Flyer fans and Christi Hester Mack
I know the Flyer Faithful will be all positive Sat night when Christi is inducted into the UD Athletic HOF. Obviously, she had nothing to do with the Mack/Coffee event. I know the FF will be 110% positive when they welcome she and her family.
Go Flyers!

Chris Mack sure knows how to set his wife up well before her big day with his idiot comments about the A-10.
Anyway, I agree and hope everyone is positive.

I hope everyone gives Christi a big round of applause for 2 reasons:
1. For her excellent results as a student athlete at UD.
2. You have to admire a woman who has put up and live with Chris Mack every day!

Per Archs article in this mornings DDN, Christi's hubby and daughters will watch the game/festivities in an upper (private) area of the Arena and Christi will be introduced as Christi Hester in an effort to keep the peace. Probably a good move by the UD leadership considering what happened last time and especially after Mack's recent comments.

Chrissy is part of in a long rich tradition of good girls who fall for jerks. We have all seen it many times. I loath Mack and think he is a sorry excuse for a human being.

I expect nothing but class during her introduction...and quite frankly I'm assuming most on this board would agree.
It's also time for Arch to let go of last year's incident. Christi herself said she hasn't even thought of it as her big day approaches. Arch is good, very good. But when there's a little bit of drama surrounding UD, it takes him much longer to let it go than it does for those involved.
Move on, Tom! (since you've admitted to reading these message boards)

We sat next to her at a UD game, I had no idea who she was at that time. We had a great conversation, she was a very nice person and very knowledgeable of basketball. I asked how she knew so much and she told me she played for UD and was a coach at X. Don't like her husband, but I don't know him either. She is a classy person and deserving of out Flyer support.

Chris Mack just can't be as big a sleaze ball that we all think he is. His countenance seems to support that he is... He comes across like nothing ever happened. If the guy would just publicly apologize to all of Flyerland, once and for all, he would have half a chance of getting that whole incident behind him. But until he does that, everyone will be left to decide for themselves....

I still think Mack is a jerk, but he did apologize to Coffee (even sent a letter), transferred from Evansville and away from Crews, and has publically admitted he was wrong. Wes Coffee has been quoted as forgiving him and so should we. With that said, I still dislike him and his _avier team. Strange as it seems, I've always disliked _avier, but I liked several of their previous coaches (Gillen, Prosser, and Matta).

I have heard of the first two, but have never seen, nor been aware of any public apology, especially to the Flyer Faithful....
With all the recent "issues" with fans getting tooo involved, and players going into the stands (Smart), I specifically remember that night ...... and thinking how close the fans were to going after him. If he had not been immediately ejected after the second occurrence, I think there would have been a BIG problem with the fans....... Any body else remembering it that way? Is my memory correct?

Mack has done plenty of things as coach of _avier for me to despise him. I was there the night of the Coffee in the face incident. It was really ugly and it could have gotten a lot worse. The Dayton team showed a lot of class and restraint that evening. Best thing we did was put it to Evansville on the floor and beat them by more than 20 points that night. Maybe I'm in the minority, but I honestly believe Mack truly regrets the incident and I'm ready to move on from that episode which was over 20 years ago. Oh, I'm also for forgiving Pete Rose and putting him in the HOF too. Mack's handling of all the _avier thuggery over the past few years is what really bothers me.

Exactly. But a lot of people are like Dayton as whole....will not change. Bringing up incidents from over 20 years ago with no sense of reality. As stated above, he apologized, wrote a letter to Coffee and transferred basically because his disagreement with the coach's philosophy about everything.
Look, I hate Xavier, but Mack is not a bad guy at all. I like him--if you got to know anything about him, he's as down to earth as any drinking buddy you could have. Has a couple daughters, big family guy.
Let it f'n go

I have no doubt that Mack felt bad. Still the most unsportsmanlike play I have ever witnessed in 40+ years of watching basketball.
He does seem to have a real problem with situational awareness (his A-10 comments this week, sending Holloway and Lyons to the gangsta presser)

What it is, is "desperation", as in X may miss the NCAA 2 years in a row for the first time since David West was a freshman and the late (and honorable) Skip Prosser was the coach.

Based on Mack's apology to Coffee and then transferring to another school, I don't have a problem with that scenario.
What I do have a problem with is his either promoting or allowing the gangsta style b'ball that we have seen in the A-10. Unacceptable....and I still dislike him. I have noticed this year that when the X players play their gangsta style game, they are getting technical fouls.

I have a lot of respect for Wes Coffee. I played with and against him after he returned from Europe. He still played hard and knew the game was meant to be played hard. I never saw him complain on the court.
Wes is a straight up guy. His acceptance of the apology from Mack weighs a lot for me. If he can move on, I think others can too.

I started the thread back in January before the first SLU game that we should run a play that ends up getting a ball in Crews face. I have no issue with Mack and that incident. He has apologizes to Coffee and he even transferred from Evansville partly because of that incident.
Crews is another story...He'll get his when SLU runs him out of town in 3-5 years.

I'm thinking 3-5 years is generous. I'll bet they'll struggle to get to .500 next year and we'll start seeing the real Jim Crews.

I walked within inches of Chris Mack in the concourse on my way to my seats. He is even creepier up close.
Jim Crews is also a dirt bag. It will be fun watching him run SLU into the ground.

