Every team slides from time to time during the season and looks like UD finally hit the wall. This may be the beginning of a losing streak which every team in the country has so oh well.

15 points in 15 minutes in the 2nd half, same as LaSalle. I thought we wore teams down in the 2nd half?

You do realize the reason this team has won 22 games is because of defense, right? And you do realize London Warren is an excellent defensive pg, right?
Carry on though...I enjoy watching your meltdowns every single game.

Have you watched X play? As hot as they can get, they can go cold too. The game Wednesday can be just as much of a game of runs as it is anything. We need to get some focus for the last three minutes no matter the final score.

Games like this will make me appreciate an NCAA tourney victory much more if we get one. Flaws that have nearly lost us many games in conference have completely hurt today.

No reason to be losing to this team. Charlotte is a very bad team this year. Could say we are looking ahead but still come on this is a game we need to win. This will not look good come selection time. It seems every time we have a chance to be ranked something bad happens.

Fouls and missed free throws. Two things that when combined can kill any team.

Somehow with all the drives and loose balls and physical play, Charlotte has only been whistled 4 times this half. I don't buy it.
Oh, and another missed free throw.

I'm sorry, there is no way that was a foul by RL. Just because he was on his hip, he didn't do anything wrong that I could see.

Wow, this is as bad as I have ever seen a college team shoot free throws.
RL shooting 2. It's like a turnover at this point.

Again, we aren't playing well at all this second half, but that doesn't take anything away from Mack. He's a stud and has a heck of a shot with his back to the basket.

This makes the X game Wed. even bigger. Can't afford to lose two in a row. The Flyers need to regroup, get their energy back, work on rebounding out of the zone (although I despise playing zone, and wish they wouldn't play it as much) practice free throws over and over again, and win Wed.

You know I get so tired of you trashing everything about this team I can't take it anymore. You can play the "I'm just keeping it real" card all you want but you are just like that idiot on the golf course that tells you what you did wrong after you hook on into the woods. Thanks, I know what i did wrong. Thanks, we know the Flyers have issues we know they are not UNC or UConn so you can let up pointing out every little thing they do wrong or hell everything they dont do as well as you think they should. You will bash as wearing "rose colored glasses" and thats fine. I know we have issues I just choose to concentrate on the positive things we do and hope they improve the negative things.

This things over. 44% from the foul line, 19 turnovers and giving up 70+ points to one of the worst teams in the A10.
We can say 21-3 all we want, but this loss pretty much puts us on the bubble and means we have to beat Xavier Wednesday to be back in the discussion for the NCAA tournament.
Man this year feels familiar to last.

We forced Charlotte into three turnovers and six fouls in the second half. Four of those fouls came once the game was pretty much decided. Meanwhile, we give up 13 offensive rebounds and 17 turnovers. The foul shooting aside, that's the story of this game. We played a very poor second half on both ends of the floor.
Time to refocus and beat the Musties.

Ok... Not happy about the loss, but also getting a little miffed listening to the crowd there... chanting 'over rated' and then singing 'goodbye.' We're not even ranked so I'm not getting the 'over rated' chanting. Seems like they think they just won the friggin' national championship!
Once again, we're thought to be ready to break into the top 25 and we suffer another loss. Let's regroup and kick some Muskie a**.

Whoever is going to give up on this team after a bad game can leave. I agree this was a poorly played half, similar to UMass, but it's not the end of the season. 21-3, 7-2. Do you know what that is? Oh yeah, our record, if you all think that is a terrible team, go find a new one, like the UConn women.
I'm still going to be there on Wednesday as loud as ever. Yes, this was a dissapointing second half, but how quickly everyone forgets our #1 2 guard and leader was limited, and our backup-backup point guard that everyone wants to play didn't even make the trip. It is one loss, get over it and keep rooting for the Flyers.

Worst defensive effort all year. To allow 79 points to that team. But with MJ not really playing and CW obviously not up to par, not surprising we lost when you get no effort on D from the others.

Bucky is nuts on the postgame show. Trying to make excuses for this loss saying Charlotte is a good team. At this point in the year, anyone under .500, especially 1-6 in the conference, is not good.

And where am I "drinking the kool-aid" in that post? We stunk in the 2nd half big time today. It's a simple observation you have little good to say usually. (Try to read that sentence to make sure you know I'm saying every post is not negative from you before you try and accuse me of that.)

Can't agree with you there. There are many teams who have had early injuries or young players who are finally coming into their own at this time of the year. Char has had some very close games as of recent losing to RI in overtiime and really needed this game to get them over the hump.
We on the other hand don't seem to have the respect we need for the bottom feeders of the A-10.
Hopefully just a bump in the road.

