), Rob Jeter (Wisconsin-Milwaukee coach), Keith Dambrot (Akron coach), Billy Kennedy (Murray St. coach), Chris Collins (Duke assistant), Greg Kampe (Oakland coach), Jim Christian (TCU coach), Porter Moser (St. Louis assistant)
Longshots: Donnie Tyndall (Morehead St. coach), Gregg Marshall (Wichita St. coach), Tommy Amaker (Harvard coach), Blaine Taylor (ODU coach)
No longer a candidate: Steve Wojciechowski (Duke assistant)

He had a lot of talent coming back and his team fell apart this year. Most of the upperclassmen are Wade's guys too
He seems overrated to me

Votes are in.
And your application to the Royal Roundtable has been REJECTED! We've just got too many Royal drunks already...
Better luck next season!
