New Mexico Lobos
Last Season: 30-5 (14-2)
Key Losses: Darington Hobson, Roman Martinez
Head Coach: Steve Alford
Projected Starting Lineup
PG: Dairese Gary 6-1 Sr.
SG: Phillip McDonald 6-5 Jr.
SF: Tony Snell 6-7 Fr.
PF: Emmanuel Negedu 6-7 So.
C: AJ Hardeman 6-8 Jr.
Key Reserves: Drew Gordon 6-9 Jr. PF, Jamal Fenton 5-9 So. PG, Alex Kirk 6-11 Fr. C, Kendall Williams 6-3 Fr. PG
Nobody outside of New Mexico thought the Lobos were going to have the success they had last season. They were projected to finish fifth in the Mountain West. They not only won the Mountain West, winning 30 games overall and going 14-2 in conference play, but they finished the season ranked in the top 10 in the country and got a No. 3 seed in the NCAA tournament.
After narrowly escaping No. 14 seed Montana in the first round, 62-57, the Lobos were eliminated by Washington in the second round, 82-64. With senior leader Roman Martinez and versatile star.........

http://www.collegehoopsnet.com/43-ne...preview-168793
Conference Rank: #4 Mountain West Conference 2009-10: 30-5, 14-2
2009-10 postseason: NCAA
Coach: Steve Alford (76-26 at New Mexico, 384-209 overall)
Coach Steve Alford has done a tremendous job at New Mexico, but he has a lot to live up to after leading the Lobos to a 30-5 record last season. Losing Darington Hobson and Roman Martinez, who were the team’s top two scorers and rebounders last season, will definitely hurt, but by March this team will be worthy of another trip to the NCAA Tournament.
Final Projection:
There are some new faces that Coach Alford will have to integrate into the team, but the case was the same last year and New Mexico had a great season. This team will not win 30 games, but they will be very good once Gordon and the rest of the frontcourt adjust to their roles in December and January. By that time the freshmen should be in full swing and suddenly New Mexico will be one of the better teams in a very tough conference.
Projected Post-season Tournament: NCAA
Projected Starting Five:
Dairese Gary, Senior, Guard, 13.1 ppg
Phillip McDonald, Junior, Guard, 10.4 ppg
Tony Snell, Freshman, Guard, DNP last season
Emmanuel Negedu, Sophomore, Forward, DNP last season
A.J. Hardeman, Junior, Forward, 7.0 ppg

Another big one.
BTW - Bucky sounds like poop on the pre-game show. Someone, at the Arena, needs to slip him a boilermaker to help his cold. A win will also help him quite a bit, I'm sure.
Get better, Bucky!

Not to mention NM is an atrocious rebounding team and they are taking us to the woodshed in that category.

They haven't hit a 2 point shot -- and another dribble drive by NM that results in another foul

The blowout may be just beginning--Staten with his 2nd charging foul at the under 8 minute TO means Parker has to be the PG for the rest of the half

****.....game over......we can't compete with 10 FT to none and we now already have like 10 fouls on us...on our home court.
11 points so far????? So much for a better shooting team this year.

So do we get credit for 1 win and 1 loss in this game?

Interesting how some of the experts on this board found so much fault with BG's coaching and then the first comment out of Norm Grevey's mouth on Flyer Feedback was "what a great coaching job by Brian Gregory". Guess who's word I am going to take?

Total turnaround by PW tonight as compared to the Mason game. This is the kind of aggressive, alert game we must have from him.
Congratulations Paul.

When a team is hot, it's often said they can't keep up the pace
with UD the opposite seems to be true--they can keep shooting horrible for a game

What's pitiful is we are getting outrebounded 19-13 by a very bad rebounding team. That's the effort we brought today.

Brian Gregory with the bonehead coaching move of the year....CW doesn't play any under 3 minutes. Do we even have a coach????
Oh wait, the popcorn vendor must have realized CW needed to be in and he goes back in with a minute left.

Could you please remind me what Ken Pomeroy's predictions??? We would finish 2-5 in our last seven games. Are my recollections correct?

Ken Pomeroy's and Sagarin Ratings

Because we have won a number of close games to bad teams, both Pomeroy and Sagarin have us ranked lower in their future predictions. For example, Sagarin has us #48 in ELO Chess which is without considering margin of victory and #126 in Predictor which takes into account margin of victory.
Pomeroy has us as one of the luckiest 10 teams in the country this season. Remember, during the 2008-2009, we were a top 10 lucky team, 2009-2010 we were one of the top 10 unluckiest teams, and now in 2010-2011 we are back to the top 10 lucky.
BG teams have generally been much higher in ELO Chess than Predictor. He is lucky, knows how to win close games, or his style of play lends itself to close wins. With UD, I would generally throw out Predictor and look at ELO Chess as I think BG's end of game management lends itself to close wins.

What difference does it make - the game was over 10 minutes ago.

Josh Parker has certainly helped keep us in this game. With JS catching a second foul, JP has had to come in with the team down. I think this might be his best performance in some time.

Bucky said that that was going to be a key to winning this game--
what's even more impressive than his scoring has been his protection of the ball

38 -- 32 at the half. Let's hope we got the sloppiness out of our system and come out strong to start the second half.

If they start the 2nd half slowly like they are prone to do, it will be hard to dig themselves out of that hole--especially after the ETSU debacle

LOL......what? I watched the game and thought to myself how nice it is to have a guard who can create scoring opportunities for himself.
Maybe you are on the wrong message board. I'm sure the University of Delaware has a board for their basketball team.

I'm just glad we have Josh Parker, Chris Wright, Juwan Staton, Chris Johnson, Paul Williams, Matt Kavenaugh, Devin Searcy, Josh Benson, Brandon Spearman, Devin Oliver, Brian Gregory and Billy Schmidt part of this Flyers team and not Keifaber455 or JCub. There's no quit in THIS team. Just sayin...
This was a quality win against a very good team. New Mexico was better then I was expecting and is much better then George Mason, imo. Good win.