Sorry but how does posters opinions on this message board have anything to do with UD's image. As far as I know everyone has an opinion and has never had an effect on a schools image. Now the gangster mentality by the players; players on court and off court behaviors; coaches on court and off court behaviors are another matter.
While I agree we should concentrate more on the success of this season and support the team, but my opinion in my posts has no direct effect on UD's image. It might effect ones opinion of UD fans base but that is separate from the U.
Take X musketeer madness and their rants about the UDump, the watermelon posts a few years back etc while showing poor on the fans had no effect on X the university. In fact even the gangster mentality didn't even effect X getting an invite to the NBE.

Agree to Disagree with you here Avid: Anyone can access this site at any time very much like me going to the A-10 Forum and observe the musings of "Muddy Waters". From my vantage point his past history was an embarrassment because of the nature of his content and the big UD logo next to his name. On occasions there is a lot of whining, complaining and defamation of others on UD Pride, which in fact discredits those who are Flyers or Flyer fans.
"Eye for an eye, will only make you blind"! By paying attention to the "gangsters" you only give them the satisfaction that you care what they say. Personally I've always felt as if we should simply forget about them, why give them any recognition what so ever??? In all honesty though, I really get a kick out of some of the photos posted about X players.

HOF comments:
Christi received well
Wish all inductees would say a word or 2 at Keith W did
Wish they would have announced the dozen or so HOFers standing at the
other end of the floor.
All in all - a great night.

Agree, but again it does not affect the U's image, only the image of some fans who or who are not actually fans of the school they have a logo of. Many a troll uses the logo of a school to give that school fan base a bad image. All these posters are anonymous therefore no one knows if they are turly fans of that school or not.
I visit several boards of A-10 schools and to a T they all have trolls who claim to be fans of that school but many posters question if they are fans or someone from another school. Since they are anonymous no one should give real credence to those posters.
There are many more posters who represent the U well; do they build up the image of the U; no because again they are anonymous and just fans giving opinions. If that were the case why would the U need to make promos etc just let positive posters build up the U's reputation etc.
Does anyone really know if Muddy Waters for example is a real UD flyer fan, or a trol from another school who would like nothing more than to embarrass the flyer fan base. And it is only the flyer fan base that this affects, not the U.

I know for a fact That "Muddy Waters" is indeed a very rabid UD fan...a little too rabid for some people's taste, especially the X fans who used to frequent the A-10 MB. But a Flyer fan nonetheless.

I think UD's image will suffer if it goes down hill academically. It does suffer when there are beer riots in The Ghetto. A winning basketball team helps the U's image, but if the players get in trouble off the court it suffers. Fans talking smack about other teams' coaches are not relevant to it at all.
Mack, Crews, and folks like that are public figures and are more than fair game to be dissed on an internet chat board.

If he had not been immediately ejected after the second occurrence, I think there would have been a BIG problem with the fans....... Any body else remembering it that way? Is my memory correct?

You're memory was incorrect. Mack refused to do it the second time, so Crews had Scott Schreffler take the ball out and do it. I don't remember if anyone got tossed, but it was Schreffler if anyone.

Actually, IIRC, Schreffler did the first one and Mack did the second one, and it was after the second one that all he!! nearly broke loose.

At the end of the day, folks need to let this Chris Mack thing go. Why someone would voluntarily allow their emotions to be held hostage by Chris Mack after 25 years is beyond me. If there's anyone to be angry with, its Jim Crews. He's the one that "ordered the hit". Mack, like most players, would do just about anything their coach said. Mack obviously didnt get along with Crews because he transferred to Xavier to find a fresh start.
Do I like Chris Mack? I dont know. Can't say I like him, but I don't dislike him. I have far more important people in my life to take the time to dislike. I like Christi Hester I know that. Her marriage license does not say "Xavier" on it, but her college diploma sure says "Dayton" on it. That's all I need.
Its kind of like Sean Miller. As Archie said when he first took the job here, "my brother is not such a bad guy."
I've got too many things inside UD's own beltline to keep me pre-occupied with concern than to worry about UD spouses and 10 seconds of basketball that occurred 25yrs ago. We're not talking Kermit Washington haymaking Rudy Tomjanovich here.
Besides, Mack and Coffee and everyone involved kissed and made up. Whats left? A pubic confession before a priest on WCPO's 11pm news?
And to those students that heckled Hester to tears: what shameful, despicable people you are. She should have walked over and delivered her own haymaker.

Putting a bow on it...
...
http://www.basketballforum.com/atlan...fee-crews.html
- Schreffler threw the first ball at Coffee, Mack the 2nd
- Crews said both were "following orders"
- Mack was only player to try to shake hands post-game and even apologized through a DDN reporter
- If you need to keep hatin' suggest you direct your venom at Crews

As long as Chris Mack is the head coach at Xavier, I will despise him. After that, I don't care.
Whoever follows Mack as Xavier's head coach will be despised. It goes with the job.

saw on the A10 board, they showed Christi Mack on TV during the Big East tournament, apparently she was hit by a Drunk Driver the other day, her girls are OK, while she escaped with just a few broken bones (thankfully nothing more).

Everytime he speaks it just reminds me how much I dislike the guy, arrogant, and I was at that game and will never forgive him or X.
