I'm not saying he should come to UD but Coach Price at Sinclair has a nice 6'7" kid. Watched them play a couple times this year. LiDonta Gentry has a nice game, moves well, passes well, shot the 3 pretty well at 39% and 83% ft's.

Never heard of this Hicks-Gentry, but if you told me that was a country music group, I'd have believed you for sure.

We have five scholarships to give. Four if we pocket one! No matter who we recruit free throw percentage should be an important criteria. Damon Goodwin shot almost 90% for his career at UD and Scoochie was around 80% but towards the end of games he was money in the bank!
I remember Shawnta Rogers from George Washington (1996-99) would gives opponents fits because the ball would consistently be in his hands at the end of games when they had a lead and he would make every free throw!
J.J. Redick who played at Duke from 2003-06 was the best I've seen! For his career he made 662 out of 726 attempts for 91%.
Last Thursday when Kentucky lost to Kansas St. 61-58 they shot 62.2% (23 of 37) and P.J. Washington made 8 of 20 for 40%! Many of those misses came at the end with the game on the line!
My son is a Kentucky grad and I felt his pain. Plus I would have liked to see them play Loyola Chicago in the elite eight game. As my wife and I were watching the end of the game she asked why college players miss so many free throws when nobody is even guarding them! I told her that these days with instant gratification players would rather practice dunks than free throws because they don't want to put in the effort. She said that it seemed UD was better shooting free throws this past season under Anthony Grant than they were in years past with Archie Miller.
We need to continue this upward trend and the only way to do it is to recruit shooters with good techniques and then practice, practice, practice!

Here's a name to watch out for, MaCio Teague at UNC Asheville. Their coach just left for Middle Tennessee St.
He's a 6'3 sophomore guard out of Walnut Hills HS in Cincinnati. Scored over 1000 points in 2 season at UNCA and put 16.7ppg, 4.4 boards shooting 42.5% from 3 last season
http://www.espn.com/mens-college-bas...6/macio-teague
He's already on the NBA radar

After watching his you tube videos from Dartmouth I think he would look good in a Flyer uniform! Is not shy about taking the ball to the basket and finishing.

Kid is from Lake Forest, IL. All State as a Sr. in HS. Watched him play several times and would take him as a Flyer. Plays with a chip on his shoulder (even though he grew up on the North Shore of Chicago) and plays hard as hell.

James Banks, the 6-foot-10 center from the University of Texas, will transfer, the school announced Wednesday in a press release.
As a sophomore, Banks averaged 1.6 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 0.8 blocks per game, in only three games this season. After averaging 12.4 minutes per game as a freshman, Banks’ playing time decreased this season, only averaging 6.8 minutes per game.

Yeah, I read this article earlier this afternoon on Texas SB Nation site.
https://www.burntorangenation.com/20...ll-shaka-smart
Gotta wonder how Shaka is feeling over there... FBI investigation involving one of their players, several guys transferring, their fans seemed to dislike Dylan Osetkowski, he’s had two top-level one-and-dones at the center position the last two years, and they were terrible last year, and didn’t make it out of the first round this year. Obviously, they had the awful news with Jones battling leukemia, and man, you have to feel for the team dealing with that. But they didn’t pay him big bucks to finish 10 games under .500 and not make it to the second round of the tournament.

Don’t mean to hijack this thread, but it’s a tough, tough business for a “high major” coach... you gotta get really good players, but if you’re not getting enough of the “best of the best” then you could be in trouble. You have to find the right mix of very good, solid, and awesome players to be able to consistently compete, especially these days with more movement, the one-and-done guys, etc.
Jarret Allen was really good. He had been really solid for the Nets and he’s still really young. Mo Bamba has oodles of talent, and will be a surefire lottery pick. Personally, I think he needs a LOT of work; looked like he kind of just hangs around the hoop hoping for a pass or a rebound and doesn’t really work for position like he will need to. Anyway, at a place like Texas, you pretty much have to land that kind of recruit. But you have to do it every single year, and develop other guys, and keep the rest of the team happy. Otherwise, you get a couple one and done centers with a grand total of one NCAA game in two years (0-1), and you didn’t develop a 4-Star, top-50ish center, and he leaves before you can really reap the benefits.
It’s a tough business, but hey, that’s what he asked for. Seat has to be getting hot in Austin, and if it helps UD, I’m okay with that. Shaka had it rolling at VCU, his recruiting class was sick the year he left, and VCU felt the pain of losing that class this year.
Seems there is a lot of exodus from the Big 12, for whatever that’s worth. Several guys from Texas, several from Oklahoma, Ok State...
Anyway, sure seems like a good time to have five open scholarships!