London
Love watching London and Lowery play D (especially London), get scared every time they touche the ball on O.
Just out of curiosity, I know he's they're great defensively, but when does their offensive liability override the defensive prowess?
I feel like at the PG position we're just stuck between a rock and a hardplace
Just hope the Flyer Faithful can push this team for a victory against that team down south on Wed. or else I'm nervous about our tournament hopes...

Wow that was rough to watch... I'm hoping that this will light a fire under the guys for Wednesday. When you make a living squeeking out wins against the bottom half of the league, you're going to get burned from time to time. Still, 21-3 leading into the Xavier game is ok with me. It was a bad loss, but I have a feeling they are going to give us something to be proud of on Wednesday.

It's too bad he's so terrible. He outscored Chris Wright, outroubounded him, had more assists, more steals, less turnovers and less fouls.
I can't wait to hear what you think of Chris Wright.

BOTH of them looked ahead in my opinion. Now we'll see what both are made of. For UD...I really believe that X is a must win after today. It would be very difficult to leave us out of the dance with wins over X and Marquette and probably 25+ or so regular season wins. However....a loss on Wednesday...hello NIT.

Hopefully just a bump in the road.

I think we can both agree it's a bad loss either way though. Really hope we come out with something great on Wednesday.

I just can't take WHIO
Mike Hartsock & Derrick Dukes make watching games on TV unbearable. Hartsock made several math errors, called a shot by RL a 3 when it was a 2 and never corrected himself, is unable to recognize a blocking foul, and could not comprehend that UD was playing for the last shot at the end of the first half. Dukes speaks in a monotone, maddeningly refers to UD repeatedly as "These Dayton Flyers", said Charlotte gave XU a good game when the score differential was 22 points, and uses "onset" when "outset" is a much better choice. He also mentioned Xavier fans watching the game on TV. Seriously, Derrick? You really think XU fans in Cincy rigged up their rabbit ears in contorted positions to watch a game in which their team is not playing? UD has a terrible media contract with a negligible footprint. You, of all people, should know this.
Adding insult is the bloody scorekeeper who can never keep the correct score on the screen. Hire an intern who can count for crying out loud.
Ok, I feel better. Well, not really.

We are all disappointed, however, there is a lot of basketball left. Let's hope the team learns from today. The road ahead is not going to be an easy one. From here on out we will know what this team is made of.

You must be young Howard; Hartsock has been bad for years, WHIO has never had a competent graphic scorekeeper - ever (even dating back to the 60's). Hartsock is very good at letting us know there's "timeout on the court"...

BAD
This whole f'n game sucked.
First: The Flyers for not bringing it.
Second: The officials for having a crappy game as well. case in point having to review the three point shot where the shooter was inside the old three point line. What we're they watching? certainly not the moving screen that got the kid open in the first place!!!
Third: Mike Hartsock stunk up the play-by-play today. Mike, pay attention to the **** game. You are a veteran sportscaster, there is no excuse for that **** sandwich you served up today.
Fourth: Bobby, get a **** haircut for christ sakes. You look like an alter boy from the 1970's.
And lastly, Myself. I was not as prepared for this game as I should of been. Ran out of beer with 10 minutes to go and was not wearing my traditional flyers garb. Not even my lucky hat.

Man that was hard to watch. This is the worst half court team in the nation. Actually charlotte was pretty bad too but they seemed to hit every turn around they had. Plus when you dunk every other possessio your fg% is going to be great. 21-3 is still good but I just know the pundits were looking for a reason to keep us out with our SOS. I think they have to beat X at least once or run the finish with only two more losses both being to X. Few things from today:
1. Chris Wright played his worst game yet in front the NBA scouts. He has to learn to turn and shoot instead of Dribble drive every time. We all bash Kurt for putting it on the floor all th time but Wright has yet to show any development from 5-10 feet away. Team are learning how to harness him.
2. Our point guards have no idea how to stop another teams momentum. Sometimes the best possession is a long one to tire out the crowd and team.
3. Our free throw bug is back and it hurts
4. I didn't realize the NCAA was allowing teams to pull themselves up on the rim after dunks and to slap the glass now without getting technicals.
5. Why did Mickey keep coming out after hitting shots?
6 For such a good defensive team that we are supposed to be, doesnt it seem like alot of team have their best shooting of the year against us?
7. Still 21-3 and you never know what happens at the arena. A win wednesday would go a long way for this team. They are young and need a boost the last few have been ugly.

How so? Was his day worse than Wright's? London had better stats across the board. It'd be nice if someone actually brought some facts to the table once in a while.