I think you nail on the head about Banks and having the 1 & dones and him getting pushed out.
If you're going to play in the Big 12 or P5 there are no projects. Kids going there especially top 100 want minutes early. No one is going to Texas to sit on the bench.
It's tough to keep guys happy at that level or get everyone the minutes/playing time they think they deserve. I think that's why you see so many transfers year in and out with those leagues.

You’re probably right. I’m guessing Oklahoma’s other guards were not all that excited to see Trae Young basically take any shot ever from anywhere while they watched (or waited on the bench for their “chance” to give him a breather). He dominated the ball, dominated the media coverage, started out great but then was pretty bad down the stretch and they flamed out in the NCAA first round, losing to some mid major school whose coach had 1 1/2 feet out the door for the last month or so. So he goes pro, but they think “the heck with this, I’m not doing this again next year sitting behind some other freshman hotshot.”
The “concern” with taking a guy like that is that he may not be happy with playing time at your school, either. Gotta be up front with a guy and lay things out honestly.
It depends on the fit of course, but I’d expect us to maybe only take one transfer this year. Possibly two if it is a guy like Banks (he had a Georgetown offer out of high school so coach Solomon probably knows him a bit from then). We need guys who can play next year, but if a guy is talented enough, we can probably justify taking two sit-out guys and three guys who can play right away.

I think a lot of those guys just want the chance. Banks has played with two lottery picks and needs the opportunity. Nothing is given to him here but it's likely he's not gonna have beat the next Greg Oden to get minutes if he comes here.
At some level I think these transfers know that this is it to prove what they can basketball wise on the college level.
I'd say take two sit out transfers because I don't think any other avenue of talent acquisition is going to get us players as talented as Dayton can get with sit outs. You get another JUCO or maybe a grad transfer or 2 depth and we should be set depth wise.

Please consider posting players height when speaking about transfers.
Hearing about 25 6 foot 3 guys or 5 "11 guards isn't rocking my world. Would get more piqued if we knew more is all.
We don't need 3 more of the SAME type of player (SG /SF specifically).

Flyer 86: I have the exact same thoughts. I want to hear about three guys 6’10/ 240+ or bigger that can really play and are transfers that have eligibility next year.

Redshirt Junior Zach Hankins 6'10 230 Center. Plays for the Division 2 national champion Ferris State and was the D2 national player of the year.
Averaged 15.1 points, 9.9 rebounds & 3.3 blocks per game. 21 double-doubles
The back-to-back All-American, an environment biology major at Ferris State, wants to pursue a professional basketball career and that may lead him elsewhere next season. On Friday, Hankins said "no comment" when asked about next season with the team.
"Future's very open," he said.

6:19 PM - 29 Mar 2018 Verbal Commits announced Albany G David Nichols (JR) is leaving the program.
Nichols, the 6"0" 180 lb. point guard who starts alongside Joe Cremo averaged 15, 3.5 and 4 this past season.
I feel sorry for Will Brown, Albany's coach, because he has to replace both his talented starting guards!
Can you imagine in 2005 if Brian Gregory not only had to replace Trent Meacham at the last minute but Brian Roberts as well!

Florida Gulf Coast PG Zach Johnson (RS JR) has received permission to contact other schools. Grad transfer with 1 year of eligibility.
Interesting. Averaged 16 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists per game. Good shooter. Hit 39% from three. Former Florida Gulf Coast star Brett Comer could be an asset in recruiting here.

From Miami and I believe his high school Norland plays/played Senior where AG went.
He gets 2 steals a game too. I remember during the ASun title game he was noted as one of the best defenders in the conference. FGCU got down big in the first half and Zach nearly willed them back into the game
Write from a Florida Gator site about him

I am a bit disappointed that Dayton isn’t in the mix for Moyer. There’s plenty of fish in the sea at this stage in the game so it’s not the end of the world I realize but it would have been encouraging to see Dayton making a run at a big with a ton of potential from just up the road. So I would be interested to know if our staff made an effort... Anyone know if Dayton expressed interest or made contact?

Cool. One thing I was not aware of was that former flyer, Ralph Hill, is Moyer's cousin, and someone he describes as "like a big brother."
http://www.syracuse.com/orangebasket...near_home.html
So obviously, being an hour away with family playing at Dayton, you know he's been to campus, been in the arena as both a player and spectator, etc. And Miller recruited him.
So he knows what Dayton is all about, and if it's not what he's looking for, then that's all well and good. Perhaps, if Ralph Hill's Dayton career turned out a bit better, he'd have a different opinion, but who knows... Regardless, I'm glad to know Grant's staff reached out.

So this kid from Youngstown State looks pretty good. Nice size for a kid who can play guard or forward at 6'6" and he does literally everything on the court - defend, score, pass, rebound. Seems like he could be a really nice fit.

If we're going to be running zone more often, nice to have a 6'6 guy with some long arms at the top of it.
He good games offensively against Butler, Depaul, Wright St and Northern Kentucky. Those were the better teams on his schedule other than Indiana.
He had a late season swoon or else his shooting % would be even higher. I think Cooke came in as a 30% 3pt shooter and this guys already at 35%.
I know he led the Horizon league in steals but I'd curious to know more about his defensive capabilities.

Arkansas' Darious Hall and C.J. Jones will both transfer, per release.
Jones is a 6'5 sophomore guard who had some very productive games off of the bench for the Razorbacks. From Birmingham, Alabama.
Hall is a 6'6 freshman forward from Little Rock. Looks like he showed some promise

Redshirted at Findlay this year...hmmm.
Friends with Landers and in town practicing. Needed a t-shirt so he borrowed one from TL.
Or he did a poor job of keeping his transferring to Dayton a secret.

Per Evan Daniels, 247 Sports 21 hr ago on 4/4/18 USF's Troy Holston has a release and will graduate in May, be eligible right way & have two years of eligibility. Holston averaged 9.7 PPG during the 2016-2017 season. Sat out this past season with an injury.
I like this kid! He is 23 years old and a 6'4" 200lb SG who is an excellent 3 point shooter. I will give you his background story and he has had nothing but bad luck and his mom says his dream has always been to play at the next level.
From Queens, NY he and his mom moved to Tampa, FL when he was in the 8th grade. He was a 6'4" 170lb SG at Oldsmar Christian High School in Tampa and averaged 23 PPG as a Senior and was listed 3 stars by Scout, Rivals and ESPN. He was recruited by USF, Miami, Alabama, Kansas St., Marquette, Memphis, Murray St. and Utah St. In the 2014-15 season he averaged 8 PPG as a freshman and started 19 games. The bad luck started in the summer of 2015. He suffered a torn ACL during individual workouts in July and was granted a medical hardship waiver by the NCAA. He missed the entire 2015-16 season, transformed his body and gained 30 lbs. I don't know what the nature of his injury was this past season but I'm sure AG could contact Brian Gregory and get the real facts on his health.
I think this kid would be a good get or at the very least worth a consideration! I watched his you tube videos and was impressed!

You'd have to think we stand a chance with Johnson. He was a teammate of Brett Comer on the 2013 Dunk City team. Here's hoping Comer's got some real pull.

I saw a couple articles that said he’s a sit one play one “unless he was granted a hardship waiver” but I hadn’t really seen any argument as to why that would be granted.