Excuses are like Butts...Everyone has one, and they stink.
(I learned that from my H.S. baseball coach and it fits today's game)
With our "depth" we should've been able to overcome MJ's sickness. And to even discuss ST as a reason for the loss is ridiculous. He's played in 1 of the last 3 games I think.

Poor defense doesn't show up in the box score unfortunately. He was consistently beat to the basket. Along with three tournovers, he missed 2 or 3 layups. Unfortunately his replacement, rob lowery played no better, going 1/5 from the charity stripe.

My baseball coach said the same thing all the time. Good Points. Sometimes we need to realize that we are still 21-3 and one win against x would solidfy alot. The scary part is we all know tghis team inside and out but the national folks and the committee folks don't. Being a non Big 6 school they look at the last 10 games over much of anything else. This is a game that could haunt this team but its over andf you have to move on. I will be there WED and praying for a win

Wow, we definitely played our best game of the year today. A couple of guys really stepped it up. I'm not sure what you guys think about the officiating, but I thought it was GREAT! I was really nervous that the foul descrepency would catch up to us, because the refs would want to make it look even.
I think you guys have a much better chance of beating Xavier after losing this game. You'll be a lot more hungry now. I'll be rooting for you guys.

Pretty painful to watch - they brought their "A" game and we brought our "F" game - I think anybody would have had a hard time beating them today, and we would have had a hard time beating anybody today. Sometimes that happens in sports.
Sad thing is that now we know we have an "F" game in us - great teams go thru the whole year with nothing lower than a "C". (Our "C" game would beat their "A" game.)
We are not a great team. A fun team to follow, a very good team, but not great.
Let's just keep enjoying the roller coaster - there will be some great wins down the stretch along with some frustration.
By the way, I didn't think WHIO did a bad job today - cameras or announcers.
Final comment - CW did not look healthy - CJ was great in the first half but how could he not take even one shot in the second?
Let's hope our pg tandem, Heckle & Jeckle have a better game on Wednesday!

Quit bashing the modern broadcast team. You haven't been around long enough to compare them to their predecessors. I remember when Tom Hamlin said, "There goes Gordy Hatton, all alone with two men on him...", followed by Lou Hinchman (aka Kermit the Frog) bellowing, "That's right, Tom..." They sure could paint a picture on the radio for us to follow. Ah yes, back in the days when UD went "right to left on the radio dial".

What went right at game today
I asked this in another thread, but don't know if it is being viewed. Please help!
Lets look at what went right at the Charlotte Game. I may need some help here.
1. Rebounding (offensive & defensive)
2. Free Throws
3. Turn Overs
4. Boxing Out
5. FG%
6. 3-pt %
7. Driving lay-ups
8. Zone D
9. Man to Man D
10. Substitutions
11. Coaching
Can someone help me with what went right at the game today for UD?

I counted 3 missed layups, and an offensive possession where there was not a defender within 12 feet and he wildly drove to the basket and fired up a wild shot.
Just miserable.

Ironic
3 pt % went well for us. Ironically when we lost to UMASS our 3 pt shooting also went well. When our perimeter shots start falling on the road we lose our defensive identity.
UMASS
3-Pt. FG% 1st Half: 4-6 66.7% 2nd Half: 4-12 33.3% Game: 44.4%
CHARLOTTE
3-Pt. FG% 1st Half: 4-7 57.1% 2nd Half: 3-6 50.0% Game: 53.8%
Several have pointed out what a poor perimeter shooting team we are, but in our two A10 losses - it was actually quite the opposite.
I've heard Gregory say it more than once this year - This team needs to remember what makes them successful: defense and rebounding.

I wasn't able to see Sunday's game, but based on the box score in today's paper, I can say that only (5) & (6) definitely went well for our Flyers on Sunday, and that (1), (2), (3), (4), (8), & (9) definitely did not. To comment on (7), (10), & (11), I'd have had to see the game.
With this team, though, if we're not winning (1), (4), (8), & (9), we're not winning the game.

Howard, you are dead wrong in my opinion. First of all, I know many Xavier fans who live in Dayton. You are following the Dayton Flyers from Cincinnati, is it beyond the realm of possibility that their are Xavier fans who live in Dayton??? So there were plenty of Xavier fans watching the game.
Second, I think Dukes does an excellent job evaluating the game. He does a good job explaining what is effective and isnt effective. And he OBVIOUSLY knows his stuff and you can tell he was an intelligent basketball player. As a former PG, he seems extra hard on our PGs, but also points out the subtle things they do well that the untrained eye might not notice. Maybe he is monotone, but I think he is an excellent color commentator overall.