Strangely enough his stats and advanced stats get better against quality competition
http://barttorvik.com/playerstat.php...=Colorado%20St.
So barttorvik.com is kenpom like advanced stats site some of the ESPN guys on twitter I saw touting.
So they use a statistic called porpagatu to rank players. explanation below
http://www.bigtengeeks.com/new-stat-porpagatu/
Out of the guys I've seen Dayton linked to, they rank them on the transfer market
16. Zach Johnson
22. Prentis Nixon
32. James Scott
41. Braun Hartfield

seems like they used to do the family illness but that doesn't seem to be a thing anymore. I guess loading up this summer semester is out of the possibility.
Sit one play one isn't efficient scholarship usage but we've got the scholarships open now and if the staff thinks he's gonna be a player
I kinda thought that Ryan Welage from San Jose St might be their guy for a sit one play one since he's a front court guy

Everyone in the Mountain West is well aware of the fire hazard that Nixon can become as he has proven dangerous throughout an injury-plagued season.
Not only is the offense from Nixon prolific, but his presence on the defensive end will be needed. It seems as if every charge called on opponents comes from Nixon sacrificing his body for it. He averages almost one charge taken a game, something he believes comes from his ability to read the body language of the opponent and get in their path.

seems like he had ankle injury

How many did he make?
Edit: I just checked. He made 7 - 43.75%. I'll take it, but he was only 9/24 for the game - only 2/8 on 2 pointers. Had 27 points and 10 rebounds.

I have a love/hate relationship with this thread. Love hearing of all the good talent looking to transfer.
Hate the 99+ rejections that come with it one at a time over the next few months.

6’5” wing, sounds like he’d be a very nice add. Dad played at St. John’s I believe. He’s originally from New Jersey. Sit one, play two.

So you wouldn't take a kid who averaged 17 PPG vs. major comp:
--17 at Florida State
--21 at Washington
--19 at Texas Tech
Obviously some major college coaches disagree with you:
--Scott has visited St. John's
--Scott will visit Va Tech
Scott is also considering Clemson, Nevada, Arizona, Maryland and Georgetown.

Yeah, and we should probably add James Madison to that list. A guy from James Madison could never help this team and then go on to play in the NBA.
Isaac Vann had a nice year for VCU and he transferred from Maine. Cane Broome put in some good minutes for the Bearcats this year. he transferred from Sacred Heart.
Maybe he can help and maybe he can't. But just because he played at a small school it doesn't mean he couldn't help us.

He averaged 17 ppg, which was more than Darrell Davis did last year. Virginia Tech, Maryland, UConn, Temple, Nevada, Arizona, Georgetown, Clemson, and others have shown interest in him. He had offers from St. Bona, LaSalle, Vermont, and several other schools out of high school.
Maybe you’re unfamiliar with how college basketball works. Guys sometimes go to lower level schools, get a lot better, and then transfer up. Sometimes freshmen who aren’t very good actually improve and are better players by the time they graduate!
If you don’t think a 6’5” wing with ACC and Big Ten interest who averaged 17 ppg would be a good get, I wonder who would be a good get.

Hey UDScott: Some of these kids' games can blow up in college with a higher level of physical training and coaching. I wouldn't discount any D-1 player, no matter what the program. As a matter of fact, I wouldn't discount some D-2 players. There have been some very good players from smaller schools come into the arena - starter caliber for the Flyers.

Case in point...Ohio Dominican University (D-2) brought a point guard into the arena this past season - Shemar Waugh...we had no one who could defend his dribble penetration. He is most definitely a D-1 caliber player. He probably was overlooked because he was only 5'9" and 145 pounds as a Freshman. The kid is a really nice player.

There is something to be said for blending a solid transfer with a group of players with game experience. Last season Loyola of Chicago of the Missouri Valley Conference went 18-14 overall and a lowly 8-10 in conference. They added guard Marques Townes a transfer who averaged 11.5 points and 3.9 rebounds as a sophomore at Fairleigh Dickinson and this season went 32-6 with a trip to the Final 4! Granted they also added Cameron Krutwig a 6'9" 260 lb. freshman who developed faster than expected at center.
James Scott may not make such a dramatic difference for the Flyers but I agree he would be a welcome addition.

Villanova just won a national title starting a transfer from the joke of a basketball program that is Fordham University.

And eggsavier was happy to get transfers from powerhouses (D2) Ferris State and Columbia so far this offseason.
Torrey Craig from USC Upstate has played 37 games for the Denver Nuggets this year. Dame Lillard went to Weber State. The Hawks have a guy from Alabama-Huntsville, and another from Southeast Missouri State.
